Lana Doesn't love me... I got a teacup yorkie two weeks ago named Lana. She is one of the most adorable puppies I have seen in my life. She is lively and energetic. I also have a maltese dog named Lili who seems to be a little jealous of Lana (she used to be an only dog for almost a year). They play together well, but often they start figting with each other. I am very concerned because Lana does not seem to show any affection towards any of us. When we try to pet her she runs away. It is impossible to hold her because she simply wiggles out of our arms. People tell me that this is a part of the yorkie character, but I simply cannot accept this. I want her to love us as much as we love her. I don't know if I am unfairly compairing her to Lili who loves to be loved. Will Lana eventually come around and be more affectionate? Please help a mommy understand her new baby. |
Don't worry - she'll come around!! I was in the same situation. I had Biddy for almost a year before we got Tucker. When Tcuker first came, he didn't want to have anything to do with people. Now, after having him for 3 months, he is my cuddler! It just takes some time. Good luck & welcome to Yorkie Talk!! |
Wow before we got bandit our dog rusty was an only dog for 7 years. and bandit clicked with me perfect. he loved ecveryone else but for some reason he just loved me. then he died. we got a new puppy named tucker he loves everyone and rusty doesn't really care. i'm so sorry i'm sure things will work out. |
I agree.......Don't worry she will come around! How old is Lana? Bunny is almost 5 months and she is very affectionate now, but when we first brought her home at 3mos, she was like a crazy woman going 90mph almost all of the time...the only time she waas affectionate was when she was exhausted. We had the same situation.. I had Tino and he had been an only child for almost a year as well. It just takes a bit for everyone to settle in. |
:wavey: Welcome!! and congratulatons on your new addition!! when I first got Sami at 7 weeks he just about acted the way your baby is! I too have another yourkie Tilly 10 yrs and I think sami was a little afraid & intimidated by new surroundings & a new strange dog! It wont be long before Lana will be attached to you, I sort of carried sami around with me alot and not really pushed sami & tilly togeather until He started to feel at home :) So hang in there she will be so attached before you know it that your next post will be (Help I cant go anywhere without Lana) :D good luck &enjoy your new baby |
Lana is young and has a huge world to explore. She finds now is just too difficult for sitting still to be loved maybe and wants to romp around learning what her new world is all about. Please give her time and have patience, I am sure she will come around and adore you as much as you do her.... |

She just needs time. When Chachi was a little puppy he didn't like to be held either. Hes 5 months old now and is the biggest baby you ever saw. |
Yes, she will come around. Everything is new to her, she doesn't really know you yet. How old is she? Yorkies are so full of energy, I hope mine settles down soon too. She does like belly rubs and snuggles but only about 30 seconds of them then she's off to zooming around the house again. I have a maltese too. Let me tell you I had quite a suprise when I brought Tinkerbell home. Maltese and yorkies are so different personality wise. I was truly not prepared for my new little rascal as my maltese is so calm and gentle and I had never owned a yorkie. I'd love to see a picture of your maltese and yorkie, please post if you can. |
Lana was born in March, and I have had her for two weeks now. She is adorable. She only allows us to hold her when she is about to fall asleep, and she lets us do it for only a few minutes. I truly hope that she will come around. I am used to loving Lili all the time and this is a big change for me. Do you know approximately how long it will be before she gets used to us? |
I just graduated :) I am going for my MBA - still at UCF. It seems like I will be a gold knight forever. |
We've had Bunny for about two months and she is still not a lap dog like Tino. I think it'll take a few months, definitely more than a few weeks. It took two weeks for her to start getting along with Tino! I think there are two issues... 1) when we got our first, they only had us to bond with, so they gave us all of the attention and 2) we are used to our first child that is out of the puppy stage and is more settled, so when we bring this new little wild thing in the house its more of a contrast than when our first was in the puppy phase. p.s....Congrats on your MBA!!! I was thinking MBA, but ended up at Stetson Law in St. Pete! |
Two weeks? Patience, Grasshopper! All good things come to those who wait. Gidget was sooooo aloof when I got her, but 4 months later, I niticed that she started to be my little shadow. Now she is a total momma's dog, and I love it! |
Oh my god... thank you all so much. You have made me feel so much better. I was truly getting worried. It might be a little selfish to want your puppy to love you a great deal, but I can't help it. They are my sunshines and I want to be a bright light in their lives too. |
I feel your pain. We only have one dog, our yorkie, who we adopted in February from a shelter right before her second birthday. She is not much of a cuddler, she doesn't always come when called (unless we have a treat or toy), and she frequently runs away when we try to pet her. I am hoping she will grow more affectionate with time as well. She does love to play though. She will jump up on our laps and paw at our hands to try to get us to play tug-a-war. Also, I know she misses us when we are gone because she refuses to touch her food until we get home. I can even leave her favorite treat lying on the ground for her and she won't touch it until after we get home and she gives us her enthusiastic greeting. |
