Does yours alert you when there's something outside? Otis sits on the back of the couch all night. When he see's a person, or kitty, or another dog he frieks out. If I'm sitting in the room he turns around and looks at me, and then keeps barking. If I'm in another room he runs to me, growling all the way, and then when he finds me he starts to bark again and runs back to the window. Does yours do that? I don't know if he wants to know where I am to protect me from the evil kitties, or if he wants me to come see what he see's, or why he does it. It cracks me up, I ask him "what is it" (like lassie) and he barks and takes off back to the window. Just wanted to see if anyone knows why? |
Of course Im going to respond to you....dont I always!! lol Anyway yeah...Bella pretty much freaks out when someone is here. I know if its a stranger she stricyly barks and bounces off anything in her way....If it is one of the kids....my parents...my ex hubby or sister...she does a bark/whine thing...I can totally tell if its someone we know or not.....Diggy is just 13 weeks basically clueless....he is learning tho when Bella does either bark or whine he runs in circles whining and bounces on her.....he has no idea.....lol:animal-pa |
Usually, if Gracie sees something she wants to go play with it. She seldom barks. Interesting though, the other night, about 2 am, the neighbors came home and were really noisy. Their door slammed and it sounded just like our front door slamming. Gracie woke up and barked, and did not settle back down until she was sure no one was in the house. This was the first time she ever did that. Mommy's little protector! |
I have 4 in the house and 1 GSD outside, Max (GSD) will bark at any other animal but not people yet...Bear & Mac will bark at anything, no matter if its their shadow...but when Peanut & Lexie bark, I know someone is outside my house....:) |
U wouldn't want to live in our house with Tiffanie and Sir. Galahad, They are barking if someone even scrapes our doors drives me nuts sometimes!!! I swear I'll hear Tiff going off and I'll tell her there's nothing or no one out there and I'll be dag gone if someone isn't walking down the street, she's got a nose that's really sensitive!!!!!!! She can smell from a mile away I say and yep they come get me or bark @ me until I go see and then they keep it up, she's a great watch dog. Hugs, Lee & Babies |
My little guy goes on the back of the sofa and barks at the kids going to wait for the bus. He will also bark at joggers, animals and anything else going by. He will also come and bark at me, then run back to the window. |
Maybe its because Wobie's a puppy, but he's not a watchdog type AT ALL. Oh well...maybe it will come with age. |
My babies sleep soundly at night to get rested up -- they take the day shift and let me know anytime anything out of the ordinary happens. |
Mine will let me know if someone is within 20 yard of my house...they'll even let me know when they THINK there's someone around...even if there isn't! |
Mine wouldn't let me know anything. His first bark was when he was about 6-7 months, if I'm not mistaken. He alerted me when someone was in my neighbor's yard breaking into her house but after that, I've never heard him bark again. I have to agree, my dog is pretty boring  (can't jump, can't bark) |
my fur-kids do the exact same thing...its cute and hilarious to watch...kekek |
Jake doesn't bark alot, but he will bark if he hears someone or something outside. If I tell him it's okay, he stops and goes about his business lol |
Seth barks when someone is coming down the lane, Sasha looks at him with disgust like will you be quiet, At night when we are in bed sometimes you can hear coyote (sp) howling and Seth will growl and bark at them. Sasha just moves closer to Daddy. |
My youngest Yorkie Tommy does the same thing! The other night he was staring at the grass barking and I thought maybe he had went off his rocker, but when I went over to were he was barking I noticed that there was a small "hill" developing. Our sprinkler pipe had broke! My older dog usually only barks when our youngest son is about to have a seizure! |
Oh yes, Oh yes, They also recognize the sound of each of our vehicles & will begin barking & jumping at the door before we are in the driveway. Sweet, but so noisy. They also begin barking for my attention if I'm on the phone or holding a grandchild:rolleyes: |
Ozzie barks at anything that walks by the door (when it's open), at loud noises, at other barking dogs, when the phone rings, when someone is visiting, when it's time to eat ... he is QUITE vocal. And when the mailman comes, oh God. Don't go there! I know he hears lots of things that we don't. Some nights, he will lay there and just growl. Sometimes I never know at what. Other times, there will be a few minutes delay and I will hear one of my neighbors coming home so I know he heard them before they ever got out of the car. |
Mine bark like crazy |
What I really wanted to ask about was if they have to COME GET YOU, when they see something. He doesn't just bark and then stop. He has to specifically tell me, no matter where I am in the house. Aren't Yorkies the best!!! |
Yep. I am frequently "summoned" to see whatever it is that has started the commotion. |
Ellie sits on the back of the couch and looks out the window a lot. If she sees anything AT ALL that moves she will bark and bark and bark. Sometimes she has to go to the laundry in the middle of this and sniff by the backdoor. She does come and alert us on occasion. |
Not only do they alert me if someone is outside. They alert me when no one is there, or at least I don't see anyone. Sometimes I think they see spirits & start barking. They'll lay there & growl, & their eyes look like their following someone. |
Yes Buddy barks when he hears a noise of any kind or senses another dog outside. He can sense a dog with the windows closed:D which amazes me and will do that low growl kinda barking. At night he will do a very low growl because he knows I'm sleeping when he senses a deer or other animal outside. Yorkies are great guard dogs aren't they? |
Try living in an apartment with one! The people above us and people/cars in the parking lot are soo loud... and Carson barks at EVERYTHING! Even if it's the slightest little sound. To make is worse, the mailboxes are RIGHT outside of our door so everyday at 11:00am when the mailman comes Carson goes insane! He even knows the sound of the mail truck pulling up! Then all day long when people get their mail he barks like crazy. Sooooo annoying but ya gotta love him :) |
Max thinks his job is Guardian of the Universe. It's a good thing we live on the 6th floor of an apartment building. He's very quiet for the most part, but if something is going on on our floor, he immediately stops and listens, decides if it requires his super powers, he barks for a while, comes to get me if he feels my intervention is necessary. I have to look through the peephole and let him know that we will live yet another day. Sometimes my word isn't to be trusted though, and he has to go back and bark some more. He chooses which outside noises are to be allowed without his guardianship. I have no idea what he bases these decisions on, but I'm so glad when he lets it go. He really is like a TV show. I love watching him. |

If Horatio hears something or happens to be near a window sees something outside he will bark and run around. And sometimes he will run to me all excited. I call it his "watch dog mode" and that's fine with me. It usually takes him a few minutes to settle down. |
