1 Attachment(s) I would have to vote "no" to a lion cut. This is what I asked my groomer to do for Gracie. It is a "medium" length puppy cut with a teddy bear face. The body hair is short enough that it does not tangle and is easy to groom, but long enough to still look like a Yorkie. |
Well she's just too cute! |
I don't have pictures to share, but I do have a story! For Thanksgiving two years ago, I had my husband take Lexi to the groomer. I told him before he left with Lexi to have them give her a "teddy bear" cut. He took her, picked her up, and called me to ask if I would like to go to dinner. Strange for him to ask during the middle of the week, but o.k. After dinner he asks if I would like to go shopping (this should have definitely been a clue that something was wrong). Nope, I just want to go home and see my Lexi. I asked how she looked and he said that they may have cut her hair a little shorter than what I wanted. We come home and I take one look at Lexi and just burst into tears. It was horrible! Everytime someone would call I would tell them how bad Lexi looked. Everytime I got on the phone my husband would get up and go outside. Finally, my daugher asked why I hadn't called the groomers and complained. I explained that they are two older ladies and I just didn't want to call when I was so mad, but that I was cooling down and was going to call. My husband tells me that he wants to talk to me. He begins with - "You know how bad my memory is getting. Well, I couldn't remember that you said teddy bear cut, so I told them to cut her like a lion. They asked to make sure that I said lion cut. I told them yes". It took MONTHS for Lexi's hair to grow out. I finally told the groomers the story. They just roared. They said they wondered when he said lion cut, but he stood firm that was the cut that I wanted. The same sweet ladies still groom Lexi and Cricket. Everytime my husband takes them in they ask "Lion cut?" Puppy cut it is and I must say they do a fantastic job!:) |
AHHHHHH I definitely would NOT do a Lion Cut  LOL!!! The Westie's cut is totally adorable...but, lol....no chance I would ever cut my babies hair like a Lion :p |

1 Attachment(s) I have mu dogs cut in a Schnauzer cut. I just ask my groomer to leave the hair a little longer on their head and skirt and cut the ears into a "butterfly" shape! They really do seem to feel a lot cooler and are a lot easier to keep clean and brush! Here is a picture it a liitle hard to see, but hopefully you can get the idea of what I am talking about. Picture is of Buster and Bandit (Pink Jacket). My bosses' babies! |
hello! Tomorrow is the day it all happens. I am going for a westie cut. I have to take the pictures I posted up previously to the groomer to make sure she does what I wany. Oh and I am going to stay there and make sue nothing happends to my baby. It's our first time with this groomer. Can't wait to post the pictures! |
your babies are soo cute! I went for a schanuzer cut before and did not like it, I think it was the groomer I used though.... rrrrr |
Yes...thankfully I have found a wonderful groomer in my area and she gives us a discount, due to the fact that we are always there! Only $20.00 per dog plus and extra $5.00 when they are due for their frontline! I think the trick is finding a groomer you like! Hope all goes well with your babies hair cut, I'm sure it will be adorable! I remember Tommy's first hair cut, I stayed with him too! |

Yes, please do show pictures now that I was out voted on it ;-) |
he looks sooooooooooooo good!!!!! I really like that for him! glad you decided on the westie cut :) |
well, if you ask for a lion cut on a yorkie...it might look quite strange. yorkies' hir does not poof out around the neck like it should on a lion cut. typical dogs that get a lion cut are pomerians, chows, etc. dogs with hair that sticks straight out. Yorkies have hair that falls. You'd be best to just go witha super cute puppy cut if you're wanting a good short cut with a cute rounded head. |
just saw the pictures. haha he looks adorable. glad they didn't do a lion cut! it would have looked very strange! Quote:

I'm not so wild about the lion cuts on Yorkies. I think it makes the body look disproportionately small compared to the head and legs. But that's just my opinion. |
I keep my sheltie in a lion cut, year round because his coat is so much more managable that way.... but he has the head shape and the long bushy tail so he doesnt look "utterly ridicoulous". However I wouldnt keep Tucker in a cut like that because his face is smaller and he doesnt have the tail. SO he is kept in a short body cut and longer hair on his face, similar to some of the pics that were already posted. |
love the cut Quote:
