I know. That's just it. At 1 yr old when she was diagnosed, we wouldn't think of "giving her back" even if that offer were true! The first year is when she had the best part of her life! She really got to play and be a puppy! Those are the best memories we have with her....

I kept in touch with Jewel's breeder when we found out she was sick. She always replied to my emails but she never initiated one... Her replies were always sypathetic but I was kind of irked that she never sent me one first just to check in.

Your breeder is heartless. I sure hope she didn't continue to breed either of Lexxie's parents.

But you and I know if we could go back in time and have an opportunity to get Lexxie or Jewel again, we would go through all of it again without a doubt in our hearts.

Again, I am so sorry for your loss of Lexxi. She was very loved, and she's no longer suffering. She loves you and is watching over you now.

I have to say that you have every right to be upset with the breeder...She brought Lexxi into this world, and she didn't even take responsibility for it. In my opinion, the option should not be "give the dog back and I'll give you a new one"....That's just wrong, imo...You fall in love with a puppy almost immediately, you cannot be expected to give it back...What does that solve anyway? I don't think I would want another pup from her if this is the way she acts and doesn't take responsibility for her breedings...At the very least, she could have been sympathetic though...Just a hey, I'm sorry..or something.

Don't worry about this lady anymore...Her attitude is bringing you down, and that's just not fair.

Awwwwww hun...1st of all i would like to say i'm s0o0o0o sowie for your loss poor Miss Lexxi she didn't deserve to live like that....and for the breeder that makes me very upset....me being a breeder as well..i alwayz stand by my babies...no matter how long you have had them for....all they had to do to have avoid this situation was to do all the health screening on both the parents before they even breed them....that's sad that they didn't even stop to say that they were even sorry for your loss or even try to make it right w/ you !! :mad: i can't believe that they didn't even stop breeding the parents or even do the health screen before they continue to breed the parents...*shaking my head* this whole situation just saddens me...it makes us other breeders look bad & ppl wonder why they don't trust ANY BREEDER @ ALL !! :mad:

It's really sad, but unfortunately, like everything else in life, there are good breeders and bad ones. :(

Hopefully, you will have some peace in knowing that you stood by your baby 'til the end, even if the "breeder" didn't.

You all know by now that we put our Lexxi down last Saturday...after struggling for 3 years with hydrocephalus (water on the brain), seizures, she became blind...etc.
I had called the breeder when we first had her diagnosed, via MRI and told her what was going on. She said to me that she'd never heard of hydrocephalus and of course none of her dogs ever had this. She continued to say she could not help us with any of the medical bills but when the time came for us to have to "put her down" she would "replace" her. In the 2.5 years Lexxi fought after that diagnoses, never once did the breeder call or email me to check on her.
After we put Lexxi to rest last weekend, I emailed the breeder and told her what we just went through and told her even though she had offered us another, we just weren't sure if we'd ever be ready. I NEVER GOT A REPLY! Then I emailed again from another email and she wrote this:

You bought your puppy over 3 years ago. I guarantee the puppy for 2 years. That's 2 years after the purchase not any time in the future. No breeder would do that. That is totally unreasonable. I did offer to replace this puppy ( may be a year or more) after you purchased her. You how ever elected to keep her instead of me replacing her.
I feel I have met my responsibility in this case.

I may as well add my original email so you can see that I did not beg her for a dog or for $$ or anything. Yet money was all she addressed in this email. Not once an "I'm sorry for your loss" or whatever!

here is my first email to her:

Hi Charlotte,

This is Trina, I bought one of your babies in 2004 – she is my Lexxi. We spoke some time ago regarding her being diagnosed with hydrocephalus. Lexxi has lost her fight today. She put up a fight for as long as she could and we know that we did everything possible to make her life comfortable. She was a sweet little angel that was robbed a long healthy life. We are so sad today. I can’t even think of a day that has been harder than this one. I am devastated, and my husband too. Its been the hardest thing we’ve ever had to go through.

I know you had told me you’d be willing to replace her when the time came for Lexxi to go, but I can’t say that I am ready for another at this time. We are just in too much pain to think that far ahead, as this only happened today. But I did want you to know what happened and I did want to ask for your prayers for our baby who has reached the rainbow bridge.

Does she look to be after the almighty dollar and not care about her dogs?? I can't believe how cold she is!!!
What do you think? Did I say something I shouldn't have? Did I expect too much?

I am so very sorry about your loss, and it sounds to me like the offer was for whenever your baby girl passed, no mention of a time or time limit! If she runs her business properly I would see nothing wrong with at least reporting her to the BBB (better business bureau). The funny thing is how quick to snottiness and anger she was in her email back, you weren't looking for a replacement and your email even states that! Why so defensive? - that would be my next question to her. Sounds like she may have experienced problems before! When and IF you become ready for another dog, NOT a replacement, no dog ever replaces another, i would not be going to her, and if you find another breeder around her ask if they know anything about her track record!

I just wanted to tell you how very sorry I am to hear about your loss. I have only had my first Yorkie for a little over two weeks and I already know that I would grieve his passing like a family member if anything should happen to you. I think Lexxi was blessed to be in your life for even a short time. You were her angel. I can't even imagine what you had to go through with her illness and passing. Sending little tongue licks from Gizmo as well.[/FONT]

I told her I was on board(s) and I have nothing to hide...she could have asked me which ones as well.
So if she finds "me" I'm prepared for "fake" user names to suddenly and post wonderful lies about her!!!
It's sad that it had to come to this - about me feeling bitter and wanting everyone to know about her. All she would have had to do was say "I'm sorry."

LOL you got that right - funny how all those people suddenly appear when someone posts a bad experience....and you know girl - hearing those 2 words "I'm sorry" carry alot of weight don't they ? I doubt she ever intended to make it right but it's a shame she didn't stop and think about the dogs she's continuing to breed. Sad for Lexxie and sad for the future puppies

She should have atleast offered her condolences for what you went thru, Geez how unkind can ppl be. I know us YT'ers have offered that to you and your family. Trina i'm so sorry for all that you went thru and hope the pain lessens with each passing day!!

I too want it all to be easier...and it is with each day, but then I have those moments, ya know? It's only been just over a week though, I still have to get Lexxi back home with us to really have closure.
People are unkind....that is why YT amazes me at how this community has come together with so many wonderful, caring people - you are truely my "other" family ;)

Even though I did get a terminally ill dog from her, I never shared her name or bad mouthed her....till now - all over her heartlessness...

How sweet you are to ask about Otis, He flunked his post bile acid level at 53. Doesn\'t appear to be high enough for shunt, but possibly MVD/HMD. Right now I\'m trying to decide what further testing he should have and start saving up for it. He\'s started L/D food, and I\'d like to start him on lactulose asap, but the vet initially said she didn\'t think it was necessary. But overall, he\'s doing pretty well. No severe seizures, he just kind of spaces out sometimes.
Thanks again for asking about him. I hope your finding some comfort in knowing you were a good mommy to Lexxi and did everything you could for her.
