Thank you all for sharing your stories. This is a wake-up call for all of us, not to become too comfortable outdoors with our precious pets. I find myself hovering over my two boys outside now and sadly they can't enjoy their life running around like larger dogs. |
Oh Ellie how sad about your Yorkie! I feel so bad for you and how hard this must of been for you. I just can't imagine how horrible this was for you. I would of also been screaming if that happened to Tasha. I have also wondered about owls if they can be a problem to small dogs? Joyce |
Yesterday I was sitting on the patio with my little Zoey, who at 6 mos weighs 6 lbs.... and I saw this HUGE turkey vulture swoop down and circle directly overhead, low. Thank goodness Zoey was sitting next to me under the table, but just seeing that gigantic vulture was frightening, much less the thought of it scarfing up my baby. I always thought vultures only ate carrion, but this one was apparantly very interested in my doggie. And believe me, the size of that bird could have easily carried all 6 lbs of Zoey away. That was a real wake up call for me to be ever so vigilant when I have Zoey outside. Zoey's mom, Viv :aimeeyork :animal-pa :aimeeyork |

Here was another thread about Hawks.....so scary!!! http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76789 |
i have been hearing and seeing alot about this happening since i got romeo! and i read the other thread about this happening a few weeks ago. i can not begin to imagine the pain of this happening. |
OMG!!!!! I know of a story, and I know it's true of an eagle taking a chihuahua a couple years on a sandbar on the river. I had not thought of the hawks and turkey vulchers!!! I have hawks around here, that land a lot on my evergreens. I have a pet door that my dogs can go out whenever they like and they like to sit out on the deck in the sun in the afternoon!!! NOW I am afraid!! And my little Angel Baby is only under 2#. I think I am going to go block the pet door RIGHT NOW!!! |

Funny that I read this thread at work this morning, and when I was driving home this afternoon I saw 2 hawks circling above my neighbourhood. We live in the suburbs, and have seen hawks in my region....but never in my neighbourhood! This would be a tragic way to lose a pet...I could never forgive myself if it happened to me. |
I have only seen one hawk around my neighborhood, and that was 2 years ago. But I am seeing HUGE crows. And the other day we were driving down the street and noticed one had a baby rabbit in it's mouth. I was horrified. My babies are always by my side. |
I would never have though anything about the hawks and my yorkie, we live in a suburban neighborhood on a lake and the other day I saw a hawk perched on my fence, I was enthralled with him and wanted a picture, never thinking he was watching my baby Leo, then today my dog ran down to the lake and all of a sudden that hawk came circling around and by the time I reached the dog (running at full speek) the hawk swooped down. Needless to say my 4.1 lb yorkie would not have known what hit him! It was so scary. Now I am going to sadly have to put him on a leash to take him in the back yard :( He loves to play with the soccer ball too. |
I had an encounter with my yorkie and a circling hawk today. My 4.1lb yorkie would not have know what hit him. It was really scary. |

Oh my!! How scary!! My husband says the best thing to keep a hawk away is to run at them with your arms moving. I know that there has been previous posts about this with numerous suggestions. You may look for them. Keep your baby safe!! |
