I have to say that Premium Dog Food is WAY better than the average Dog Food from the food stores and big chain pet stores. Please look at the ingredients. I would NEVER feed my dogs anything that includes BY-PRODUCTS in any shape or form. By-Products are pure crap, they include parts of ANY animals (road kill animals, dogs/cats killed in shelters, unfit parts from slaughter houses, cancerous and diseased organs, feet) By-Products = Parts of Animals that are NOT fit for Human Consumption Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and are free to purchase and feed what ever they want. BUT honestly, better food that you can get at a Smaller Pet Shop only costs maybe $2 to $4 more a bag. To me - My Babies are Worth it :) If anyone is going to switch food, please do it slowly and gradualy as to not upset the GI track. ;) |
After reading this, boy oh boy was this an eye opener  http://www.homevet.com/petcare/foodbook.html This site is really awesome (I am still working my way through all the pages, but I really like it): http://dogtorj.tripod.com/index.html |
I worried about Lily for awhile too, she seemed like she would never gain weight after I got her. After about a month of living with me she put on about 3/4 of a pound. I also feed her Eukanuba, the small breed puppy formula. It was NOT included on the recall. She is happy and healthy...and best of all, I can afford it! Just give it some time. Yorkies are very petite! Lily weighs 4lbs at 6 months. |
Foods bought at petsmart are definitely not the same quality as premium healthy dog foods. You can get Solid Gold at PETCO and that's a good quality food. You might try that. Many of those foods listed on the dog food analysis website can be purchased online as well for cheaper. Try www.petfooddirect.com Just take a look at www.dogfoodanalysis.com and look at the 1, 2, and 3 star foods...Read the reviews and you will see why they do not even compare to the 4, 5, and 6 star foods. Many of the lower star foods contain BHA, BHT, and ethoxyquin. Ethoxyquin is a known carcinogen that is BANNED from human foods, yet they allow it to go into Dog foods?!? They use by-products, road kill, disgusting stuff.. Plus, premium foods are really not that much more expensive than Eukanuba and stuff like that. Just a couple more dollars per bag. Good luck!! |

We feed Louie Pedigree Chum Puppy, he is still 2lb, (3 and a half months) and his legs look like sticks with a big fluffy body, but looks like a chuwawai (sp) when hes having a bath, so I can see from reading this thread hes OK:thumbup: as I did think he was a bit underweight |

Riley is a tiny girl with very skinny legs as well (which seem even skinnier because her hair grows very slowly). She was underweight at about 4 months of age, and I switched her from Nutro to Canidae. Her appetite picked up, and the vet is pleased with her weight now. She was 2.4 pounds right at 6 months which is good for her little frame. Everyone here has given you such good food information. Good luck in finding one that works for your baby! |
