Flop Ears Hello again and thank you all very much for your nice welcome messages : ) There is something I wanted to ask you... When I got Bit she had her ears taped. The breeder took it off and said that I should put the tape again the next day. I didn't. I think it's kind of cruel... well, cruel is maybe a too strong word, but at least it's obviously not comfortable at all for them, and she seems to hate it... I see in your photos that a lot of your dogs have flop ears. I don't mind that mine gets to be like that, but I wonder if there is any kind of inconvenient? Thank you |
Did I say something stupid? |
My Yorkie has floppy ears right now too - I'm actually hoping they stay this way - He is just too cute with floppy ears - From what I've read in here - They can go up by themselves. I think the tape just helps- I'm leaving it to be what it will be. |
Not quite sure what your original question was? Are you asking if it's bad (healthwise) to have floppy ears? |
Yes, that's what I was asking... If they get more otitis (?) pardon my English, or something like that... Thank you for replying. I was starting to feel alone ; ) |
it shouldn't affect theiir health in anyway...its more of a preference... |
I think I've read that having floppy ears just makes them slightly more prone to ear infections. Don't take my word on that though..I think its just more of the owner preference on whether you want them to fit into the standard or not... |
P.S. - You're never alone on YT. Someone will always try to answer you ASAP. :D |
2 Attachment(s) Long live flop earred Yorkies!! Here's my boy!! And.... He's 3yrs old and never had an ear infection! |
Well I suppose on weither you want to show him or not. I have 1 floppy and 1 not. My Boots is so beautiful she is the wrong colour almost pure steel grey with floppy ears, I no if I shave her ears they will stand but I dont want to she is unique and and everyone cant get over how beautiful she is. Its up to you. Thy will not effect his health. Just enjoy him. Oh and welcome, dont think we have anyone from portugal yet |
Thank you all again for your answers : ) I don't want to show her, I couldn't care less about that kind of thing. For me a dog (as well as my cats) is a member of the family... And that's exactly why I don't want to annoy her with tape or other uncomfortable things which are not absolutely necessary. I was just checking if it would not bring health problems, that's all. |
My 10 month hold Sam has one floppy ear and one that stands up and I just love it. He reminds me of Piglet from Winny the Poo with his ears like that and I hope they stay that way forever. |
Both of mine have floppy ears and people tell me that they love the look. One is 3 and one is 3 1/2 and they have never had an ear infection. |
Hi, just a quick question...how can i keep a yorkies ears down? i prefer the floppy look? thanks... |
i love love love the floppy ears. i wish harleys were floppy:wub: |
Lucy is floppy, too. We fell in love with her this way and we didn't want her to change. We never shaved or trimmed her ears when she was little. Her ears are not big, but her hair is heavy and long on her ears.We were glad we made that decision for her. I like the look of the ears up also, but this is a perfect look for Lucy. |

As it turned out, she has really thick, heavy hair on her ears and when we first got her groomed they shaved the tips and they still didn't stand up. People ask us all the time what kind of dog is she and they don't believe she is a Yorkie because of her ears and size. I love the floppy look and would never have taped them. I think the stand-up ears are adorable too. I love both looks. |
My Tootie is floppy, My Hopey is not! I have never done anything either way nor cut their hair. Tooties ears are just so soft and cute! Hopey's ears stand and she has very long hair on her ears too.. I think its just genetic, meant to be or not.. my babies are both perfect just the way they are! Good Luck with your baby! d |
Both of mine have floppy ears I love it! I think they are way cute like that. |
Ginger and Bernie both have floppy ears...if you want to leave them that way, go for it! |
I don't mind it either way... I love both the looks. But I didn't know that they could stand without help. I thought we had to tape them so they would stand... and that I don't want to do. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens : ) |
