You need to take her in first thing tomorrow and talk to the vet about it. That should be a follow up. Sounds like she wasn't stitched up very well. I know you're probably ready to freak out, but try to stay calm for your baby girl. I hope all goes well tomorrow and please update us. |
Poor baby....I think you should go to a different vet... |
You should not pay anything else!!! I agree it is not normal the stitches are broken so soon!!! And the poor baby, must be in pain, and an infection could be really dangerous in such small dogs as yorkies... I am not sure if I would want to go back to the same vet, but for sure he should stand for his work... Juanito had a shot a couple days ago, next day he was limping... I called the vet, he checked his neurological system, and I did not pay anything else... following up, is how it is called! And they say they love animals....  |

1st of all if she cried and peed I would not leave her. 2nd why wouldn't they put one of those lamp shade things on her to protect her from touching the stitches? Chances are if you take her to another vet then you will have to pay again. |

I agree. If you take her to a diff vet they will charge their fee, so I would just take her back to that same vet and demand that they treat her for less or even free, since it was their goof. Tell them how it cause your dog to be in more pain, terror, and caused you grief as well. Please let us know what happens tomm. By the way, maybe you can give her a baby asprin for the pain....... thats what my vet told me to give one of mine after being fixed. And it did help. Good luck. |
question: does your pup have a e-collar on or anything to prevent her from getting at her stitches? stitches normall don't just open on their own or come apart. maybe your pup got at them when you weren't looking and she opened them up? I'm sorry to say that the vet fee for the restitching is a normal thing because they have to put her back under to close the wound again. I'd let them do it. You don't want her to get an infection, it would cost more to clear up the infection and take care of an infected wound then to just restitch the incision now. i'm sorry this happened but sometimes pups just get at it because it itches and they pull out the stitches. |
This is very sad. If they won't help you for free go to another vet. |

Either way, she will needs to be sutured or she will not heal properly and most likely have infection which could be life threatening. I would have her sutured because it is imperative. Be strong and your baby is scared and hurting. Also, when she comes back home, she must be very quiet, rest and no jumping. Thinking of you. |
I can't tell you about the money issue but you do have to get your baby back to a vet & get her taken care of right away. If you are unhappy with your current vet, go to another one. If you don't have the money, put it on a credit card or ask for a payment plan. Prayers for you & your pup.:) |
I don't think they shoulda charged anything...especially $150!!! I hope she gets better. |
When I had Maddie spayed, about 4 days later her incision was very red and oozing blood and pus on one end. She, like Coco, just laid around and had no energy. I called the emergency vet that night and got a crabby lady vet. She acted upset that I'd bothered her, so I told her I'd be bringing Maddie in in the morn. I was there with Maddie at 8 and it was the same crabby vet...she was the vet on call for the weekend. She thought I was an overprotective Mom until she looked at the incision and the oozing. She did a swab of it and sure enough, it was infected. I paid my bill and when I got home, looked at it and she had charged me for a work in appointment. The following Monday I called the office and talked to the office manager and told her I thought that was out of line...it should have been considered after care. She was going to talk to my vet...not the crabby lady, but the one who is owner of the clinic. A couple of days later, I got a check in the mail for full payment, minus the cost of the meds. I think it is awful that they wouldn't tend to the needs of Coco...without a charge of any kind! To send a dog home who is in need of care is beyond my understanding. I would almost guess she's got an infection...or the start of one, and the sooner it's treated, the better. Good luck and I will be watching for updates! |
If your baby is shaking that is pain! Our little girl was shaking between pain pills too, and our vet said that was an indication that she was in pain, so they gave us more pain pills. Also the idea that if they don't have pain pills it's better because they won't move around as much is nonsense! Sorry if that bluntly contradicts anyone else, but the truth is that the pain pills keep them from moving around as they make them very sleepy and tired and they mostly lay around and sleep when on them. If you don't have pain pills, then for heavens sake demand them! You should not put your baby through such torture just because you don't want to demand pain meds. You are the client and you are paying (plenty from the sound of it), so you have every right to demand that they treat your pet for pain. As far as the charges, paying extra to reclose the wound is unethical as far as I'm concerned. Our little girl managed to bend her collar and then wiggle out of her onesies and got her incision partly open. The vet had to reclose it by gluing it (there is surgical glue for the purpose) and we weren't charged a thing for it. So stand up for yourself. This vet sounds unethical. If I were you, I'd call and tell them that #1 you need pain pills for your puppy as she is obviously in pain, and #2 you do not feel the charges for reclosing the incision are justified and that you would hate to have to contact the Board of Veterinary Medicine to lodge a complaint. Go for the jugular, but in a firm, civil tone. Don't fly off the handle, but don't let them intimidate you either. |
With apologies, I missed a portion of the original thread. Shaking is definitely an indication of pain, and she should be on pain medication. I said my pup did not have medication but she spent two days in the vet's hospital and was sent home with antibiotic. Sweetums' advice is absolutey correct. |
