I had my cat, Kira, for almost 5 years when I got Lacy. Kira isn't the friendliest of cats so of course she didn't like Lacy. But Kira is not a confrontational type of cat and always runs away from Lacy. They get along fine, but as someone already stated about their yorkie - Lacy also chases Kira. She hears that bell ringing and takes off after her. I yell at her to stop...tell her no...offer her a treat to not run after the cat - doesn't work. I just can't keep her from chasing the cat when she wants to. Lacy's with me at work during the week so Kira has plenty of time to walk around the house while Lacy's not there and she tends to stay on the couch in the living room when I'm home in the evenings. Anyways, I got a new kitten, Sophie, about two months ago. She and Lacy get along great (Sophie and Kira get along pretty well too). Every day when Lacy and I come home from work, Sophie rubs all over Lacy. They even play some, but Lacy tries to play with Sophie like she's a dog and Sophie doesn't play like that. Lacy chases Sophie some too but Sophie will stand her ground when she doesn't feel like running. With Sophie I feel like the chasing is more playing but with Kira it's not playing. I wish Kira would stand her ground and teach Lacy a lesson.. Anyways, your cats will probably not like your new puppy at all at first. Make sure your kitties can get away from the puppy and be sure to give them lots of attention and let them know they are still the boss. Oh, and puppies seem to LOVE getting into the cats' litter box! It's so gross - most dogs love cat poop. So you'll probably have to make sure your puppy doesn't have access to the litter box. Lacy hardly ever gets in the litter box anymore but I caught her a couple weeks ago in it - I was so mad LOL...it's so gross! I took her downstairs and washed her mouth out and brushed her teeth. |
Thank you for the wonderful replys about the babies and the cats. I don't think my Logan will have an issue with the new pup, he's pretty submissive. Miss Chloe may have an issue at first but we'll let them adjust over a period of time so that everyone is happy!!! Im so excited about getting our new pup, hopefully within the next couple of months, once I'm working and once our room mate is gone....the room mate moving out is our way of puppy proofing!!! |
