Horrible experience at PETCO today~ i am so upset :(
 

Is he (Koda) a REAL Yorkie??

is the question i got asked today at PETCO by an employee. I said "well he is breathing isn't he"? A bit ticked off that someone would ask. The guy said, "well he doesn't look like a yorkie should look". He asked how old he was, how much he weighed and how much I paid for him and from who & where i got him from!! WTH? I told him in an obviously snotty tone that he was 3 mos old and weighed about 3lbs 10 oz. He then said" ohhhh so he isn't a real one, real ones wouldn't be that big at that age". "You sure got ripped off if you paid over $200 bucks for that one" "Who is your breeder and I will put the word out not to buy from him, his dogs aren't real, and other people don't need to get ripped off like you did."
OH MY GOSH, I was freaking pissed at this point, I couldn't even think of what to reply to him! How dare someone say that to me?! Especially at a pet store, ~*~Petco, where the pets go~*~. Is this their slogan so they can try and humiliate people when they bring their pets in with them???
I then told him to get away from me and I walked away. He went over to another guy and must have told him what just happened and they started laughing really loud. As I rounded a corner from picking up a few toys for the YT raffle the other guy was standing there. he said "were not trying to be mean we are just curious as to why you would say he (Koda) is a purebred Yorkshire Terrier when obviously he is not." I said "Well he sure looks like it to me. He matches everything so far on the AKC standard requirements" The the guy asked if I had papers on him from the breeder. i said "of course I do, they will be filled out online next week." "why do you 2 keep harassing me about my puppy?" He laughed again and said "the papers prob wont work, AKC papers are for purebred dogs and you being an obviously 1st time Yorkie buyer have no clue what you are doing."
By this point I just want to punch the guy, but that would have required putting Koda down and I WAS NOT GOING TO DO THAT!
So I said "you kids can think what you want, I really don't give a damn. And by the way here is a cart full of things you can go put away because I refuse to be interrogated and humiliated in a pet store. And Oh ya by the way, I won't be back And i will be letting the word of what happened here get around town, maybe a nice little letter to the editor. They just stood there with an :oh s**t: look on their faces. As I was uncontrollably shaking I managed to pick up a customer comment card at one of the registers on the way out. God, I couldn't get out of their fast enough. I ran holding Koda so tight against me to my truck and just sat there and cried. How can people be so cruel? I know Koda doesn't have that sweet little baby doll face and all, and he is steadily gaining weight, but he is my healthy little Koda and I love him so much! I guess from having 3 human children I really have that overprotective motherly instinct in me.
I think stores need to screen their employees a lot better. That was straight mental distress for me in there. and I am sure Koda could sense it too. I don't take well to constructive criticism, but I don't see anything wrong with Koda.

Puppies are like human. None of them look the same!!
This has upset me all evening to the point where I have been going through every thing about Yorkshire Terriers that I could on the web. To me he is a purebred Yorkshire Terrier with his full AKC papers waiting to be done online next week. What else should a "REAL" Yorkie be or need or look like???????

Thank goodness we have a PETSMART in our town also. Guess I will be going their from now on.

I am going to add though. If anyone from looking at my babies pics or have read about him sees something not right about him, would you please be kind enough to tell me? I want to know and learn all I can about my Koda. And yes he is our 1st Yorkie, we came into the Yorkie world very green and uneducated. We learn from our mistakes I guess. Not that Koda was in any way a mistake to me. He had opened a space in my heart that had been closed for over a year and a half since my beloved 19 year old cat Mittens had to be put into his final sleep.
I am just emotionally drained right now.
thanks to anyone who got this far, sorry it was so long. I really needed to get it out and see what other opinions are on my Koda Bear. This crap has been making me think about our new baby girl on her way. Did I do somehitng so wrong that I am not meant to be a yorkie Mom?:cry2::idontknow:confused:

he doesnt look like anything but a yorkie to me. and a very cute one at that. :-) as a Petsmart employee... i have to say.... PETCO SUX... lol... but really? what do those kids know... OBVIOUSLY theyre the ones that dont know anything about yorkies if they think every yorkie is going to look the exact same. i say write a letter to theyre corporate office.... did you by any chance get their names?

im so sorry you had to go through that... but your YORKIE is just as "real" and adorable as anyone elses, and dont let anyone else tell you otherwise

I think your baby looks just fine, but the pictures are very small ... boycott PetCo if they are lax enough to have not screened their help better.

He looks like pure to me. Don't be sad people ask me if my Piper is a purebred yorkie and my simple answer is She sure is. Your right in what you said each dog looks different. People are just inconsiderate especially teenagers they haven't lived long enough to know how the world works and what is appropriate conversation.

I would not take the words of those uneducated teenagers to heart! Thay don't know a flying fart from a yorkie!~ Your baby does have a cute little doll face to me! He is very sweet & precious! You may have gotten your yorkie when you were green and uneducated about yorkies but by now I think you would be a lean mean yorkie knowing machine! Don't let those fools make you have any doubts about your baby! Do make sure to call the manager up at that Petco store and tell him/her about the rude conduct of these two boys! :thumbup:

Oh my goodness. I cannot believe that! What the heck is that guy thinking? I am sure he can be fired for that harrassment. Don't just fill out the customer comment card, get in contact with the manager of the store, and also contact as high-up of an officail of Petco as you can, and tell them about your experience. Maybe we can all write letters to a customer email address about how we're boycotting Petco because of your experience? You can't just sit by and let that guy insult your little boy.

4Thank you, I believe he is very cute also, I just love him to pieces. And yes they were literally kids. Probably 20-21 years old. darn that doesn't make me look any better at only being 30 years young, lol! But I act my age and was raised with respect. A big difference i guess. No I didn't get their names. I just felt so flustered and like i was being attacked in there that i wasn't even thinking straight. The card i grabbed has the store number on it and a web addy. i am def going to do something tomorrow. Hopefully i will be able to find the main cop off addy and email them. Though I don't expect to get very far. I just wish people had more compassion towards others and their loved ones.

i apologize for the small pics. I had a little incident with our digital a couple of weeks ago. I kind of set it down beside my sink full of steaming hot dish water and the camera decided to jump in for a swim. Thats all i can think of, lol! we took it apart and let it dry for a week or so, and put it back together. It worked ok except it couldn't keep the time and date set, but it took pics. then 2 weeks ago it finally took its last shot. its dead. dumb story but thats the truth, lol! Anywho i have been taking all my pics with my pic phone (cell) and sending them to my online access album and pulling them from their to post. Ridiculous huh, lol! its a pain in the butt, but its the only way i can savor this precious stage of Koda's life right now. New camera coming in less than a month, then you guys will be able to see Koda and new baby girl really good!

Aww thanks! You are correct. i have done so much research on these little furbabies my brain is on overdrive right now trying to take it all in. Yet a whole lifetime to learn even more! The #1 thing i have learned is that they rule your world once you get 1, and i just love it! Thats why in just the few short weeks I have had Koda, i have a baby girl coming to me in 4 weeks! Amazing how they just take over your heart and find so much space in it to love you never knew you had!!:)
I will be contacting someone tomorrow. It just seemed to unacceptable to me. A person shouldn't feel cornered and humiliated in a darn pet store.:thumbdown

Koda definitely looks like a Yorkie to me... a cute one at that! Those Petco people were rude and I would complain to a manager at the store.

My Koda is perfect, thank you so much. I guess after this whole thing it had really tugged on my heart strings. i started 2nd guessing myself and i should not have. Yes words will be exchanged tomorrow either via email or phone.

koda not only looks like a yorkie to me, but a super cute one!! based on previous experiences, i personally do not like petco (products, employees, grooming salon, prices, etc!) i prefer petsmart : ) i am completely shocked at how you were harassed there, as a customer! they are examples of what unprofessional employees act like! definitely pursue some type of action against them, whether by calling corporate or going back to the store to speak to the manager. if u do go in to talk to someone, definitey bring koda again and perhaps a friend to help!

I am so sorry that you had this horrible experience!! I have never liked PetCo either! I have always preferred PetSmart. The very idea of employees doing this is unexcusable!! :( You were so much nicer than I would have been!! They would've had to rip me off them!! I would not let this go.

If little Koda isn't a Yorkie, then we may as well close this site down!! That sweet little man is all Yorkie!! ;)
