Hello, I'm new! Hello everyone! I'm new to this site and i'm a new mommy of a yorkie for the first time. my baby is baby bear you can see a pic of him on the photo gallery! he is 12 weeks old on saturday! i'm excited to be a part of your community! Question: should bears ears be standing up by now?? i'm concerned! |
Hello and welcome to YorkieTalk. This is a great place to be. My cosmo's eas do not stand up and he is 13 weeks old. Some people clip the hair on the ears and it takes some weight off and they stand up. |
...And we here at Yorkie Talk are excited to have you!! Give your baby time for the ears to stand. It can take a while...No need to worry. Look forward to hearing many happy stories from you about Baby Bear! :aimeeyork |

Welcome! Congrats on your baby! Your whole life is just gonna get better and better from all of the love that you will get from your little boy! As far as the ears...Yep.. if he is 12 weeks...you gotta get those ears shaved backs and fronts, and plucked inside. Start giving him a little cottage cheese each day for calcium. They probably won't pop right up, but after a few days they should come up. Good luck! |
Welcome to YT your pups a cutie..My pup is 17 weeks and her ears does up and down. Right now they are down.. tommorow they may be up again.. :lol tears |
Awwww!you guys are so sweet! Thank you for replying! I will not worry then that his ears aren't up yet. I was looking at other pics on the site and alot had ears up so that's why i got worried. thank you for easing my mind. Staci- thanks for looking at his picture and sending me the link!! |
Welcome.. some breeders owners tape the ears. I've always found that vitamins with calcium. I also feed them cottage cheese. they are teething and that takes calcium away from their ears. |
Ok, I think i'll try giving him cottege cheese then. I had never heard of that before! :) Thanks! |

Peanut's ears were both up when he was about 3 months old, then they fell back down when he was about 4 months old. I found out later that to help keep their ears up you have to shave the top 1/3 of the ears, inside and out and keep them that way. The groomer actually shaved them all the way down the first time, and they popped right up! I would recommend having the tips shaved sooner rather than later just to make sure that they will stay up. Hope this helps! Congrats on your new baby!! SOOOO cute!! :) |
Baby Bear looks so snuggly, so sweet. :) |
I also rub my pups ear for circulation. |
AYork- I shaved the whole ear too the first time! I was so freaked out that they were never going to come up again! I waited and waited and nothing, so I took him to the groomer finally and just told them to "'strip 'em! take it ALL off!" Voila! He looked like himself again! p.s. I am not saying anything about yorkies that keep their ears down, so no offense anyone! I think they are adorable! For me it was just my preference! If those little buggers wanted to be down, then I would've love my little Tino just as much as I do now! |
Wow you guys are awesome! I have had his ear hair trimmed twice. today he got his first hair cut and i was freaking out cause he looked funny! but they trimmed his ears so hopefully that will help. Thanks for the complement Breeze...he is snuggly when he's not being a stinker! haha And congrats on your new puppy!! Maggie and Maddie are both cute names! Your puppy was the first pictures i saw last weekend on this site. Your baby looked so tiny and her ears were ALREADY up so i was worried there was something wrong with bears ears. :) but everyone reasurred me that there isn't. Yorkiegirl2- your so funny! lol at least every morning you get a new suprise whether your babys ears are up or down. haha keeps ya excited! and i'll start trying to massage bears ears too! thanks! |
Congratulation on your new baby and welcome to YorkieTalk!! We're glad you've joined the group ;) Your little guy is sooo cute, he does look like a baby bear :D My name is Jennette, I have 2 yorkies, Missy is 11mo old and Max is 10mo old. |

Amanda and Baby Bear Welcome to YT. You will love it here, everyone is so nice and helpful. Your baby is so adorable and cute, he looks like a teddy bear. I love his name. Regarding the ears, like everyone said shaving the hair on the ears will help. But he looks so cute with his ears down anyway. Congrats. :) |
Welcome, Amanda & Baby Bear!! Bear is aborable ... he has the brightest most inquisitive eyes! I love Yorkie eyes ... I can tell a lot about our Toto through her eyes. Don't worry about those ears ... Toto's breeder was already trimming the upper 1/3 of the leathers when we got her at 16 weeks and she told us that they had just popped up ... so Bear has plenty of time before Mom starts to fret!! :) Toto will be 2 next month and we still are as amazed as we were the first time we saw her!! You have lots of fun in store!! ;) Hope the two of you enjoy it here! |
Hello and welcome to Yorkietalk! |
Zowie's ears popped up around 12 weeks and Bronx did not. I never trimmed Zoe's ears until she was around one - she had this adorable gismo look - She would hold them out sideways with all that hair hanging down. My kids had a fit when I trimmed them. Bronx ears are still down, but I love them that way, and it is how everyone tells them apart - they look completely different to me in every way. I think I could get them to stand if I wanted - who knows. |
Welcome to yorkie talk!!!! |
Welcome to YT! Congrats on your new baby! |

Daisy's ears are up now but I'm sure when she starts to teeth they will flop one day and be up the next. I really love it when their little ears are floppy, too cute! I agree with everyone else you have nothing to worry about and your little sweeties ear will stand up too. But for now enjoy how cute they are floppy. :) Daisy sends yorkie kisses to Baby Bear! |
Sophie's vet said they usually stand up by themselves, but to be certain they do, you could tape them....he thought no earlier than 8 weeks. He taped Sophie's ears when she was 9 weeks. He said it only takes 6 days of being taped up for the cartlidge to firm up and then they should always stand up. It definitely worked! Sophie looked so funny with her ears taped up. She looked like batman. I think there's a picture of it my photo album. It was taken with a camera phone, so it's probably not clear. :) |
You all certainly make a new mom feel welcome. I look forward to getting to know you and your yorkies better. I have started giving Bear cottege cheese once a day to see if that helps the calcium for his ears. Thank you all for your advice and words of comfort about his ears, I'm not going to worry about them for quite a while. :) p.s. baby bear sends yorkie kisses to daisy!! :kiss2wm: |
