New Yorkie owner - Need advise Hi - Looking for some Yorkie insight - I am new to owning a Yorkie - I've had him - (Baxter) for two weeks - He is almost 12 wks old. Absolutelythe cutest thing I have ever seen - but he seems to be getting a bit more comfortable with us - and is NUTS - CRAZY - OUT OF HIS MIND - STUBBORN - there are a lot more words to describe - but I think you get the picture. I am used to having Akitas and am afraid to discipline this puppy - He's so little 4.5 lbs. but has big tude. I know he's just a puppy - Is this a normal stage? |
First off Welcome to YT you will love it here! Yes puppies are stubborn especially yorkies! |
You need to start showing him your the pack leader soon, or he'll walk all over you. It's so easy to do where their so cute, to just let them get away with so much. Been there. 4.5 lbs at almost 12 weeks. Would love to see pictures of Baxter. Max is 3.2lbs at 5 months. I wish he's grow a little faster to keep up with his sisters. He does pretty well. |
That is a normal puppy stage but don't be afraid to discipline..if you don't they will never learn! |
This is a great site - I'm certainly learning alot reading the posts. Anyway - What would be a normal weight for a 12 wk old Yorkie - From what I'm seeing - Mine may be a little of the heavy side - He was just at the vet - and I was told he weighed 4.5 lbs. They did not seem concerned - Should I? |
i wouldn't be too concerned every dog grows different.. |
Don't be concerned about his weight. Although the standard is under 7 pounds full grown, there are a lot of wonderful, beautiful yorkies on here that are bigger. There will be a lot less for you to worry about as he gets older because he is so big. There really isn't a "normal" weight for yorkies at that age, because they all develop differently. Feel free to post pics! ;) I'd love to see your baby! Welcome to yorkietalk. :D |
Naughtiness goes with the puppy. Unless he is biting at you, barking at you, or acting disrespectful to you in anyway, he will outgrow the naughtiness. If you find that he is trying to take the role of pack leader, then you need to take actiond. Otherwise, treat as you would a toddler. Watch them closely and confine them when you can't watch them. |
Hi! welcome--I'm in NY too! You have to use your "big girl voice"-(very deep tone with authority--no raising involved)- when I use mine, everyone in the house takes notice.;) |
Baxter truly believes he is the leader of the pack - We are trying to get him in line - it's just too funny - this little thing thinking who the hec he is - Gotta love him........ I would love to post pictures - but I'm still in the learning part of this - I tried earlier and it kept failing - No worries - they will be here soon - He is just too cute. - Now dont' get me wrong - Everyones dog is cute - I'll try not to brag to much about mine lol |
WOW - His picture showed up - Guess I did it right after all |
Welcome to YT..you will definately love it here.... |
if that's his face on your avatar, then he is adorable! :daisy: |
Welcome to YT...yorkies have BIG attitudes lol...Reece TALKS BACK to me!! I say to him "How dare you yell at your mommy??" and he talks right back to me...its too cute!! When I am eating or getting ready to go out he moves his little mouth and tries to talk to me me, I am sure he is trying to convince me to either give him a little nibble of my food or take him with me for a car ride..I wish I could video tape him "talking" back to mommy...good luck "trying" to discipline your little one...I KNOW its hard hehehehehehe... I swear our little girl knows exactly which buttons to push to get her way. She's cute as a button, and I love her dearly, but stubborn? Oh you betcha! Btw, my picture is of her taking control of her leash. We keep her leash on her all the time because she is too quick for us to catch. So when we put it on, she grabs it in her mouth and walks off with it, as if to say "You're not the boss of me! I am!" |
