Large Yorkies :aimeeyork :aimeeyork Your pups are beautiful. I too have a 13.5 lb. male 2yr old Yorkie. He was 3.5 at 14wks. I had no idea he would grow so large. He is a beauty but does look like he is on steroids! The vet said the larger the healthier. Glad to see so many larger Yorkies out there. He is solid for sure. Not like the smaller daintier ones. I find it very strange but he has all his papers. He just looks funny when he plays with his Yorkie friends. Looks just like them but much larger! He is wonderful, full of fun and eager to please. Just love them and continue to enjoy them. Good luck. I have been searching for some time for others who have a larger Yorkie and this is the first wed-site I found that had them. I would love to hear stories about the remarks given to you. I had some beauties. |
Here is what I hear all the time... " Oh that's the biggest Yorkie I have ever seen." He's 11 pounds... Big woop, I say! LOVE HIM!;) |
Your yorkies are both adorable, there's a lot to love. Somehow i have always thought that the bigger yorkies have something about them that's FUN... my friend has a 14 pounder and she's a scream! I LOVE to watch her getting into stuff, she's so funny. |
:idontknow BUT MY YORKIE POO IS 8LBS AND SO IS MY YORKIE. I WOULD MUCH RATHER (NOW) HAVE THE LARGER THAN THE SMALLER. SO YOU SEE....LOTS OF POST OF PEOPLE HAVING LARGER YORKIES.:happyw: :happyw: :cf57: |
1 Attachment(s) Just thought I would add our information to this thread. She is so funny I will need o get some more pics of her as I keep having to post this one of them altogether. So sorry if you have seen the photo before. |
My little guy is about 8 1/2 or 9 pounds (watch me get him weighed - and he weighs even more!) Anyway - I was prepared. His mother weighed 13 pounds and his father weighed 4 1/2 pounds - go figure! I was told that he would be between 5 and 10 pounds - which he is. I can't believe it - but my Yorkie at 8 1/2 pounds is still a very tiny little dog. I am thrilled to death with his weight. He can get on and off any furniture with no problems whatsoever. I never have to worry about "stepping on him," and he plays well with other dogs and children and isn't a constant worry. Again - he seems "tiny" to me. He has a slight build with fluffy, wavy, silky hair. I wanted a small dog because I have a bad back and wanted one that I could carry and bathe easily. Well this little guy is perfect for me. It is like lifting "nothing" when I pick him up. He's about 9 months old - I suspect he's pretty much through growing - but then, who knows! Carol Jean |
I have a smaller yorkie, though not tiny , he is definately not huge...but in my constant research of ancient yorkies and origins or yorkies..before the 7 pound breed standard there were the original yorkie dogs...and they were much larger than thier relatives today, one report I read from a yorkshire historical paper documents a yorkie ancestor that weighed 30 pounds ! Used in hunting and coal mining the dog had to be a hearty breed , and he was, and still is, though so much smaller today due to the smaller ones being popular.I wanted a medium to larger one myself as my other dogs are bigger and very boisterous, so I wanted my yorkie to be able to hold his own...though not a large dog Moe does tend to hold his own, in fact so much so that I have found myself having to protect the others from him! Anyways your 2 are beautiful, and have probably got a kick back to the long gone days when the yorkie dog was a medium sized dog! When I got Peanut the Breeder said he would only be about 6lbs as adult. But he grew and grew. Now he is 7months old and 13lbs. We love every pound of him.His brother Thumper is going to be maybe 14lbs to 16lbs as adult.Thumpers Mom is 16lbs and Dad is about 6lbs. So we know he would be large. Peanuts Mom is 5.5lbs and Dad is about 3lbs.We were very surprised! Here are pictures of our 2 teapots Thumper and Peanut Take Care Sondra:yorkiesar |

I heard Hubby tell someone the other day that Dublin's bigger because he's from Ireland and they make them bigger over there. I think I'll start making up some good stories for when people ask...:p |
My groomer told me she thinks my 10lb Chachi is a silky. She compared him to Jewels who is 6 lbs and said he is so much bigger than her and has a longer nose. Chachi is definitely a yorkie. We got him and Jewels from the same breeder. I have always read posts where people speculating on whether someones big yorkie was actually a yorkie and now it happened to me. Oh well I love Chachi all the same. |
