water......? Hi everyone. As you know we got our puppy Tucker today. Well, he's already showing a love for water by laying down in his water dish. I also know that a lot of yorkies love to swim. I was wondering what age is safe to introduce him to water. We have a little kiddy pool in our back yard for our bigger dog Rusty. But he doesn't like water and is afraid of it. :( Please tell me if you know what age is good to let him in it. :D thank you!!!!! :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork |
I bought Bella a kiddy pool this weekend and just didn't fill it all the way. I think as long as you watch him, the early to introduce something the better |
You could start by letting him play in the bath tub. Yorkies love this and you can get toys that float. Just fill it with a couple of inches of water and watch them have a blast. |
thank you everyone. i've learned that the age doesn't really matter as long as they're not too small. i have one more question. should he have all his shots before he goes in the pool or bathtub? i don't think he needs to but my mom won't let me. |

Hi everyone today we put tucker in like 2 inches of water in the bathtub. he loved it! he had a great time! |
Ohhhhhhh how fun! You should try to get some pics ;) |
OK i will. I have one more question everyone. My mom won't let me put him in the tub at nihgt. its just a little puddle in the tub its not even the whole thing. Its not late either. She said she's worried he'll get a chill. I think she's being a little over protective. Is it possiable that he will get a chill from being in there for a few minutes? And our house isn't cold either. |
Megan, you are such a sweetheart! I think that he might get chilled since he is so little. Maybe you could find another activity to play with him! Then tomorrow you 2 can go "swimming" again in the tub (haha)! |
Thank you. |
Megan you are so lucky that Tucker seems to be a water baby. Gucci hates the water, she fights me like crazy. |
That sounds exactly like my choc. lab mix rusty. i really don't get him becuase he's a lab he's supposed to love the water! lol |
Sounds like you and Tucker had a wonderful time swimming in the bath tub!! Looking forward to hearing more stories!! |
We have a pool and today I put Lily in with me. I held a kick board for her and she stood on it. She was very brave about walking across the floating mats to get were she wanted to be. I really don't think she cared so much about the 'swimming' part of it though. Just want to be where the action was. |
one or two of you asked for pics of the bath for tucker well here they are.... :-) |

Maybe you can add them to the gallery. |
yea it didn't work i'll try with the photo gallary |
Abigail is 15 weeks old and jumps into the Ocean! My male Artie used to go Body Surfing in Cocoa Beach, Florida when he was 3 months old. Abigail is only 15 weeks old and she runs into the Ocean, we live in Myrtle Beach, SC now. I take them to the Beach every morning and she will try to go in every chance she gets, they chase each other through the tide pools. I'm just worried she will drown in the waves during rough/high tide? I'm going to buy her a kiddie pool this weekend, that sounds like a safe idea? :p |
2 Attachment(s) OK i'm gonna try one more time to get a pic of the "water baby" in here lol. if this doesn't work i'll try it in the photo gallary. hope it works......... |
That's really funny because Maggie's breeder told us that Yorkies don't like to get their feet wet. Well, Maggie must be some other breed then, because she loves to get wet. I will lay the water hose on the driveway. She will lay down in the water and drink until she almost wees herself to death. I would think if your baby likes water, then go ahead and set up the baby pool, with only about an inch of water or so. Good idea about the pool. Going to do that for Maggie too. Maybe I can even throw in a bath every once in a while, in the pool. |
