Not A Failure I do think if you can keep the weight of his hair off, by shaving the tops it does help, and the ear massage sounds like a good idea. Taping...never was too good with that either, but I did it anyway. Winston's ears have always stood straight up, even as a baby. But my 1st Yorkie, Spencer's didn't. I tried everything...but as he got older, finished teething, they would go up and down, depending on his mood. So it can be done...but I have loved them both, and really wouldn't mind if they never stayed up. Still cute as a button. I think I read on here to use tampons(with the strings cut off) as splints...might be worth a try, I think it sounds like a good idea...:animal36 |
Just let his precious ears fall they look so cute with long ears but I guess I am partial to little floppy ears |
I think you're going to have a big boy indeed -- you'll be lucky if he stops at 10 pounds. But the fact that he exceeds the breed standard doesn't have anything to do with his ears. (I've seen plenty of YTers with "teapots" attest to this.) My first Yorkie was standard in every way, a truly beautiful one in every way -- EXCEPT his ears flopped. Ozzie, however, is 13.5 pounds -- almost twice the most Scruffy ever weighed -- and his ears have almost always been straight up. (And neither of Ozzie's parents weighed more than 7 pounds and both had straight ears. Scruffy's parents were tiny -- 4 and 6 pounds I think -- and their ears were both up, too.) I hope your guy's will stand up for you! But stand or flop, 10 pounds or more -- you've got a keeper. (Assuming that's him in your avatar. What a sweetie.) |
Yes, that is him in my Avatar. He is a cutie! I can try to tape again but tell me again how I get them to stand while I am taping- they are pointing out when I have them taped. I guess I need "ear taping for dummies." :scratchhe |
1 Attachment(s) You're not a failure - I just did your avatar and while looking at his pics I honestly don't think his ears will stand - lots of people have yorkies who's ears don't stand and it's cute...:) :) but shaving them WILL help take the weight off so if you want to keep taping that will help alot.... Shaving is really easy - all you need is a trimmer that looks just like this - 10 bucks at Walgreens - you don't need all the attachments - they were just in the pic I snagged |
4 Attachment(s) also massaging his ears will help...it gets the blood flowing...I have attached some pictures of tootsie when I went thru it...good luck! |
