When I first got my Eury she couldn't walk more than a block or two without getting tired. Now, at nearly 4 months, she can walk almost a mile before she sits her little butt down and whimpers at me to get my attention that she wants to be carried. LOL :aimeeyork Chelle |
I walk my simon who is about 6.5 pounds at our lakehouse for approx 2 miles...he seems fine the whole way but when we get inside he is pooped. I also increase his food a bit since we have been taking two walks a day. |
We started walking Sandy for about 10mins when he's 4 months old. Now he's almost 11 months old, he looks like he can go on and walk forever! We walk him everyday. I'm always the one who is tired but when we're almost in front of our door, Sandy turns and tries to run away. Sometimes, if he's tired, he'll wait for me to open the door and enters the house without me telling him 'Enough Sandy! Time to go home!' *lol* |
I walk Piper 3 miles everyday and she never gets tired. She probably could very easily walk another 3 but her mommy is the one who tires out first. |
Duke typically gets an hour or so of walking time and he's not really tired, there have been times when he would just slow down so we would take a break. I have recently jog/run with him too, that def get all the energy out quicker. But regardless of how far we walk, mommy is always the one getting tired first. they have so much energy :) |
These are all so helpful! My baby isn't quite 4 months yet and I don't want to take him on walks until he's had all his shots....I can't wait though! :p |
We got Cody when he was 12 weeks old and I started walking every day with him. At first he would tire and sit down to wait for me to pick him up. Now at 6 months old, we walk (and run a couple of short sprints) about 2 miles each day. I'm sure it's comical to anyone seeing us run -- as soon as I say "run" he takes off at full speed - practically dragging me along. |
Jackson can walk foreeevvverrr. lol. Well not literally but sometimes it seems like it. I notice him start to get tired after 3-4 miles sometimes but it depends on the weather. If it's really hot, he tires faster, but if it's not he can go on for probably 6 miles if I let him. |
Ringo can walk for hours and miles; Lucy ~ not so much. Even though we wait until evening; it is still very humid. She can go about a mile and a half - but I try to carry her part of the way so she doesn't get too tired or dehydrated. We had some prior issues on long walks where she would just sink to the ground and her vet cautioned me that she simply is not capable of walking the distance that Ringo is. She dehydrates easily and has LP in both knees so we must be careful. I know when she is tired and that is when she lets me carry her without struggling to be let down. I never thought I would be a stroller person - but am thinking about getting her a stroller so she can keep up with Ringo without wearing herself out. |
Mine can go for hours depending on hot hot it is but he is a bigger yorkie my small ones don't even like to walk to the corner without being picked up |
This thread is 3 years old :p Couver can walk forever as well. I just keep my eye on him if I notice him tiring and make sure he has plenty of water. I also try to avoid really hot days so he does not get too hot. When he does tire out, I carry him :) |
Gatsby is 6 pounds and he can walk nearly 4 miles or 2 hours before i see him get tired i do not let him walk but half that because when it gets hot he dose not seem to want water so would rather be safe |
Bandit's 4.5 pounds and Nala's almost 5.5 pounds and they both go around the 4 miles circle by our house no problem as long as it's not hot. When Nala was a puppy and Bandit and I would walk the circle with her she couldn't even do a block at a time without getting tired, but now she could probably do the circle twice!!! |
sorry for the double post |
I have a question my vet said to wait to walk them until 10 days after their last shots. I only have one at that stage at this point my second pup received her rabies shot yesterday and it is her last for a while. My tiny one was sick and couldn't get her shot yesterday we have to wait a few weeks she has 2 more sets to get so she will ride in the stroller when I can walk the others. My vet also said that they shouldn't be out in public places or other dogs until their shots are completed has anyone else heard that from their vet?:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
