What have you learned from YorkieTalk? I did this same thread a while back, but we have a lot of new members, so I thought it would be educational to do it again. Plus I'll bet my current list is different than my earlier one. * Don't punish a dog if you catch them having an accident in the house. Instead, praise when they do it right elsewhere. * Keep vet's phone number and emergency vet's number in your cell phone. * How to express anal glands. Ugh. * What reverse sneezing is * Yorkies and Yorkie owners are a lot alike * Puppymills suck * How to teach Play Dead, Roll Over and Crawl. * Carseats are smart * Harnesses are essential * Frequent baths aren't bad. * Listen to your heart, not your wallet There's tons more, but those came to mind first. |
First and foremost is that YorkieTalk people are the best in the world!!! * everything I've ever wanted to know about dog food * all abour liver shunt & pancreatitis * grooming tips * potty training * always using harnesses * car seats and the safety of your pup * that the clothes don't use look cute, they have a purpose!! * Never listen to your wallet * that people owned by Yorkies are like no other * that Yorkies are like no other dog!! * :yorkietal |
OMG SO much!!! Everything I know now about Yorkies is cause of YT! I've even learned about breeding! |
I've learned about: -reverse sneezing -best foods -potty training (positive reinforcement, not punishment) -animal poison helpline -always use harnesses (including the cute vests :) ) -Good shampoos & products for grooming. -that it is ok to spend a lot of money on your yorkie :D -and much, much, more! And also, I've learned that they are wonderfun yorkie owners out there :) !!!! |
I love yorkie talk, I was kind of nervous before I got spencer up because I didn't know everything I needed to know, but coming onto yorkie talk you guys helped learn everything I needed to so thank you guys Yorkie talk is the best :) and Iam still learning about new things everyday on here so keep it up guys |
COOL POST ! I'm kind of shy ...:p but will TRY to express what I've learned ok...I learned ......I'm NOT Shy LOL I've learned the good people balance out the awful people in the world I've learned most ALL people here are just like me - we totally love our dogs I've learned more about breeding here than anywhere else even though I'm not a breeder I've learned maybe too many people are breeding these days & wish some would rethink their reasons I've learned our voices REALLY can make a difference in a dogs life (RE:Brushy Creek Kennels) I've learned after 25 thousand posts .... I still LOVE this site and have never been bored thanks to the people here. I can honestly say some of the friends I've made have become very special to me....being online doesn't mean superficial friendship - some are very real |
Okay here is my list: * I am NOT the only one that does "daft" things just to please my yorkie. * My Millie is NOT the only Yorkie with a quirky personality and the quirky needs that go with it. * There are lots of men who adore Yorkies. * Yorkies are finicky eaters as a general rule, so I don't worry so much about Millie anymore. * What is and is not a good choice for chew toys. * Why training your puppy to potty outside is a very good thing. * Yorkies are irresistible and therefore, spoiling them is only natural and quite frankly, unavoidable. * There is a "sliding scale" on peoples opinions of what the definition of housebroken means. * YTers are definitely passionate about their babies and their perspective and definition of "abusive" behavior on the part of others. Those are just a few things. There are many more. |
2 more from me :) I learned you can hurt and cry for dogs and people you've never met I learned that Freakin Laundry will ALWAYS be there waiting - no matter how hard you try to ignore it :D |
I learned that my Yorkie is pretty much like everyone else's Yorkie. I learned that I really am not a "nut" because I love my Yorkie so much.:D I learned about a good conditioner, and it is much cheaper than the one at Petco. I learned that there are so many other people like me who love their Yorkies.:) |
I can't believe how much I have actually learned from this site. The biggest one for me is about the Hawks and good quality pet food!:) |
I've learned: *That there ARE Yorkies bigger than mine. *About all kinds of Yorkie illnesses I never heard of before. *Just HOW bad commercial dog food is. (We've homecooked always because I knew it was bad. Just not HOW very bad!) *That, collectively, Yorkies have got to be the most spoiled breed of dog ever. (And that that's OK, because we go overboard, too!) *Most importantly: That there are LOTS of kind, caring, and generous people left in the world. (You just can't find them out there that often because they're all online.:D ) |
I've learned that -it's important to speak out against animal abuse. -that it's vital to question potential breeders -it's okay to prefer your dog to some people -it's important to question the advice or instructions given by a vet -that yorkies have special needs -that yorkie "kisses" are the best way to cure depression! Thanks for being here Yorkie Talk!! :) |
I learned my dogs are normal Yorkies! Their antics and lack of discipline is normal! I used to worry WAY too much... but coming here and reading things Ive learned to loosen up a bit with them... afterall even though they are 'my kids' they are dogs too and I dont need to be a crazy lady just because I own Yorkies! haha |
I can never list everything I have learned in the few months I have been on here but here are a few: * YT people are the best most caring people I have ever "met". Even though we don't share coffee over the back fence these people send out prayers, encouragement, money, time and just about anything someone asks from them and do it willingly. * thanks to Cindy I know everything I never wanted to know about bully stix..she even ordered some for Murfee! * I learned that Science Diet sucks * I have learned more about yorkie problems...liver shunts, trachea problems etc than I ever knew existed. * I have learned that I am not the only crazy lady who thinks her little baby is the most precious beautiful wonderful little guy that ever existed. * I learned that more people than just me think their dogs are better friends than most people. * I have also learned that there are some really stupid hard headed people out there who are "raising" poor little babies. * I learned that yorkies can even live in Alaska....where there is lots of snow!!! But I think most of all I learned that I missed out on a lot of friendships before I came to this wonderful caring site. Patty |
EVERYTHING I know about yorkies - I LOVE this place and the endless support. |
i have learned that yorkie talk people are the best i have learned how to groom my yorkie i have learned what foods are good for her and what isnt. i have learned that yorkies have lots of accidents in the house. i have learned that yorkies need lots of exercise and attention i have learned that yorkies lick alot i have learned to use a harness when you walk them i have learned to never let them out of your site when outside i have learned to be very patient when training them alway praise when they do something right never scold them, never punish them i have learned what makes their coat shine, what shampoos to use, what they can eat, what they might be allergice to. i just love this place.. thanks my friends, lexi would not be the same with out all of you and i wouldnt know as much as i know now. i have learned so much from yt that i can share any info i have to newbies and people who care about their pets, whether it be here or on the streets... |
Wow,what haven't I learned ? This is the best site I have come a crossed! So much information is on here. I have told 3 people about it so far and I have only found it a week ago! all the people here seem so nice and caring! |
I can only repeat what everyone else has said. Everything I know about raising and caring for Adie I learned from YT. The most surprising thing I learned is that she isn't lots smarter, cuter or easier to train than other dogs. It is a "Yorkie Thing." I have also learned that I will always own a yorkie - they are the perfect dogs. |

I laughed out loud about the laundry one. I'd add: Dirty clothes keep you just as warm as clean clothes. |
I knew nothing about yorkies before YorkieTalk. I've learned when I don't know something I can come here and read or ask and someone knows the answer. Also, I've learned just how shy Villette really is!!LOLOLOL:D :D |
I agree with the post before mine...one of the most important things I've learned is that when I have a question, most of the time no one will think I'm stupid and everyone will get back really quickly with answers. I've also learned that it is possible to be more obsessed with your dog than I am :P I've learned about sooooo many topics that I never new existed (sadly) before YT, but that's what it's here for, right? I've learned that there are also so many wonderful YT vendors that really, really want me broke :D:D:D (just kidding ;)) I've learned just how CUTE yorkies are (every one) and how AWESOME yorkie owners are! YT has been so great and is such a great resource but also soooo much more than that. So here's to you, fellow YTers....  |
I have learned from YT that we are an extended family and "It takes a Village". We are the village and, even though I have not met anyone in person, the videos, pictures and writing creates a magical place to visit on a regular basis. Thank you, Deborah and Charlie:ghug: |

I've also learned that begging works: the pups do it to get their treats and I can do it to get the pups--LOL. Also, you can't stop with just one..... |
Aside from what everyone has stated above and I agree wholeheartedly that if it weren't for what I read on this forum, my dog would be just a dog. I realize how important he is to our family, esp. me, and his whole self and well being relies on me. Thanks to this forum he's treated better than my kids and hubby are! I also learned so much about nutrition here that I think I can teach a thing or two to my vet! I also learned what an addiction to a forum is! :D I'm surprised I haven't been fired yet! |
I've learned.... Use harnesses Liver shunt I'm not the only "crazy dog lady" out there there are other people out there that care about their babies as much as me. I get support and kindness from this site that I cannot get from most of my family and friends when it comes to my babies. Thanks to all the YTers. I look forward to seeing what's going on every day! |
- I've learned that Yorkies come in all sizes and Daisy isn't the BIGGEST Yorkie in the world, there are others (nice to belong to a group that has big and little ones). - I've learned that Daisy is pretty normal for a Yorkie. I've learned a lot about 'terrier' behavior...and Daisy is a true terrier. - I've learned a lot about dog food - I've learned how to take the best care of a Yorkie - I've learned that Yorkies are the best dogs and Yorkie people are the best people ...and so much more |
Ya'll forgot one thing.....We learned......YORKIE PEOPLE ARE NUTS !! (Said in a nice way as to not offend anyone) lol .....at least we're all in good company right ? :D :D :D :D |
**Everything I ever wanted to know about Yorkies, I learned on Yorkie Talk. **People really come together to help others. Kudos to the YT train to Papi. **Watch what you feed your babies. **There is NO such thing as a "teacup" Yorkie. **You will attract a lot of people while walking your Yorkie. **There are pet-friendly hotels. **If a guy loves you, he will love your dog. **Vets cost a lot but they are worth every penny if they can help your baby. **and everything mentioned above by others. **Plus, I am still learning. YT is great! |
The only thing that I have learned, and it was just recently, If there's a raffle, Lucky wins! |
