Yorkie's and Camping? Hey guys. I wanted to ask your advice. I had planned to go camping with my good friend this weekend for her birthday, and then... well...I got my puppy. I'm wondering how he would do camping? And if that would be okay for him at 9 weeks old? I would bring his huge crate, and of course he'd be with me the whole time... never out of my sight. has anyone here taken their baby camping with them? or should I pass on this :( thanks everyone! |

They got so much attention it was not even funny! You should have a dog stroller, it makes it a lot nicer. We are taking them again this weekend to Lake Michigan, I can't wait! I have made them both camping vest! |
Here is a slide show of are 1st camping trip! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82824 |
I'm going camping in August to Sequoia, and I'm taking Chloe with us. I'm really looking forward to it. We're staying at the same campsite we've been to the past 3 years, so I already know it will be perfect for her. What I plan to do to make sure she doesn't wander away from camp (it is black bear territory) is put her on a long tie out. That way she can move about the whole campsite, but I won't have to worry about her running off somewhere. She sleeps in her crate, so we'll just bring it and she can sleep in her crate in the tent. Great idea about the camping vest. I think I"ll make her a camoflage dress or something "rugged" looking yet still fufu! :) |
hmmm good responses! I feel a little better about bringing him now! You dont think it matters that he's so young?? (9 weeks) |

Chloe's going to be about 11 months old when we go. 9 weeks old might be tough--especially considering vaccines. |
I took my Yorkie camping over the Labor Day weekend, and she barked at EVERYTHING!! It was almost too much. At night when it was quiet we would put her in the car so the other campers wouldnt kick us out of the campground. I think she enjoyed herself, and she too made a million friends. People that dont know yorkies or have had a chance to be around such a little dog are just drawn to them. Its a good thing she is so cute...or we would have been in trouble. |

I would just call your vet and ask about the health issues with the vaccines. And you know your pup better than us, but when I first got Buddah he got a little scared in new places especially with a lot of people. When these little onces get stressed it can be serious because they may stop eating. |

hmmm maybe I better pass on camping at this young of an age :( |

I don\'t know what I would do. First because of the vaccines and also it could get very warm with no air conditioning. I would be concerned about heat exhaustion. If your vet thinks that your baby is okay with the current vaccines I would consider it though. |
Well as for air conditioning, we\'ll be in the mountains. It\'ll be a decent temperature. Probably 60\'s-70\'s. Quote:
