June Bugs!!!! My Dogs Will Not Stop Going After Them And Eating Them... My One Dog Vomited This Morning Because She Ate Too Many June Bugs Last Night. I Found Pieces Of Them In Her Vomit. I Had No Idea She Was Finding Them In The Yard. I Wish She Would Stop This But She Is Like On The Prowl For These Thing. It Grosses Me Out So Bad! Has Anyone Had This Problem? |
My parents' yorkie does that. They have so many June Bugs on their back porch and Rylie just goes around trying to eat them all. He also tries to eat all the dead worms on the drive way. So gross. |

My babies try to eat them too! I usually laugh though because I can see the June bugs hanging on for dear life, stuck on their beards! They start shaking their head, and if the june bugs get close to their noses' they start sneezing! I don't think they have "successfully" eat one yet though! And if they have, they haven't thrown up. :p |

I don't think its dangerous to them, if anything they are getting extra protein! You are so right though.... it's gross and I wouldn't like it at all.... It might sound mean but maybe you can put a muzzel on your kids until the june bugs are gone for the season. At least this way they can't eat them. |
Just be happy its only one month per year! At least here it is! |
that is gross. ok I'm gonna ask a dumb question,,,what is a june bug? do they have another name? |

Ewww.... they look like fat roaches! or a Jail bird roach! I would freak if my kids ate them! |
oh ok, looks like a beetle to me lol i havnt seen any yet, and hope I dont lol |
It looks like he will be getting a lot of protein in his diet this month.....;) |
I'm soooo glad to hear my angels are not the only ones with strange food cravings! Darla had one hanging from the hair under her chin the other night. It was so disgusting. Yes, they eat them, throw them up, leave parts all over my floor and chair. I'll be so glad when they're gone. |

They have been clinging to my patio screen lately. They try to kill me every time I take Chloe out to potty in the evening. |

Those are definitely the Japanese beetles on the roses. They go after peach trees too. Last year was the first year my peach tree had tons of peaches on it. There were literally HUNDREDS  of those Japanese beetles swarming around it. That problem is gone now, as I had the tree taken down :( . I cannot deal with bugs like that! |
Oh yes, we are definitely having June bug issues right now and I have to say I HATE this time of the year because of them. We can not go out on our porch without getting attacked by them! I can handle all kinds of bugs but those things with their tickly legs really freak me out when they get on me. In fact, a couple nights ago our youngest daughter came running in our bedroom because after laying in bed for about 10 minutes, she felt a June bug crawling IN her nightgown! She had gone out on the porch right before going to bed to tell the cats good night and one had attached to her without her knowing! Uck!! Our dogs like chasing them but I don't think they eat them. The little kitten that we are baby-sitting for my MIL is having a ball trying to catch them! I think the only reason the dog would throw up after eating them is because they ate too many. They aren't poisonous or anything. And no, they are nothing like roaches but they are very annoying!! |
i don't think they eat them on purpose. i think it's because they are fun to chase and make cool noises. i hate them too, so bumbling. they even get so bad if you open the dryer they go in there for the light. and any sort of beetle may make them throw up a little bit. maybe they aren't chewing them up and swallowing them whole and when they gag it, they have some extra come out. |
Mine aren't satisfied until they each get to eat a couple before bed time. They cruch on them like they're Lays Potato Chips. :p |

[QUOTE=SharonKay;1188085]Grub worms turn in to June bugs, after they ruin your grass. they eat the roots of your grass and kill it. We haven't had any June bugs yet. When we see June bugs they are flying over the grass and around lights. Years ago our baby liked locusts, and I asked vet, he said they were a delicacy. |

My Bug Lover! 1 Attachment(s) My Jilly loves to play with any kind of bug crawling within her space. Right now it is June bugs. She toss them in the air or flips them on their backs so they are motionless except for their feet. Quite funny to watch. I haven't seen her eat any yet. I have attached a picture of her when she was a puppy playing with a bug. |

I grew up in WV. and we had June bugs that were the size of a nickle and are a metallic green. As kids we use to tie a string to one of the back legs and let them fly around and around. |
I always thought June bugs were the giant gross scary beetle looking things like the size of the palm of your hand maybe not quite as round. Anyways, all I have to say is yuck yuck yuck!! |
Sissy loves any bug that flies. You should see her take to the air and catch flies! |

http://www.cirrusimage.com/Beetles/j...beetle_001.jpg June bugs are smaller and brown... http://www.cirrusimage.com/Beetles/June_bug_med.jpg They both come out in Summer. June bugs come out in June and are often gone by mid July. Japanese beetles start off as grubs in your lawn and hatch out about the time the June bugs go away...they stay until around August or September. They both gross me out! |
