do they not have a leash law in your state?? Here dogs that are allowed to roam are picked up by animal control and the owners are cited and have to appear in court..so all that has to be done is a phone call..You should look into it..I would be scared to walk my baby around that dog because you never know!!!!

Yeah, we have a leash law. It's tricky, we live out in the country in a pop-up neighborhood where a field use to be. There are only a handful of houses here and since we are temporary residents --crew housing--while we are building, I don't want to make waves. (Anyone want to buy a house in NH?)

They all work during the week so the dog is inside--it's just on the weekends or evenings.

I'm still shaking.... ok here what happen about a hour ago or so. We were taking our normal walk with my mother in-law (and Baliey, her little yorkie) and just said our good-buys by the park not too far away from our house.(We normally walk them home, but Sadie was acting like she was done and didn't want to walk anymore.) On Sat me and my little girl was out on a another walk and a BIG husky came acrose the street to us. I picked her up, and the owner came over. We had a nice little talk, they have a yorkie too. He was saying that his husky was nice and wouldn't harm Sadie, and he's really Good with their yorkie.(I still wasn't to sure )Well, on our way home we ran into his wife with this so called nice Big husky. She was asking about Sadie and how big she was and that's when he did it. He grabbed her up (they weren't even near each other) by her little head and started to shake her. I feel so bad, like a bad mom, I didn't know what to do, I wanted to hit him,but I thought he would bit me...(and I would never hit a dog) But I really didn't know what to do. The other owner was polling him back, I still had her leash in my hands. I was yelling at her to make him let my baby go. She yelled back that she didn't know what to do, I thought my baby was DEAD. She finally went flying, I grabbed her as fast as I could. Thankfully she was not bleeding. We ran home, I was crying and a mess. My mother in-law helped me look her over, It looks like he got her by her top not.
There's NO punture wounds, she's lost a lot of fur on her little head but she is acting ok. I'm still thinking we might take a trip to the vet's, just for a piece of mind. She really is my little baby and I don't know what I would do if anything would happen to her!!!! Please everyone be careful on your walks, you never know what could happen.:animal-pa
Sorry if there's mis-spelling, can't think.....Still a mess

Any updates on Sadie's condition? When I read earlier, she was thought to be OK - but then I read tonight where she was taken to the vet. Prayers going up for her.................

Sadie

I am so sorry to hear about Sadies experience. My little one had an experience with a black lab who was not tied and came charging out of his driveway when we were walking by on the sidewalk. Before I could grab her, he had grabbed her and shook her and flung her up in the air. I brought her to the vet's and she was bruised up but no bite marks thank god. Unfortunately it did traumatize her and she does not like big dogs at all and it takes her a while to warm up to small dogs as well. I know that it affected her as her first boyfriend was a rotweiller/doberman mix and he weighed 125lbs and they loved each other dearly. He went to the rainbow bridge before the black lab incident.

I would definitely take her to the vet for a check up just to be sure. If I had to do it all over again I would have exposed Bella to big dogs again right away but since Fred had passed over I did not have a big dog to trust to do that with so I did not pursue it. I wish I had. But ask the vet what he/she thinks.

I am glad to hear that Sadie is okay.

Good luck,

Jay

:)

As I was reading this story I started to cry! It absolutely mortified me! The thought of another dog doing that to a precious little yorkie baby is soo scarey! It also made me realize that I am WAY too negligent with bailey. I NEVER think to pick her up when she sees another dog... I always let her sniff and jump all over the other dog, not realizing how dangerous this can be. Thank you and everyone else who posted about their similar experiances with their babys.... I didnt realize how dangerous other dogs can be, especially since my bailey is not even 2 lbs.... I will def. be more cautious now!

back from vet

Sorry it has taken so long to get back to you all (was just making sure Sadie was comfortable Before doing anything else tonight) The Vet. looked her over and said that we are lucky! They had to shave her head completely down so they could see how bad she was punctured. There's a few more than I thought, but only one is really bad. They gave us some meds. for it and also some pain meds. too. We have to keep an eye (or two) on her for the next couple of day, they said she could have more head trauma (brain swelling) that we can't see. This would caused by the shaking. But so far she does not show any signs of these:) The Vet also said that her top-not may have been what saved her. I had mention to the Vet. that I didn't know what to do, said if these should ever happen again kick the dog as hard as you can under the chin. I asked if this would kill the dog, she said no, it would take it's wind way. (I still would be afraid, I'd miss, it would bit me, I don't know)But it's good info. to have. I did call animal control, had to leave a message, Hope they call back first thing in the A.M (or I will call again) I went to the Huskies house after we got home, there was nobody there. So I spoke to the neighbor, they said that they had heard that this "nice" dog has actually killed another dog. I'm so thankful that it seems that she will be ok. I will get some Pic. of Sadie out tomorrow so you guys can see her little head. It won't be until the late afternoon, but I will let you see her little head. We had planned to go the Yorkie Fair, but with her little head looking a mess I'm not sure now.Thank you all for you prayers and thoughts, It has helped a lot!!!!
I will up-date again tomorrow afternoon. Let's all hope (pray) for a good night.

Thanks again!!!!!!!

I'm so thankful to hear the good news - if you can say there is anything "good' about this horrible situation. Give her a kiss for me and thank goodness it looks like she will be OK - if not bald for a while.

I'm so sorry this had to happen, you must be very very upset!

PANAMA69 05-08-2007 07:52 PM

Poor baby so glad that she is fine, will keep sending prayers to your way:hands:

Will be praying for your baby until we hear she is ok; balder, but ok. Sometimes people refuse to believe that their dog is capable of terrible damage to our little guys; but we know, and have to be so careful all the time. I am so sorry for the terror you must have felt. Please keep us informed of her progress, we really do care you know:)

YorkieTime07 05-08-2007 08:02 PM

Glad to know that she is being taken care of !!! My prayers go out to you and Sadie!!! Glad you called animal control!! and please follow up with them, if this nice dog hurt another dog in the past, animal control may have a record of that too if the owner reported it, if not please mention it to them!!! And the vet bill should definetly go to the NICE dog's Nice owner who should be very NIce and pay the Bill for his so called Nice dogs' actions!!!! Nathan sends licks to sadie and says be well!!!
