Now under 2lbs... Awwe crap...Chloe is now under 2lbs. In fact, she's only 1lb 14oz meaning she lost 4oz. She hasn't been eating well since we brought her home, we had just found a food that she liked and then it was recalled (Chicken Soup - wet) :( :thumbdown . Now we found a dry food that she loves! She inhales it, but she will only eat about 1/8 cup per day. I put 1/4 in her bowl at a time in hopes that she'll eat it all but she always stops when it's pretty much half gone. Then, I try to feed her for a second time and most of the time she won't eat it, sometimes she may eat a few pieces of kibble. Ugh. I tried homecooking...she doesn't like it. Not even chicken & rice??? I even tried lamb!!! She would sniff the plate, lick it, then run away. *Sigh* Just venting, thanks for listening...if you have any tricks to get them to eat a little more I'd appreciate it! |
Cottage Cheese mixed in or a bit of plain yogurt might help. Good luck to you. |

Thanks. Tried it, though, I tried mixing in peanut butter too :( |
Peeka went through a fase like this when he was little i bought about 5 different foods and tried them but the one he decided he liked was royal canine mini puppy 33 and Daisy was on eukanuba and she instantly took to the RC she didn't want the Euka after she tasted the RC lol. you can try some of those chicken baby sticks in the baby food isle also. |

LOL Chloe ate Eukanuba at the breeders & then Mommy mixed Royal Canin in w/ that to switch her slowly and that first piece of RC to hit her lips marked the end of the Eukanuba lol. Now she literally turns up her nose at it. No way in heck is she eating that stuff  But now she won't eat RC either... I stuck a chicken breast in the food processer for a while until it came out in little tiny balls...she won't even touch that. What are the chicken baby sticks? Are they made by Gerber?? Thanks! |
How old is Chloe?? My Tiffy is exactly the same weight but she is 10 months old so she eats puppy formula mixed with grammy's pot pie (both Merricks) and she inhales it! |

She'll be 6 months on Monday. I haven't tried Merrick's...is that a high quality? She loves the food she's on (Orijen puppy), she inhales it, she just doesn't inhale enough of it LOL |

Thanks! I'll try that!! |
Awww Sara, I hope you find a food that she likes. Does she drink plenty of water? She'll do just find, you'll see. I think if she didn't eat anything at all, then you should worry. Keep us posted girl. |
when you make homemade food, what do you flavor it with? Zoe gobbles homemade stuff on days she snubs her nose at dry or canned food. |
Why dont you try getting a couple of small jars of baby food (liver, lamb, beef, chicken) and mixing that in w/her food. It worked for me! Good Luck!:aimeeyork |

Thanks :) Well, I'm not really sure how much water she actually drinks, but she seems to drink enough...she doesn't have any signs & symptoms of dehydration...I'd say she goes through a 500mL bottle of water in about a week, but some of that evaporates, too. She loves the food she's on now, just doesn't have much of an appetite. She's not sickly or anything...it's just that she's lost those 4oz and at her size we can't really afford to lose that. |

I didn't flavour it w/ anything in fear that it was bad for her. I boiled a chicken breast & stuck it in the fridge for a while so I could skim the fat. Then I used that broth to make rice w/ carrots in it & I put the chicken in a food processer. Then, I mixed the chicken really well into the rice/carrots. She ate a few bites & that was it. Did pretty much the same thing with lamb, extra lean ground beef, and ground turkey. What are some safe things I can use? I'd prefer to homecook and use 1/2 the kibble 1/2 "real" food. Thanks!! |

I'll try that, thanks :) |

They stink to high heaven, but I remember the kids I nannied for absolutely inhaling those things! |
You might want to give her some NutraCal to help supplement her diet while she's going through this. I will definitely give her energy and all the vitamins she needs... Hope she get to eating better.... |

I was looking for some, but I don't think they sell it in Canada...I can't find it anywhere  I did mix some sugar into her water... |
We buy it in bulk (5 yorkies). I would be happy to send you a tube if you think it might help.... |
I would definitely get some Nutrical for her. Have you tried Nature's Variety raw food? My boyz absolutely love it and it has put a little weight on Jo. |
hmm....Have you tried just giving her plane chicken, plain scrambled egg, yogurt, or boiled egg mixed in her food or just by its self to see if she will eat it? maybe she dose not like it mixed with her food?? Just a thought.... My Bunny will eat anything, but if you mix it in her food (like egg) she will not eat it. Hope your able to find something she likes and will eat a lot of. Olivia, Bunny & Bella |
Reading about all these home cooked meals makes me laugh. I don't "cook" on a daily basis for my canine kids cuz they have high quality food and they eat it just fine. I do cook for my Parrot however, and I make the food in advance for each week, and the house will smell so good and my husband will always get kinda jealous and say..is that HUMAN food or BIRD food?!!! Of course, its always bird food!!! :) The things we do for our animal kingdom babies!!! Kathy:) |
try some cottage cheese and american cheese too. I cook my rice using HERB OX low sodium Chicken broth and when its boiling I add my rice and then mixed in my chicken. ( it come in box with 6 or 8 packets in it) The girls love it. |
Bella wouldn't eat...EVER I tried all kinds of food. So then I started Beneful puppy version, and mix in some rice or chicken periodically as a treat. She eat's like a piggie now. Withing minutes the bowl is gobbled up. Give it a try. |
OOOh I know how you feel !!! Have you tried feeding her a bottle of the powdered supplement you mix with the doggie formula!! I can't for the life of me remember the name of it but i am sure someone here will.. That is what was fed to Nathan when he was born due to his not being able to suckle from his mommy. and that gave him all the nutrients he needed to gain weight cause he was really small and although he is small now and maybe guessing 3 lbs tops he is healthy!! (vet visit in 2 weeks!! for real weight) I will say a prayer for the baby !!! |
do you give her a supplemental vitamin like Nutri Stat?? Nathan gets some every day and when he sees the tube he gets excited so i guess it taste good..good for all their nutrients and since i am told yorkies are finicky eaters it supposedly increases their appetite!! I see your in Canada so if they don't sell it there try an online pet supplier or i would be more than glad to send you a tube or two..it will last you for at least 2 months or so..let me know!!! Anything to help her gain some weight!! |
Good luck. I hope that tiny baby starts eating more. Maybe the picky eating will be a phase she'll grow out of. |
