my neighbor does it,too - yorkie abuse!! i feel so sorry for this little girl! i know there are some other Ms posters here - hi girls!!:D - so they can tell you,too that the weather has gotten very, very warm here in the last weeks. we are in the mid 80's and my stupid, stupid neighbor has a yorkie that she puts outside in the morning and leaves outside ALL DAY LONG!! this is only on the weekends when she is not at work. the poor dog scratches at the door to be let in but she is either gone or inside and does not see or care! i saw her yesterday trying to find some shade in the yard to sit in and i almost cried. :( it was so sad to see her in such distress. i don't understand people at all - they love to brag to everyone how they have a yorkie and what they paid for them but they then treat them like they are disposable and not at all important. i'm trying to figure out what to say to her to give her a clue about this because it is only going to get hotter here but everything i want to say has a *$&#* and a #*&! word in it!!:D |
Why not call animal control and report her? |
I let Hannah outside when the weather is nice out but I leave the patio doors open so she can come in and out when she wants. She gets sooo hot and thirsty when she is out there for just a little while. She comes in every 30 mi or so and gets a drink (even though I have a bowl of water outside too) and lays on the hardwood for about 5- 10 min, and then she will go back out and play some more. That is so sad. Maybe you could just tell your neighbor that you heard on YT about a yorkie that died of heat exhaustion by being left outside all day in the hot weather and you just wanted her to know...just a little white lie to help the yorkie.... |
good idea genie - and without any "you big #@*$&!!" at all!!:D the next time i see her i will do that. it's not like it could not happen, right!;) i went over to that side of the property to peek into her yard and i did not see anything with water in it for her at all and we were outside most of the day yesterday enjoying the weather and grilling. romeo is just like your hannah - he is in and out the house too many time to count during the day to get water and rest inside then he wants to go back out. we never ever just leave him out there! |
I wouldn't leave the out there either. Actually as the weather gets warmer it is quite possible that he could die being left out there. Is she a complete idiot or something? Maybe she doesn't realize how dangerous it is, so the little story might open her eyes. |
please dont wait any longer in trying to figure out what to say to them.. what you said to us, you say to them.. just them the gods honest truth about what you feel and the harm its doing to that little girl.. my butt would of been there alrealy...go go go |
Maybe Just tell her that her baby scratces at the door and she trys to find shade. Let her know that they are very fragile and can go down hill in a hurry if they are not taken care of and if she is not willing to take care of the pup then you would be more than willing to take the Yorkie of her hands or help find it a home. |
I'd leave a note on their door first and tell them how you feel and what that poor yorkie is going thru out there and say that you're a concerned citizen and heard they keep a yorkie outside all day. That poor little girl - that's really sad. She must be so lonely |
Just be blunt (minus the extra words) I am sure she would not like being left outside all day in the heat. Regardless of the breed that is cruel and maybe you should consider contacting your local aspca! People are just dumb!!!!:thumbdown |
it just makes me sooooo mad that she just loved to tell me about her yorkie and show it off - this is the same neighbor that when my husband asked her for info on where she got her because he wanted to get me one she made up every excuse in the book not to tell him because she did not want me to have one! so i don't really care for her - it is the dog that i am concerned about. i am sure i will see her today because she usually lets her out once she get home and if romeo is out he runs to the fence so they can talk! LOL i am going to say something to her about it TODAY. if if the heat doesn't get her attention i will pull out the big guns - the HAWKS that we sometimes see flying around. if that doesn't make her change her ways then she doesn't care at all about the little girl! |
How about telling her that you heard her yorkie barking and you just looked to check to make sure everything was alright and noticed she did not have water as it was so hot and you brought her some as you noticed she was not home and you were sure it was an oversight on her part as she is a Yorkie owner like You and knows the danger of leaving pets outside with no water and shade in the heat!!maybe she will get the hint that people are watching and she will be a little more careful!!! I feel so bad for that baby!! Fortunately I have a screened in front porch so Nathan can go outside when he wants and play on the porch and get a good breeze and be protected and he comes in and out for his water and food!! Wow what is on her mind!!!! :) LOL |
Sometime if you tell stupid people that they are doing something wrong they get all defensive and keep doing it anyway just to be spiteful. Plus you don't want to have tension with your neighbor. I like the idea of putting a note on the door about the hot weather. You could make flyers about the dangers of leaving small pets in the hot weather and put them in all your neighbors mail boxes so it doesn't look like you are singling her out, they don't even have to know it was you that made the flyers. |
Are you home usually most the day? Maybe you could offer to dog sit for her. Maybe she'll end up just sort leaving her there longer and longer and... :D you could keep her or find her a new home. |

exactly!! and she is a miss "i know it all" anyway so nothing you tell her is any good! no subject can be raised that she does not know anything about. i will let you guys know what happens when i talk to her - whenever that is. but i am not going to hold my breath that she will listen! this is the same woman that when one of her boyfriends - yes i said "one" of - comes over she sends her DAUGHTER outside to play until he leaves!! :thumbdown so we don't expect her to have any more sense when it comes to a puppy. tiggerwit - yes i am a SAHM but she would never go for that! |

yea genie - that is why my husband said i would be wasting my breath but i feel like i have to try and say something! |

I like this suggestion. I think that the "nice" approach is best, at least initially. If you act confrontational right away, it will put her on the defense, and not help her to see the error of her ways. The idea here is to help the poor dog, and you have the best chance of accomplishing that if you act concerned not judgemental. |
I agree you should go over and tell her about how fragile they are and she shouldn't leave her out there all day also tell her about YT had I not found this site I wouldn't know better :) |
don't worry ladies - i know you catch more flies with honey ;) and i do want to make sure that little girl has better care. that is what is most important so it would work better with her attitude if i didn't jump all over her! :D |
Good luck and I agree....the nice approach is a good way to start - if that doesn't work - get her to sign up here on YT. The Yorkie MAFIA will set her straight....:D |

LOL!!! i love it!!! |

Trust me, I know how difficult it can be sometimes to NOT totally jump on her and tell her how it should be common sense! I am currently dealing with a pet store situation and have to be the best actress in the world and play nicey nice, even though they make me so mad I want to SCREAM at them!! But the dogs interest is our first priority!!! |

exactly!!! if she was locked outside all day in the heat i would not care!!:p |
Please keep is posted on what happens!!!:( |
tell her There is a dognapper loose in the area and you wanted to tell her bc you see her baby outside alone sometimes for long hours and you are afraid she will lose her baby! appeal to HER... if you dont you'll get shot down by her, she'll get defensive and probably defiant. I think if you tell her she could lose something of hers, it sounds more like you are helping her. Tell her about how 'hot' yorkies are right now and there is always a story on the news or online about them being stolen, from yards, cars, homes, etc... maybe she'll be more watchful of her baby! |

Good luck! |
I think I would offer to keep her if your there, also, you may suggest she be left in the garage if that is an option. Sometimes after hard play, Otis likes to stay in the garage and lay on the cool floor. Good luck with this. Poor baby. At the very least I would try to smuggle some cool fresh water in if it's possible. |
just another thought, I happen to own a black jacket, ski mask, and a leash, and I'm very quick and nimble. |
This is so sad! Are you able to yorkie sit for her? If you are, then maybe you need to go to your neighbor and make her a offer to sit with the yorkie while she is gone. Just a thought. |
