In what public places are Yorkies acceptable? We are going to be getting a Yorkie *hopefully* in a few weeks! :) I want to know where they are acceptable to bring? I haven't ever had a small portable dog so I wasn't sure :) TIA! :) |
I always ask before I bring mine in! My girls are in a stroller so they are happy to just be adored by other shoppers. I take mine to Jo-Ann fabrics all the time, I've gone into coffee shops and gift shops downtown. |
I snuck Misha in Sams once, they told me not to do it again. Anywhere where food is sold except for a few dog friendly restaurants. |
Oh ok... What about like the Mall?? Or a Target that doesn't sell food?? And obviously pet stores, but we live in Texas where if I take her with me, she needs to come in to all the stores with me because it will be way to hot for her in the car. I am just sooo excited to have a dog I can take around with me :) lol |
I would say, of course pet stores, Michaels, Hobby Lobby, The Home Depot, Lowe's, Macy's, Sears, JC Penney, Car Agencies, Banks, generally, wherever they don't sell food... Although, I have sneaked Luna in Target, Walmart, and once on HEB... She was a little puppy, and was concealed in the carrier... Everything went fine until oranges started squeaking LOL, then I hurried to the exit... I think the point is: Always use a carrier, and if somehow your dog has an accident, be ready, prepared and willing to clean... I found myself cleaning The Home Depot floor, but everybody were happily surprised when I pulled out the carrier the paper towels.... |
I take Dior everywhere except restaurants. She goes to the mall and the bank weekly. We have been turned away from target and walmart once but that hasn't stopped us.:D I had a black carrier for her and no 1 ever suspected. Then i got a Juicy carrier and every 1 wants to see in the bag. Places they are allowed.. Petsmart, Petco, Care a lot, Dog boutiques, Doggy park. I would love to live in Europe where they are allowed everywhere. |
Ok... that makes sense. I literally laughed out loud with the whole oranges squeeking :) Too funny! :) |
I have taken Bandit in to target numerous times, and no one says anything. Walmart on the other hand, it depends on which greeters at the door. |
Pet stores are ok. Malls are a-ok because most have pet stores. Chloe's gone clothes shopping with me in the mall & she went video game shopping with Daddy. We've never been kicked out of any mall store. Not near the food court, though. I took her to Costco and no one said anything until we were paying for our stuff and then they said next time, don't bring the dog. So she won't be going back there... I try to take her as many places as I can. |

same thing happened to me at walmart with romeo. no one even knew he was in the bag until the lady behind me started talking to him! BUT i have been in walmart early in the morning - before 6am - and i have seen people with their little dogs. i was in lowe's one day and a lady had her pug sitting in the front of the buggy in full view - no bag - and no one seemed to mind! |
If you have a small carrier that looks more like a purse, and she is quiet, then you can actually get by with taking her into any store or resturant. I did that with Zada for the longest time, then we got Azrael and bought a stroller and can still go into most stores, but we don't do the resturant thing unless it's one we can eat outside, because the dog strollers have gotten so popular that they are easily spotted now days. |
Murfee goes almost every place. We have been asked to leave several places but I always give it a try. Even some places that say "no dogs" have said he can come in since he is small and I ALWAYS carry him. Lately he has been riding in his little carrier on my front...the kind all 4 legs are out and no one has turned us away! A lot of people just think it is a back pack only in the front and don't even notice him. Now WalMart is a different story, especially our with a grouchy front door greeter! but I have even snuck him in there. Tourist spots usually always are pet friendly. |
Anywhere we can sneak them in.. lol :P |
Not STARBUCKS!!! I was there on the weekend just to pop in for a coffee. Wasn't staying. I was holding Jeanie - told that I had to leave. I said can I put her in her carrier........no - leave! I was angry, and will not return to starbucks. She could have been reasonable and allowed her in there in the bag......that was just biatchy I thought. Nonetheless, when in the bag, I can take her anywhere.....as long as she doesn't poke her head out. But the big bad S is the only place I have been asked to leave......evil little coffee place :) |
taking my yorkies I take mine all over the place....Lowes is fine with dogs (NC) as long as they stay in the buggy..I left Walmart one hot day as they wouldn't let me go into the garden center (outside) with one of my babies....Petsmart obviously..I've even been into a pharmacy with him (the customer is always right!)..... I've locked the car with the air conditional running (keys in it!) so I could run to the bathroom at a rest stop....(dogs were in crates)...why I can't take them in there I'll never know! We're lucky here in NC that dogs are allowed on the beaches (everywhere) and that they are clean and FREE! Such a change from where we lived on the beach in NJ...couldn't take your dog and they charge you $10 day to go onto it. We vacation at the State and National Parks so the yorkies come too. roxanne in nc |

You can go to Lowes, Menards and home depot here. I dont take mine anywhere to go shopping anymore they are too big for a bag. I take them to Petsmart and those type of places. In the spring through Fall I take them to festivals |
carrying in or in a carrier? Is this with everyone carrying your babies in, or do they start out in the carrier and people notice and then tell you to leave? I'd like to take mine everywhere, and one of the plusses about the juicy carrier I'm considering buying is that is doesn't really look like a doggie bag, and I don't think people around here would notice... |
I took my furbaby to the mall in her V Bradley carrrier and was rudely approached by 2 security guards telling me I couldn't have a dog in the mall. If you didn't look close you wouldn't be able to tell it was a pet carrier and she wasn't making a sound. Needless to say I put in a call to the mall mgmt  who told me it was in the mall "Rules of Conduct" I told him I didn't see them and asked where they were posted....he said all main entrances  ....I checked and there are no postings. He said there would be some "retraining" of the security guards after I finished telling him how I was treated (they yelled at me across the mall, people probably thought I had shoplifted something:eek: ) I certainly wouldn't have thought it would take 2 security guards to confront a 5' woman with a 2 1/2 lb yorkie. Now I"m a little apprehensive about taking her in places with the exception of Pet Smart |

I have a question... ...has anyone ever taken their baby (or babies) to the zoo (in a stroller, not allowed out)? We're going to Toronto in June for Woofstock and I LOVE the zoo and haven't been in a long time and would love to go, but we'd have Chloe. |

So no more Starbucks. I'm looking for one of the drive-through coffee shop now!!!! |
I found this neat site, which lists places that are "dog friendly." I wish every place was, I've snuck Sassy into Walmart twice, but I haven't tried anywhere else YET! Here's the link: http://www.dogfriendly.com/ |
Thanks for the dog friendly link..... DH and I were talking about planning our vacation for later this year. DH informed me that to make sure while planning to include the Boss (Gordon) for our vacation, make sure everything is dog friendly in our plans. the only place I have taken Gordon in , is Petsmart. I wish we had more dog friendly places around here...... |
I took Trixie with me to Lowes once and swore I'd NEVER do it again!:( Every two seconds someone wanted to pet her or ask me questions...which isn't all that fun when you are actually there for a reason, i.e. to buy things and can't. Anyway, I went to the same Lowe's not long ago and heard them tell someone that they didn't allow dogs anymore because someone was bitten by a customer's dog once. I guess it really just depends on the individual store. I would suggest you check with them ahead of time and if they say 'no,' leave em at home. (I think mine prefer sleeping on a cushy bed anyway... ) If you feel like you are have to 'sneak' to get your furbaby in (which I cannot understand the appeal, for the life of me) it's probably not a good idea.:) |
I sneak Tucker in everywhere except grocery stores. I keep him in his carrier-no one even notices. I have had him in the library, post office (I take my Mastiff in the post office too, though!), All About Sports, several restaurants, clothing stores, girl scout meetings, Best Buy, etc... I want to take him to the movies, so that will definitely be on the list soon. Anyone else find it fun to find different places to sneak them in? My hubby thinks I am nuts, but it is fun! Missy |
The only place I have run into trouble with is Wal Mart because they sell food it is a health code violation |

First of all, no offense taken. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I am not talking about finding places that have a strict policy on no pets. For example, My Aunt had a Bday party for my cousin at her house. I called her about a month before and asked if I could bring Tucker to the party, as I won't leave him in a car or the hotel room. She said of course, so I took him in his carrier. She greeted us at the door, we hugged, talked for a few minutes, and I moved on into the living room. After I got the skin kids settled, I got Tucker out and when my Aunt came into the room, she was asking everyone who brought the puppy?? I told her and she was so shocked that she hadn't even noticed I had him with me. She thought I had a new purse! THAT IS FUN. The bank, library and post office are acceptable, as we live in a small town and know everybody. We have known some of the people who work there for years and they have no problem with it. We have to sneak him in because they don't want everyone bringing their pets in. It is fun to be able to walk around town and know that if I want to stop somewhere with him, I can! (I won't take him to grocery stores or places that sell fresh foods for obvious reasons.) I also think it is fun to be able to sneak him into different places because we have to drive over an hour to get to the closest mall, Target, Petsmart, etc... and I can take him with me, sneak him in, and go to Petsmart on the same trip. It is not at all about finding places to go against their policies. It is about knowing that if we are out with him and want to stop somewhere, I don't have to stay in the car with him-I can take him in with me. It is very convenient! I have seen several people with their dogs at the movies, and since the owners know my parents and I went to school with their kids, it won't ever be a problem. It is just fun to be able to include him in so much! I find that very FUN. Hope your curiosity is appeased, and have a good day, Missy Quote:

Well that does make sense...when you are just using it as an expression... It's when people KNOW that their dog is not allowed in X store and they try to 'hide' them to get them in anyway...that is what I just can't get...I have a neighbor that does this and I refuse to go anywhere with her when she does it. |
