Are Yorkies really that rare?
 

We went camping over the weekend and I could not believe all the attention I got taking the girls on a walk, we had people stopping us left and right!

I felt like a celeb! LOL

I even had people walk right up to are lot and just start talking to me. Most would say " Ohh I want a Yorkie so bad"

I don't know, I guess Yorkies are that rare? Are they rare in your area?

I know what you mean. I cant go anywhere without getting all kinds of attention. I have to admit, before I bought my first yorkie a couple years ago, I dont believe I ever laid eyes on one in person so maybe there are a little rarer than most dogs or maybe it is just they are so expensive that not everyone can afford them for pets so you dont see them alot.

I think it depends on where you live. In Southern California I see quite a few.

In my area they are kind of rare.. I don't see many around

we have a couple of them in my neighborhood, but I never seen the owner out walking them or anything.

We walk the girls everyday and were always getting goo'ed at lol

I know mine are cute and all, but geez lol

Not rare, just sought after. That's why they are the #2 breed in the country. People just little dogs.

I know there are a few in our town. My friend has two and I know of a couple of others, but never see them out anywhere. Guess they're kind of rare here too.

Second most popular breed in the US, #1 is labs. Not so rare....btu just sooo stinkin cute!

They must be rare here because when we go for walks people actually ask me what kind of dogs they are. I thought everyone knew what a Yorkie was :confused:

It's a Yorkie thing:laugh: I can't go anywhere without someone wanting to oooh and ahhh over my girls. It's nice, but sometimes annoying:p

I don't know if they're rare, but I know people always stop us to look at Miko and Emma(my maltese). And I do the same. Even when we're not with our furbabies, if I see someone with a yorkie, I always stop to talk to them and admire their beautiful little babies. People, including myself, love dogs :) especially little ones like yorkies or maltese :)

I guess many times that's the reason they seem rare: People own them, but they don't walk them. They are small so they think they get enough exercise inside. Well, in part, it is true, but they still need to be walk a few times a week.
Still, because they are all so darn cute, everybody acts like they are unique and rare! :)

Everytime we go anywhere with Chloe, she gets lots of attention. We like it! :thumbup: :)

lol Do you know I know exactly how you feel and I think all of us with yorkies know how you feel just because yorkies are so darn cute!!! The other day when I went bike riding in Central park and I took London in the basket with me do you know how many people stopped me, every person I passed pointed at her, smiled, said ohhhh, ahhhhh and sooo many ppl asked me if they could take her picture. I was like sure, but i felt like a celebrity. I mean I didn't know she would cause such a stirr but that's how it is owning a cute little yorkie :)

Yea true...I guess that is how celebrities feel..they can't go anywhere w/o ppl noticing them and taking pics

Yeah, I was surprised when a couple people asked me what kind of dog Cody was- and when I answered, one guy was like, oh, he must be really young then. I'm like, haven't you ever seen a PUPPY?! A 3 month old is not going to look the same as a 2 year old in any breed!:rolleyes: Some people say, "oh, I've always wanted a little dog like that" and I wonder if they don't know what kind of dog it is... and others will come up to me and say, "oh, I've always wanted a yorkie." I have to admit though, the only place I had ever seen a yorkie before we got Cody was on the t.v. for dog shows.
I know what you mean! sometimes I just want to take Cody for a walk without having to stop for every single person we meet on the sidewalk. If they don't stop and give Cody attention, he pouts, but I can get him to keep moving. Once someone stops and starts talking and petting him and letting him give puppy kisses, it's all over and impossible to get him going again because he acts like he wants to go with them instead! Sometimes I think he likes the idea of being with new people more than he likes being with us! I have to admit, Cody looks really depressed when people just walk right by him on the sidewalk though :rolleyes: like we don't give him enough attention when we're with him 24/7:rolleyes:

Every one wants one, but they don't realize how high maintenance they are?
They aren't rare but it's Rare to see one walking in Public, that's well behaved
and Trained, Socialized, well groomed and dressed in coordinating outfits in full gear prancing around! I have 3 that are small-3.5 lbs., medium-7 lbs., & large-10 lbs. I make them walk and I only carry around the small one, she gets tired faster then the bigger ones and I get tired of Strangers wanting to pick her up! Depending on my mood it's a pleasure to do "Public Relations & Marketing" for Yorkies, but if I'm in a hurry it's quite annoying! Talk about Celebrity status. I am in Myrtle Beach, SC and they are very common/popular but poorly bred so they are questionable, most people don't even know if they actually have a purebred Yorkie, never mind asking if they're are any Champions in their Bloodline!:animal36

I think Lacy usually gets so much attention because of the clothes I put her in :-)

Yorkies didn't make the top 10 in 6 cities on the list!!!:eek:

Here , I wish they were rare because they wouldn't end up in shelters . Some peoples are too unresponsibles to have one .

Recently , we took cares of 7 abandoned little ones ranging from 2 pounds to 10 pounds . Luckily they all found good homes .

I checked that site out unbelievable that Labs are number 1 in almost every city. My daughter has a lab mix and he is a great dog ..though he is Beautiful & BIG
All 6 of my yorkies don't even wieght has much has her lab.
I do not see many yorkies around here much either, but the ones I do see are in the camp grounds.

They're pretty rare in my area, I've only seen a couple.

They are not "rare" around here, but they are unusual. :aimeeyork Mugzy always gets LOADS of attention when we're out. I think it's cause he's so cute, but it could be his little outfits or his traveling bag. He loves the attention, but he doesn't particularly like to be held or touched by other people. I don't take him out for walks unless my husband is with me because we live in town and there are plenty of loose dogs, or dogs that are not properly restrained by their owners. I'm afraid he'll get attacked.

I know there are more Yorkies in town but have only seen one.
Chewy goes to our shop everyday we sell antiques but everyone wants to take Chewy home, To bad we can't clone him;)

They're probably rare in some places, but I think it's because they're just so cute and have so much personality.

Max is the star of our block. One of my neighbors told me I should have "showings" and charge admssion.
