Yearly Vaccines are not needed! This is important to educate ourselves about so I thought I'd start a new thread. The AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) released info in 2003 that was revised in 2006 - they no longer recommend annual vaccines. Here is some Q & A: http://www.healthypet.com/library_vi...x?ID=196&sid=1 HERE is an example of the vax schedule you should follow for your pet's best health: http://www.critteradvocacy.org/Canin...0Guidlines.htm If you find resistance from your vet, it is likely bc of a loss of revenue - which would tell you alot about their advocacy for animal health. Hope this helps. |
Great post :) I can't get this link to open,....... http://www.critteradvocacy.org/Canin...0Guidlines.htm |
The links are not working. You know I never did give my dogs vaccinations every year I didn't know we were suppose to  |
Give 'er another try - I don't know why that posted funny... |
I questioned my vet about it a couple months back and he said he somewhat agrees with it. He said vaccines should be given up til three years which helps to build immunity and then you can go every two years in between. I questioned him hard because you figure these dogs are small and that's a lot of meds. SO he recommends regular vaccs for the first three and then alter. I am giving lulu all her first year stuff and then gonna skip two years but she will get her rabies annually. |
Here they both are again: http://www.healthypet.com/library_vi...x?ID=196&sid=1 http://www.critteradvocacy.org/Canin...0Guidlines.htm |

You know if you think about it way back when people never vaccinated their dogs and they lived to a ripe old age. ....give you cause to think right? I am getting lulu finished for this year especially since it has to be done to have her spayed and then she won't get it for another three years or so. She is so damn small I don't see why it's necessary. |
A titer test for the level of antibodies against the disease would be able to tell if your pet will be able to fight the antigen. Just like in humans, everybody is different and then you will know for sure. It is probably more expensive to do but at least you will know that your furbaby is protected enough if exposed. I vote for a titer test before more vaccinations. |
This is true! One of the top vets in the U.S. is actually heading up the research for this. Studies have shown that vaccines have lasted 10 yrs!! And they want to vaccinate our babies every single year.... |
Have you noticed as well that no matter what the size of the dog the meds administered is the same. How can a 100lb rottie need the same dosage as a 3lb yorkie? My dad has his dogs and they only received their initial vaccines and he has yet to give them anymore. Oreo is now 5 and healthy as a horse. Zeus lived to be 14 with no problems. Go figure. |
I've been spreading this same information for years now. After the initial puppy shots, my Vet. doesn't recommend any more for at least three years also. Keep up the good work, send to everyone you know who has pets. |
I started researching this about 1 1/2 yrs ago also...I googled "over vaccination" & "vaccinosis" one day & was appalled in what I was reading...There is a vet named Dr. Robert L Rogers in Texas who has been a big advocate on this & has even tried to bring lawsuits against all licensed vets in the state for deceptive practices on behalf of the public at this link: http://www.petresource.com/Articles%.../texas_vet.htm I've read that the vaccine protocol was set up BY THE VACCINE COMPANIES without any proof of their length of effectiveness & the vaccine co's fund most of the Vet. Schools.... pretty good set up for them  These links have some pretty good info, but there's plenty more out there...Dr.Jean Dodds & Dr. Catherine O Driscoli are advocates on this issue, after reading what I have, I will no longer put my dogs welfare in the hands of the vet on blind faith anymore, I must make the decision for my yorkies best interest concerning vaccines MY decision .... http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/petvacc2.htm http://www.weim.net/emberweims/Vaccine.html http://www.knowbetterdogfood.com/dog...accination.php http://www.critteradvocacy.org/ |
