size of Yorkie Hi, I have just joined this group. Our yorkie, Lincoln, joined our family in February. At the time he was about 3 lbs. and about 9 weeks old. The breeder told us he would probably be a little over 8 lbs full grown. He is now about 7 months old and weighs a little over 10 lbs. i have this feeling he still has a little growing to do. He is not fat just big. Does anyone have a Yorkie this size? all the ones we have seen so far are all much smaller than him. Karen |
Hi, karen & welcome to yt:) :) There are many different sized yorkies, i have 4 and not one are the same in weight, my new baby is 13 wks and weigh 1pd 6oz, and my joey he is the biggest weighing in at about 7lbs, he is 2ys old, so i guess you never really know untill they are done growing, there is a lot of info on here about size, to me it dont matter the bigger the better:D would love to see pics of lincoln. |
My Logan is 12.5lbs. Search Teapot & you will find a lot of bigger yorkies listed on here. |
Welcome to YT! There are a lot of YTers w/bigger Yorkies. That just means there is more to love!:) |
Baxter is 5 months and weighed 7 lbs about two weeks ago. I don't believe he is done growing. I recently saw a couple of really small Yorkies - I believe with my life style and home life - I'm glad my Yorkie is on the larger size - The smaller ones really need a lot more attention. They seem very fragile - Very cute - but very fragile. |
Mine too, a big one. About 11 lbs. He is cute, all yorkie with no doubt, 100% AKC papered and we're happy with him. More to love and easy to take care of, more hair to brush, which I love. We are going to grow long coat because his hair silky, shiny and do not tangle. I think it's going to make a real statement - huge, silky hairy yorkie :D with a show quality coat :animal36 . We just love him to pieces and I'm sure you love yours no matter what size he is. |
Hello and welcome :yorkietal My mother in-laws baby boy is 16lbs and he is pure yorkie! He is so cute! Would love to see some pics of your baby! |
He won't be so delicate and should be able to do more things with you and roughhouse with the best of them.:D |
Don't be concerned he may be larger than the standard. There are lot's of Teapots on this site. They are sturdier and just as loving as their little brothers and sisters. This is Buddy. He is 15.5lbs. He was 13.5 for two years I have no idea how he gained two more lbs. Hoping the vet's scale was wrong. I wasn't thrilled but what can you do? He's healthy and the love of my life. Welcome to YT |
My guy is 11.5 and I couldn't be happier. I was told when I got him that he would be a big one...they thought maybe 15 lbs. I didn't care...I couldn't pass up that cute baby boy. :D |

Hi and welcome to YT! I have two bigger yorkies.:) Ginger is 13.5 lbs, Bernie is 11.5. More to love! (btw, they are still small dogs) |
What can i expect my baby to grow to? He's 9 weeks and 1lb, 5 oz. |
JD is 15lbs. I was told he would only get to be 5. :D I love the fact that he is bigger. I don't worry about hurting him as much. |
there are lots of big ones on this forum. I got one of 'them there gals' my self. being bigger doesn't mean they are big. they are still small in the dog world. and cute as a button too. |
At four months my boy was 4.8 lbs. Almost five months now and I have to weigh him again. But the bigger the better. I felt bad because the last time I discussed size on YT I got the impression that mine was going to be too big, off the charts:rolleyes: . Anyway, I will love him no matter what. |

My Mugzy just got weighed on Monday, and he was 3.4 pounds (12/15/06 birthday). I wouldn't mind if he got bigger, but then again, I wouldn't mind if he stayed the same! He is my baby:D |
Welcome to YT. You've definitely come to the right place for Yorkie info! My guy is 14 pounds -- twice the size my first Yorkie ever reached. Don't worry about it. I always thought Ozzie was a freak of nature, until I found YT. Not only are there other Yorkies around his size, some are even bigger. And ignore people in public who may ask you stupid questions (Are you SURE he's a Yorkie? is chief among them) or make snide remarks about him being bigger. Just feel lucky to have all the benefits of the breed inside a heartier -- though still small -- body.:D |
My Biggie is 5.5 Months and he weighs 6.8 Pounds. According to the breeder, He was supposed to be between 4 and 6 pounds as his Mom is 6 pounds and his Dad is 3 pounds I love him to pieces and don't care how big he is as long as he is healthy. |
Yorkies come in all shapes and sizes. My yorkies are aroune 3.5lbs, my sister's yorkie is 6lbs, my parent's yorkie is 12lbs, my grandparents yorkie is 10lbs and my aunt's yorkie is 8lbs. So, our family is proof that they are all over the charts! |
I have 2 teapots: Shooter weighs 13.5 lbs 1-1/2 yrs. and Maggie 12 lbs. 1 year old. When we got Maggie we wanted another bigger yorkie. |
size of Yorkie: DUnks is 13 lbs! 2 Attachment(s) When ew got Dunks of Christmas 2006, he weighed I believe 5 pounds and he was 4 months then. The breeder told us that he might be at around 8-10 lbs max. (he's not a mix either, he's a purebred Yorkie, we got his AKC papers) Now, he is 11 months old and when we weighed him at the Vet last week, he weighed in at a whopping 13 pounds!!! This whole time I thought he was 9 pounds coz I weighed him a week before that. BUT, I would not want it any other way though! I love my big yorkie!! He's adorable, very playful and very affectionate. I love how he is bigger than the smaller yorkies coz I can rough play with him and there is more to cuddle!!! :D |
AMEN TO THAT. It's so irritating when people ask if your dog is really a Yorkie. Coz they would ask, "is your dog a Yorkie?" and then of course you answer is YES then they'll ask "are you sure?" oh people sometimes... LoL |
Teapots Rule!!!! Otis is 3yrs old and weighs 9 pounds. He is long and lean (long legs). Welcome to yorkietalk!! We like em big and we like em small!! |
Summerlin weighs 6 1/2 lbs. The woman she came from said she would be 6 lbs max, but I really wish she would get just a little bigger. I was always so afraid she would get hurt when she was smaller. I have two skin boys who were always supervised with her, but.... Since she has gotten bigger, although she is not as big as some, I am more comfortable with them holding and playing with her. |
There are lots of bigger yorkies! My little girl is about 2.6 lbs at 4 months so she's "expected" to top out at 4.... but I looooove the bigger babies.. they are so sweet looking and have tons of that gorgeous yorkie hair!! |
Teapots How was the name for a bigger Yorkie derived? |

The tiny yorkies are called tea cup because they are about the size of a tea cup. The bigger yorkies are called teapot because they are bigger than a tea cup. I think it is just a cute play on words......... so to speak.:) |
