Hello I just wanted to say hello to you all. I am new to this site but I have been reading around for the last couple of days, trying to orient myself on yorkies. My boyfriend and I are looking to adopt a male yorkie into our family within the next couple of months!!! We're super excited, so any information you may have would be wonderful as we are new to this world of yorkies!!! |
:yorkietal WELCOME TO YORKIETALK :yorkietal I am so glad that you found YorkieTalk. You are doing a GREAT thing, by learning all you can BEFORE taking the plunge. Yorkies are not for everyone.... and a lot of people who bring yorkies into their homes would have a much happier few weeks if they were as WISE as you ad your bf are. I think I can say with some certainty tht there is nothing you have a question about that someone here doesn't have some good answers for. Congratulations and hugs from chattiesmom :ghug: |
Hi! Welcome to YT! I wish I had found this forum before getting a Yorkie, too...I would have been so much more prepared! Boy yorkies are wonderful! Mine is such a lover and cuddler. I hope you find what you are looking for. |
Welcome to YT . The best thing to do is let the puppy choose you . You can't be wrong with this method . |
Welcome! I came here 5 months before I got my yorkie and it was the best resource I had! Feel free to jump right in to any threads that interest you, or that you have questions about. Don't hold back just because you don't have your yorkie yet. YT is a wonderful place, I'm sure you'll love it here! :D |
Welcome to YT. I was on here everyday for a month or more reading and asking questions before I got my first Yorkie. This is a great site and everybody is so friendly and helpful. :aimeeyork |
Welcome to YT! I wish I had been here when I got my first two.. there's a wealth of information! I've been so busy that I haven't been able to check in as often as I used to.. BUT you will become addicted. Good look finding your little furbaby! |
Welcome! I am new myself! I just got my Yorkie last month and it is the best think I have done! This website gives you great ideas and information! |
Welcome to YT and thanks for checking us out before you adopt a new puppy. Yorkies are great, but they are small people in dog suits. Be prepared to really work if you decide to get one. I have two and so does my daughter. We love them dearly, but they do demand and need a lot of your time. Good luck to you and your boyfriend...maybe we will soon see you back with lots of yorkie pics! |
Thank you for the wonderful welcomes!! I have already become quite addicted to this site, which is kinda scary considering I don't even have my little one yet!! I do have some questions regarding introducing my pup to my two cats once we pick up our little one! We have two adult cats, Miss Chloe who is our princess (she's 3), fixed and all shots up to date, then there is Logan who is our little lap kitty, he's about 2, fixed and up to date in shots. Neither of them are declawed!!! The only issue I think i'm going to have is with Chloe as she is the dominent female....how can we deal with this when we bring our new pup (Duke Wellington the 1st - boyfriends choise) home?? Any help is great...thanks |
Welcome to YT! |
We have a cat in the house. And she had been the sole pet for a couple of years when I got my puppy. I had the same concerns. But puppies need to be supervised 24/7 so I was always there to make sure that those claws didn't get my baby. Now, one year later, they are to the point where they stay in the same room. But I haven't ever feared that Razzle (cat) would hurt Gin (furbaby). In fact, now that Gin is a lonely only, she even tries to get Razzle to play, emphasis on try. But they both can and do sit on the back of the loveseat and watch the neighborhood go by... Welcome to YT. It is a great place, with lots and lots of information. It has been a source of comfort and knowledge for me. |
Welcome to YT. I have a male yorkie age 3. He's the sweetest, most precious, lovey dovey, cuddly, stubborn, ornery, stubborn (did I already say that?, it bears repeating) stubborn, wild thing around. My advice is this... Otis is a "runner" some yorkies aren't like this and I've heard they can be trained not to do this. I haven't been able to train it out of him. It's a serious terrier instinct to hunt. When he see's a bird, or a kitty or anything he fells must be chased, there NO stopping him. Nothing works, not a biscuit or a bye bye, or a stern voice. Also I have to watch for open gates and doors held open for just a second too long as he will bolt!! so make sure you're ready in case your baby has this trait. Good Luck with your new baby. It will be the most rewarding thing. I didn't have dogs growing up. the unconditional love he gives me is overwhelming. (I'm starting to get mushy) Can't help it, I love him sooo much. I'm thankful every day to have Otis and Oliver (shihpoo). They bless me beyond what I deserve. |
