Thanks for the good thoughts everyone... We brought him to the vet this morning and got the call at 11 a.m. that Fitzy likely has a liver shunt that's genetic. His blood level was even lower today, and the vet told us he might not make it another few days. :( We then had the dog transfered to the vet that our pet store tells us to use. We wanted that vet to confirm his diagnosis so the store would replace the dog, as per the warranty. And then we would have to put Fitzy to sleep... Me and my fiancee cried all day. Then, at 4:30, we got a call from THIS vet, saying that they want to keep him overnight and do more tests, because he seems stable and his anemia could be a reaction to the vaccinations he had last Friday... So, at the end of the day, there's this thin, thin ray of hope that our baby is going to get through this. We don't want to lose our puppy :( :( |
So glad you got a second opinion and hopefully the first vet was wrong. Please keep us updated. |
Get well soon I hope for the best! :( OMG I am so so sorry for you and your puppy!!! Lots of prayers coming your way!!! I am also glad you got another opinion. I hope your baby gets better soon!!!!:xfingers: |

Poor Fitzy!!!! He'll definitely be in my thoughts tonight! |
Prayers are coming your way. Poor little Fitzy, and you both. Let's hope the vet is right and that ray of hope turns into sunshine. |
Please get well soon Fitzy!!! Will most certainly say a prayer for him, and you. Grab on to that ray of hope...get the transfusion if needed, then continue to search for the answer to your prayers. He and you both need strength. Bless his little heart!!! |
I hope that is the answer for you. Sending Fritz warm thoughts and look forward to tomorrow's post for good news. |
i hate to even think of this... but please consider that the pet store may not be wanting you to replace the puppy. they would lose whatever profit they may have made from the sale of your new one. and so the vet they have hired would do what's necessary to keep your li'l loved one alive until the contract expires on his health. do they offer a year guarantee on genetic issues? when did you purchase your pup? i know that i'm being somewhat cynical here but i hope they're looking out for your pup's best interest and not their bottom line, as so many do. found this link about vaccination induced anemia you should read through. i don't recall it saying anything about dark stools....but i'm certainly not an expert. http://www.gcvs.com/internists/imha.htm he might be anemic since he's losing some blood through his stool? perhaps he got into something that perforated his insides a bit? as for liver shunt, i've heard that vets can run a bile acid test to check for that but that it's not a guaranteed diagnostic tool. i sincerely hope that all goes well for you and your fiance as you help your tiny loved one through this difficult time. be well :aimeeyork |
Prayers are on your way!!!:hands: |
