I'd call your vet and check. On one hand, I think the socialization would be a good thing. My only fear would be if there are any health risks at such a young age and without all his shots. We took Eddie on a two-week car-camping trip when he was 10 or 11 weeks, and it was a great experience. He learned to love car rides, he learned not to be scared of strange sleeping arrangements, unfamiliar people and places. I think it did him a world of good. But I never checked with a vet beforehand. It might not have been the wisest thing to do. If you do take him, be sure to bring some Nutrical. If he gets nervous and refuses to eat, that will give him some needed calories. It's a high-energy paste. |
Wow two weeks!? and he did great? that's promising. guess I'm going to have to make an executive decision here :( It could be a really great experience or a really horrbile experience. |

But again, I'd let your vet make the final decision. |

i took gracie camping a the first weekend i got her she was young so she slept most of the time but we go all the time now that shes older and she loves it i think it would be fine if she has a cool place and water etc! |
Yeah I just spoke with the breeder (who absolutely LOVES his babies) and he said that he thinks he'll be fine. (we're only going Saturday afternoon - Sunday morning/ afternoon). Nothing too long. He said that as long as he has plenty of shade and has his crate and water, he'll be just fine. He also said I can drop him off at his house and he'll babysit for me, but I want him with me! :D Still thinking about it though. but I do feel a bit better seeing that other people had taken their babies at such a young age! |
Ohh yeah, 9 weeks may be a lil young to take him camping. My girls are 1 & 4. Def talk to your vet 1st. |
I know this is a little late in posting but we took Murfee camping when he was just a couple of months old. I did keep him with me most of the time...by that I mean he was in his carrier..kind of like a back pack but in the front and he slept most of the time. That was 3 years ago and he now has over 37,000 miles on him! He's been from Vermont to Florida to South Dakota to Utah and most places in between. He LOVES it...and everyone loves him. He gets more attention...it takes us forever to get anyplace when we are sightseeing. Patty |
I am planning to go camping this year with Haruka... It will be so exciting! |
I think it would be a lot safer to take him camping (so far as healthwise) than it was to take him to Petco at 9 weeks and put him down with other dogs. You really need to be careful having him around other dogs (especially ones you know nothing about) with him being this young. There are probably a lot of possible doggie diseases a puppy could pick up at Petco or Petsmart. I would wait until he's more like 4 months before taking him to one of those. |
Daisy and Teddy each have their own afghan on the bed that they sleep on at home. We take the afghans everywhere we go and it makes them feel safe and like they are at home. Once we forgot to take them and the pups were very nervous and kept running to the hotel room door and barked a lot, they just wouldn't settle down. Ever since we have remembered to take their afghans and it has never happened again. They always settle down and are relaxed. So I would suggest you take something that they really love from home. Anyway, Daisy and Teddy love camping and it seems like they know to be quiet and not disturb other campers. They love meeting other campers and their dogs. In fact, any time we open the camper door (at home) they run to the seats up front and sit quietly waiting for daddy to take them camping. We take camping cots for the doggies (they LOVE them) for sitting outside so they are not laying on the grass (ticks...yuck). Like someone else said, if you have a stroller make sure you take it. Mine LOVE to ride in the stroller and also just sit and chill in it. They get so much attention from other campers when they are "strolling". They love it. |
I really enjoyed those pics, made me want to camping today... :) Your girls and babies are beautiful.... |

That's what we do, we keep both Bella & Lucee on long tie's attached to the camper so we don't have to worry about them wondering off while we're hanging around at camp. They do great. |
