Help, what should I do?
 

I live in the UK and a few months ago a young couple moved into our street. The wife is disabled and relies on an electric weelchair, her husband is able bodied, they have a beautiful Yorkshire Terrier and they all look so sweet when out walking it together, however today the husband was out alone walking the dog and something he did absolutely stunned me to the point I was nearly hystericaly crying, he gave the dog a few hard kicks for no reason (as if there should be any reason to kick a dog to start with), the poor little thing yelped as he kicked it, once in the ribs and twice on the behind. I screamed at him to stop but he didnt hear me as he turned the corner to go into his house. Now I have a dilemma, I don't know what to do about it because Im afraid that if I cause a stir and go and knock on the door or report them that it might make the wife Ill, I think she suffers from cystic fibrosis and a shock might make her even worse, its obvious the dog is hers and for some reason he begrudges walking it. I was thinking about sending an anonymous note saying that if I see it happen again I will report him next time but Im terrified of the wife becoming Ill with the shock of knowing her husband does that to her dog and that it will be my fault for causing her to become Ill. Im really upset at the moment, my Yorkie died just before xmas and it just broke my heart that someone could do that to a tiny defensless dog. Any suggestions would be welcome.:(

I'd report him in a minute....the little ones life may depend on it....I've seen yorkies with broken jaws and broken bones from being kicked.

I don't know how good the laws are over there, but I'd at least try...

Just think how that woman would feel if the dog died because that SOB kicked it!

I would also have to report it. I couldn't live with myself if something happened to that little baby. Just look deep in your heart and do what you know is the right thing.

I would report him. These little dogs can't take that kind of abuse, and it could mean the dogs life.

I think this is a delicate situation.if the husband would dare hurt this little dog while walking him I bet the abuse doesn't stop there.I would be concerned about the wife also because abusive behavior with animals almost always include abuse toward people.so now you have two dilemmas tell and possibly cause the dog and wife harm or sit back and wait for something to happen.I would start with an anonymous letter and call an animal agency and or protective services in to help her.I say this because I had a neighbor who was abusive to animals as a child as he became older the abuse got worse then he moved on to people and was caught terrorizing the neighborhood.(hiding in places shooting passerby with bb guns and killing their animals and putting them on their door step)all started with just hitting animals.lots of people were questioned and the authorities informed us that this is how the behavoir starts.the young man was well spoken,well dressed, educated and seemingly nice to everyone.so I think its a matter of what will benifit both as I think it has to be spilling over.are you willing to keep an eye out for her too and report this if she seems hurt.be-careful!!!

I would find a bigger man and next time the guy is outside send that bigger man over there, have the guy get down on all 4s and now, have the bigger guy kick him in the gut and behind HARD and see how it feels..Ok, that is a fantasy...I hear your delima but right now your concern is a dog that can't speak or defend itself. I would either approach the man, or call your authorities, they might not be able to do anything because it is hearsay that you saw this. I happen to be very outspoken and sometimes too bold, I probably would have headed right over to the house and asked the man to step outside and share my thoughts with him. Keep your eyes open, that poor baby...sometimes human animals make me ill!!!

I agree with Jouney. Animal abuse and abuse of children and the elderly or those who are disabled go hand in hand. Do you have an agency such as the ASPCA or the Humane Society. I would definitely make some kind of report. :(

Thanks for your replies, I was so angry that I wanted to go out and confront the guy but I don't know what he would have done or said to me, my husband is working away this week so I am alone too and had no one to back me up. Ive taken a look at the RSPCA website and to be honest I have no proof that this guy actually did anything to his (his WIFES) dog, cruelty to the animal has to be proven either through photographs, video evidence, witnesses etc. I will certainly be keeping an eye on him in the future, it scares me that appearances can be so deceptive, he looked like such a kind man, a lovely couple. Next time I will get evidence, I only hope there wont be a next time!

Report him to RSPCA(i LIVE IN THE UK TOO) and they will be able to handle this kind of situations. Please do not let that poor yorkie be kicked again. They have a life as well. I know this is a hard one but you do have to think of that poor little guy.

Maybe befriend the couple/wife and then offer to walk the dog for her. Eventually maybe you'll get to keep it. :D

His wife needs to know about that... i think writing an aynonomouys<(Spelling) letter is a really good idea!!! He can not get away with that... who knows what else hes done to that poor baby!!!!

Anyone that would hurt a little dog would hurt a defenseless woman in a wheelchair. You'd not be doing her any favors to withhold what you know. Caregivers get overwhelmed and he's probably at the end of his rope.

personally i would have went and told her myself that day or at the very least say something to him about it thats just senseless abuse he could kill taht dog
