Have you ever called off work for your pet? I don't mean called off and said you're sick, I mean actually called off and said your pet was sick?:D How many jobs or supervisors or customers for those self employed members would understand? I've had people call off saying their dog was sick in the past so I did it today. I've also had people call off for a few days after their ferret or dog died. After giving my two their medicine for one's leg and the others gland problem, I wanted to watch over them today so I called off. I kinda warned the employees yesterday that Kamari hurt her leg. So today I called and said she was still limping and I wanted to make sure they were ok.:animal-pa Hope they are not mad at me. |
I've done that before with no problems. Our dogs are our CHILDREN. Just as a mother would take off from work for her human child, so would I take off from work for my poochies! |
I've done that everytimes a little one was sick . |

Yes I have called in and took a vacation day instead of lying and calling in sick. My boss understands because he's a dog lover also. Our dogs are our children afterall, right? |
:aimeeyork Well when i first got Rocky last year at my previous job my boss was so cool i got him on a Saturday but he was crying all night saturday and sunday so i called her and told her i wasnt able to come in on monday cause i hadnt slept all night cause of him she was so excited i got him she didnt mind. Then in the summer i live approximatley 30 min away from my job well that's how long my commute is into the city. One day in the summer i forgot to leave the A/C on and it was a hot day so i asked her if i can go home for lunch to turn it on and that i might be a little late coming back and she said that was fine anything for Rocky. When i mentioned him all the girls including my boss would chant his name. Rocky :aimeeyork Rocky :aimeeyork Rocky :aimeeyork |
Wow, I don't think anyone I worked for would of taken that well, I would of been in trouble for that! :( |

Rocky :aimeeyork Rocky :aimeeyork Rocky :aimeeyork[/QUOTE] They are like our kids, if they were a bigger dog or different breed, I wouldn't worry as much. But they are so little and I just can't leave them without knowing they are ok. My mom lives upstairs and checks on them, but not like I do.:D I'm LOL at them chanting Rocky, I bet they said Rocky is spoiled rotten. But they will never understand until they own a Yorkie! lol |
I've done it a few times.. the last was about a month ago when Kayah sounded like she was choking.. so I stayed up all night to make sure nothing happens to her.. called in.. told them what happened.. and told them that I was going to the vet.. didn't seem to mind:rolleyes: |
I've never called in and told my boss I had to take the day off because a pet was sick - but I would in a heartbeat if Ferdinand was sick. I think my boss would be fine with it. Of course, I can work from home as well if I needed to and I know not everyone has that luxury. Now, if I forgot to turn on the A/C on a hot day, I don't know that it would go over very well if I told my boss I needed to go turn it on for my dog. I would still go home and do it, but I'd have to use that time as my lunch hour. Anything for our furkids, right?! |
oh no dont go there  i had an issue with my boss cause of that. i told him off because he said its just a dog. my baby was really sick :( he doesnt understand that misty is my baby ;) so now i learned if misty is ever sick i will lie :p jerk :thumbdown  |

i havent called in sick for lexi, and i hope i will never have to.. ive been very luck... if i had to, oh yes sir ee i would, in a heart beat. everyone here knows how i feel about my lexi ( everyone). |
Nope, but I've skipped a day of classes because my kiddos were sooo sick! |
I called in sick because I didn't any sleep. So actually I was sick and not Momiji, so I didn't lie. But I have no problem calling in sick if Momiji was sick. But I also will work harder the next day to catch up!!! |
I've called out sick when my dog died 2 years ago.. took 2 days off ... my boss totally understood, but I was going through a really hard time in my life in general and the dog was the icing on the cake! (bad breakup, cancelling wedding, selling house and then 5month old yorkie pup just died in the middle of it all.. it was horrible) Ive also taken a vacation day the day after I had my pup fixed! My vet does the surgerys every tues or thurs, no other day, so I had his done thurs, took off friday and had the weekend to watch over him! :) |
I have. And when it came to giving meds to my dog every 4 hours, my boss insisted that I bring her to work, so that I could watch over her there. |
Definitely. If my babies are sick, I tell the office just that. And if anyone told me it wasn't acceptable, you can be sure I'd be shopping my resume! |
I'm not working out of the house but, my hubby called off work when we got Piper. We had to pick her up on the other side of the state in Miami & I didn't want to go alone. So he went with me. He told them the truth about going to the airport with me to get her. He's also his own boss, just had to let the other boss know so he could run things. |
Yes: Lack of Sleep (me) - Dogs not feeling well - Vet appt. ;) |
Last summer I called in b/c my collie, Cheyenne, was very ill. I called out to take her to the vet. She had to stay over night so I went to work the next day to keep my mind busy. I ended up having to leave work early b/c her diagnosis was chronic renal failure and I had to have her put down. My boss was totally understanding and supportive. She's a dog lover, too. |
Thank goodness for understanding bosses who are pet lovers! |
I took vacation when Peanut was neutered and also when my cockatoo was hurt. My daughter shut the door on her foot by mistake, she needed stitches and had to wear the collar for a week. Well the collar took a hike because she couldn't even perch with it on. I keep her with me 24/7 so she would not pick at the leg and we sleep in the chair for a week. My boss just laughed when I asked for the time off. |
I haven't called off for sickness but I did take a vacation day when he was neutered. I think it's fine as long as you are doing it for a legitmate reason ie. sickness, surgery etc. Like someone else said, they are like your children and any responsible parent would take off work to make sure their dog or child is taken care of. It also depends on who your boss is. My boss has a yorkie and a lot of other people on my team have dogs so they understand. As long as you don't abuse it. ;) |

PS. Sorry to hear about the puppy and other stuff...Im sure that wasn't easy. ..you definitely needed time off for that!:( |
Definately. I took a day once because when I let him out in the morning he was acting "different". He was more clingy than usual and wouldn't really leave my side. I figured there had to be a reason because he never acted that way. Stay home from work to keep an eye on him. He was fine, thank God. I'm the boss at work but I would never reprimand an employee for a problem with a fur baby! |
Yep Ive called in a couple times for my babies, not just Sam. They know how I am about my animals and they would rather me be at home because if I was at work I would drive everyone NUTS! |
A few weeks ago when Rocky was sick I had to go into work because I opened the store, but I called my boss and asked if I could leave early after the other supervisor came in because Rocky was sick and I wanted to be home with him and take him to the vet if he needed to go, she totally understood. She knew Rocky's like a child to me, so she was cool about it. I don't know how my new manager will be about it though, (refer to my previous posting about when I called in w/ a migraine)..were cool now, and she saw my pictures of Rocky and think's he's adorable..she said she loves yorkies, so maybe she would be o.k with it. Either way, if my baby's sick, he's sick..I don't care what my coworkers think, his health is more important. |
My boss understands and I will do it when I have to they are like my kids |
