By the way, I use cat collars so that if it gets caught onto something, it'll snap open and the bells are always useful because I know whether he's up to no good or not. |
thank you everyone for your help! |

My little man wears his collar for the most part all the time except at night when we go to sleep. If I am going for a good walk or to the pet store, I will put his harness on him but if im just walking out to the mailbox with him...I will just leave his collar on. His rabies and ID tags are on his collar cause they dont really work well with a harness. I am looking into microchipping him as well!! |
Hi Pet ID Tags | Personalized Dog Tag - Lifetime Guarantee - Up to 40% Discount got awesome link here where I bought my pet dog accessories. |
Embroidered (my phone #, dogs name) break away cat collars for their tags, harness for walks.... |
I collar is not unsafe unless its to lose or to tight and if you are using a leash with it. |
Oh yeah, we use the collar for tags. Gracie is chipped but she was such an escape artiest as a puppy that I put ID tags on her for just in case. She also has a bell on her collar because she has disappeared in the house a couple of times and it helps me to locate her. We use the harness when using a leash. Some prefer to use a break away cat collar on their dogs. It just depends on what type of area you pets spends it's time in. |
Mine wear collars but the collars are loose with their tags. They are walked and tied out (with supervision only) on harnesses. |

Hey Thanks!!! Just ordered a beautiful embroidered breakaway collar for Brew. Full name and phone number fit! ships to Canada for $20 total. DONE!!!!:D :thumbs up I have a few collars and tags already, but he doesn't like the noise of the tags binging against his water dish, so i didn't like to have him always wearing it. also i've been looking for a good breakaway to try for safety reasons. perfect! you may have just helped to save my doggies life one day! :cheer: :dogwalk: |
I didn't do a collar because I figured Maggie would be annoyed by the noise. How would you like to jingle very time you moved--is how I looked at it. Also, I thought it would make her hair get matted up under it. I will look at the tags and collars you guys have suggested because I know it would help her get home if she got out. One good think about walking her daily is that a lot of the neighbors WOULD recognize her if she got out. I still can't get over the number of people who have fenced yards and I have NEVER seen the dog on a walk. I think they need a walk even if they do have a yard to run in. Also, Maggie got her chip at the shelter. It was registered with HomeAgain at the time. The first year was included. I didn't renew it because I don't really understand why I need to. Isn't the info on her chip? If she goes to the shelter they will scan it and call me right? I know if my contact info changes I'd need to update it but why pay a yearly fee? The email says this "For only $16.99, you can renew your annual membership and rest assured that MAGGIE is protected with a comprehensive package of safety and wellness coverage." I think it is a "package" of stuff I don't need. Does anybody know? |
I think I might get the personalized collar. It is just stamped and not actually embroidered right? I considered the break-away cat collar until I realized that somebody might someday try to walk her with the collar and not the harness. If I forget to tell them it's break-away then she could probably break away on her walk! Do any of the pet stores offer these collars? |
1 Attachment(s) the one i just ordered from the link in my quote there is like a stitched name and phone number on the collar and it's a breakaway. it ships to US for even cheaper. you can see examples if you click on the cat breakaway collars from there.... some other people were also talking about a metal tag that is embossed but lays flat on the tag so it wouldn't dangle and make noise.... i'll see if i can get the example pic on here |

also i'm sure you could remove the D ring so that it couldn't be attached to a leash ever. i think that's what i'll do...as i just thought of it! |
A fine line magic marker and a light pink collar worked great to ID Abby until she was big enough to get a collar that matched Ziva's.Then we bought matching light weight aluminum tags from tags4less. My choice would have been matching silk collars from Foxy Pups but we had to settle for a 'lil pals collar until Cindy is back in business. |
