Is humping bad? Wesley has had a stuffed rabbit since we got him. When he was 6 month old, he started humping it. We had him neutered about a month later. Anyway...he stopped humping for about a year. Now he is 19 months and he has started humping his rabbit every night. This this something I should stop? I feel like he isn't doing anything bad, so I don't like scolding him for it. Any advice? |
I don't know about this someone will answer you soon |
I'm no expert but I don't think there is anything wrong with that....Marley does it all the time.....I buy them loofa dogs very often:p |
I Have A Female I don't know if that normal but my female yorkie 2 1/2 years old hump all her stuff animals also she loves my husband leg when he have white socks .Is kind of funny . |
I should also add...I don't let Wesley hump when we are at the dog park or with doggie friends. So is it confusing for him to not be allowed to hump other doggies, but allowed to hump his stuffed animal? :idontknow |
I'm glad you brought this up. My sister passed away last month and that is all her yorkie does. I hate taking my girls around him cause he doesn't leave them alone. I feel bad cause I know he is lonely but my 13 year old nice is taking care of him. |
I personally would discourage all humping. Even though it is just a toy it encourages that behavior. |

I don't know if it's bad or not but mine does it too and I don't like it. I wish he would stop. |

well heck - romeo was not even 2 months and he was humping his little puppy dog!:p he doesn't do it often enough for me to discourage it as some have suggested and when he does it is not long - just a couple of times. i guess he wears himself out!:D |
Ohhh mannnnnnnnn.....I call Louie my little "Humpty Dumpty" because he has this huge stuffed monkey that he likes to hump. If he knows I see him then I say no and discourage it, but sometimes I "pretend" I dont see him because I feel bad for him. |
I guess I really don't have that problem...except wiith my female toy poodle...i see her sometimes trying to hump 1 of my other dogs...and i thought that was too crazy... |
I read someplace that its a sign of dominance. Never let them "hump a person" they are trying to dominate you. I also saw a Dog wisper show about a dog that did this and he said the same thing |
Winnie humps her duck...and it honks with each hump. My hubby and I find it hilarious, I wouldn't be able to mutter no even if I wanted to. She used to try to hump my arm, but I stopped that behavior quick. She only humps ducky now and as long as it stays that way, it's ok by me. |

OMG!!:D i laughed out loud just reading that! i can not imagine seeing and hearing it in person!!! |
My Jax humps all the time. He will pile all of his toys up and go at it :) He even has a "humpy bone" that is his favorite. With that, he will drag it outside and do obscene things to it and I hope my neighbors don't think I'm crazy!! But he's been doing this since 3 months old and I asked my vet about it. The vet said it has to deal with domination and with toys, it's perfectly fine. But he said not to let the doggie hump legs or arms because he will think he is dominating you (humans). Hope this helps :animal36 |
Chachi did this alot before he was neutered. He started doing it every now and then after he was neutered and I would tell him no when he did it and he stopped doing it all together. There was a yorkie on here that threw his back out while dong it |

My Missy has stopped doing this since she has become a mummy, I think she knows were it leads to and she,s having none of it. :p |
I agree with what was said previously. It is just dominance behavior and I would not discourage it unless it is being done to another person. If you discourage it with other dogs you are disrupting pack order. |

The main reason I discourage him at the dog park is because people seem to get really mad at the other dog's owner when their dog is getting humped. I've even seen some owners chew others out when their dog is getting humped by another. I don't want someone to do that to me. Personally, it wouldn't bother me if my dog got humped a little. Most of the time, I find it funny because the humper usually doesn't even know how to do it. Sometimes, he will even be humping the wrong end. :p But then again, Wesley doesn't let dogs hump him...he's always the humper.... |

I think it's a dominance thing. I had a dog when the kids were small that would attach a rug when I threw them outside. The kids came running in crying they said momma come quick Max has rabies. Jackie |
