Surgery tomorrow..worried mom! I know i'm being ridiculous, hundreds of dogs gets neutered everyday, but he's my baby, and i'm worried! Vinnie actually goes tonight, our vet keeps him the night before and the night after, but doesn't charge more, he's just a really good vet! The extra time without him will make it harder i'm sure, just more time to worry. I would just like to request some good thoughts and prayers from my fellow YT'ers since you're such a wonderful bunch! ALSO, Vinnie is a climber and jumper...any advice on how to keep him under control so the stitches don't come out? |
i am sure everything will be fine...keke..good luck! |

My booboo had his liver shunt surgery and he has been neutered as well in the same time. They kept him for a week tho as they were afraid he might have seisures after that. But the first day he came home he jumped everywhere and I was jumping after him to try to stop him. But his stitches healed up fine so I don't think there's any reason to worry altho is hard, I was a reck. So all my good thought and prayers coming yous and your baby's way. May God keep him safe and make his recovery a speedy one. Maria |

Awwwwww hun....you are just a concern mommy...i totallie understand eventho it is very normal & typical...it is still major surgery to me too...but i'm sure you are just me a worrie wart that you think for the worst all the time !! :D make sure to keep us posted hun !! ;) |
I am sure all will be perfectly fine for Vinnie. I hope it's over soon and you can relax some. |
I felt the same way a few weeks ago when Betty was spayed. They are our babies, it's just natural to worry. It is good that you have confidence in your vet. The worst part is waiting for it to be over and having him home again! Good luck! |
Jumping and Running Our vet sent us home with strict orders to limit the running and jumping--the only problem was she forgot to tell baby Emmy! She did not understand! She healed fine (she had a hernia removed and was spayed) and then had some teeth extracted another time. Once the "drugs" wore off, she was hyper again. Good Luck! |
No matter what any of us say you are going to be nervous and anxious for your little furbaby. We have all been in those same shoes. Just try and stay strong before you know it he will be back w/you as if he never left. As far as the jumping and running, I would be of know help. We could not keep Autumn still to save our lives!:aimeeyork |
Thank you all, i will be nervous regardless of what any of you say as someone else put it, but it is always helpful to hear other stories and reassuring words. I just can't imagine not seeing his smiley little face around. To make matters worse, he's been filled with extra kisses the past three days, so i'll miss him even more but it's almost like he knew something was up! |
GOOD LUCK !! the hardest part is the waiting ....and of course leaving him while you cry your eyes out :( :( but he'll be FINE !! The jumping is something you'll have to work on though - Cheri thought she was supergirl the very next day.....Make sure they send you home with pain meds just in case and hang out with us to pass the time :D |
Your baby will be fine. Try to relax and think positive thoughts! It's an empty feeling when they're not home esp. overnight. You wonder what goes thru their minds but believe me he'll be great. I was so worried the night before I left Ralphie for stone surgery/neutering/teeth cleaning and I was told he might need to stay overnight. I brought him in at 8am and by 3pm, the vet called and asked if I'd like to take Ralphie home. I was thrilled to go get him. He was not active the first 2 days because of the stitches so I didn't have to worry about him running around. He had alot done to him so he was just not himself but by Day 3, he was playful Ralphie again! Good luck from Ralphie and me!;) :aimeeyork |
Thanks everyone, last night was really hard not having him around, I understand keeping him the night after but the night before just makes it harder on us. The apartment was so empty, I have no idea what time his surgery is today, but I can call and check in after noon. |
You and your little one are in my prayers today. When Kalani went in for his surgery I called the vet's every couple hours and they were just wonderful about keeping me updated on exactly what was going on which helped immensely. |
I know how you feel. I was sooo worried when Bengi was getting neutered altough everybody tells is "routine" and blablabla. Even here, we can tell you that everything is going to be fine and that he'll be back to be himself in no time... but still, you are going to be worried a little bit, right? Well, that's part of being a yorkie mom :) |
sending prayers your way today! |
I Feel Your Pain! Vinnie's Mom - I just droppped my little Ceiba off to be spayed, so I can totally sympathize with you about Vinnie today! I have finally calmed myself down after bawling for a good bit. I dunno what I'd do if anything happened to my baby!! I am blaming this on the pregnancy hormones!!! I spoke to the Vet and he walked me through the whole process, assured me that no barbituates would be used and that they do use Iso as the preferred gas. She will be hooked to a monitor the whole time. They told me to call after 2 and see how she is doing. I opted for pre-bloodwork to be sure she's healthy. I have her brother here with me and he senses something is up. He barked his little head off when I took her (I tried to fool him w/food). He hasn't eaten his breakfast and is just moping around. He keeps going to the door looking for his sister and whining. This all just breaks my heart! :cry2: Vinnie's Mom - keep us posted on how Vinnie recovers! I will say prayers for both of us!! |

You are allowed to be worried, I was so worried I posted here also is'nt it great the support you get here!!! Prayer have been sent and your baby will be fine. |
I should be able to call in an hour and get results, i have butterflies and can't concentrate on work today, at all! |
I missed this yesterday!! Sounds like you get him home soon?? Best wishes to you! It will alllllll be ok - I have done it 4 times with girls and 1 time with a boy - its not fun!!! I'm a worry wart too  Hugs to you!! |
Update I just called the vet, they are just so wonderful!!! They let me speak directly to the nurse that is taking care of my baby, and he's out of surgery, they said he was scared, but he did wonderful, is out of anesthesia, is neutered/chipped and the doctor even took out a molar. My vet is very anti-pulling teeth during a neuter/spay because of the nature of bacteria in a dog or even a human's mouth, but the tooth was a baby tooth and it was broken. She filled me in about his night last night and told me i could call till 7 tonight to check up and then pick him up at 4:30 tomorrow. I'm still going to worry and be nervous until I have him home but i'm more at ease. Thank you for all of your prayers and support, you're all so wonderful, I truly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart! |
YEY! I'm glad you got the info and right from the nurse! Poor little guy! Sorry you won't get him till tomorrow, but he's in good hands! |
I am so happy you got to speak with the nurse and that your baby is ok. Thank God for that. I am sure he's going to be jumping around like mad when he comes home. LOL My Boo-Boo had his surgery 2 weeks ago and he's doing so well. One more time I am really happy your baby is ok. Here's for a speedy recovery. Maria |
SO glad to hear it Glad he's OK. Take a breather -- you'll need the energy to try and contain Vinnie when he comes home!:) |
I will need energy to try and contain him, my little mountain-climbing yorkie that he is! I'll continue to worry until 4:30 pm tomorrow when I get to bring his cute little butt home! How is it that such a fragile little dog can be so brave? Bless his little heart, he can do anything he wants to do and I know i'll have a hard time stopping him! He is just such a sweet and loving little guy, and knowing the way he is at the groomer's he's probably turned on the yorkie-charm, batted his little yorkie-eyes and probably has every nurse wrapped around his little paw. Thanks again to everyone! |
Speedy recovery to all your babies! The best feeling is having them back in your arms again! I've done it 4 times. And I was a basketcase when Ralphie had stone surgery/neutering/teethcleaning. My son (21) just had Lasik surgery last week...I was nervous, but not as crazy as when my furbabies got neutered/spayed! :D |
Update! My baby is ok! I picked up Ceiba about an hour ago - she is still very groggy and sleeping right now. Her brother (who had been whining all day) immediately wanted to say 'hi' but she wasn't having any of it. She snarled and growled like I've never heard! She is curled up on the couch and her brother keeps licking her face. I think he is trying to watch over her. :) I never want to go thru this agony again! Can't our babies come spayed already?! ;) Well, at least it's over now. She's microchipped (Avid) and spayed. Her incision looks pretty decent - internal dissolvable stitches and skin glue on top. What I DON'T like is the shave job she got on her front leg - guess that was for the heart monitor. Owell - I'd rather her be bald there than anything to have happened to her. Vinnie's Mom - how is Vinnie?! Keep me posted! |
Hi guys! Sorry I missed this post yesterday. I am glad that the news today was good news. I bet you all can't wait for some more yorkie kisses! My little girl is going in on Thursday for her spay. I too am a nervous wreck! She will spend the night on Thursday at the clinic. I wish I had one of the monitors at my house! I will keep you guys and your babies in my thoughts and prayers! :aimeeyork |
