I think anything over 3 hours is a bit too long and you should consider going somewhere else especially if you had to wait a whole day once..

I drop Sadie off at 8:00 a.m. and pick her up at Noon. Never has been a problem.

Conner just got groomed on Friday. I dropped him off at 9:30, and they told me I could pick him up at 1 p.m. He was fine. He loves to see the other dogs, and they even had a bunny rabbit that was boarding.

I have three babies that now go to the groomers. Two hours seems to be about average. But honestly I am not real thrilled and they do seem a bit overpriced. Next month I am going to try a place that DaisyMae06 recommended. Don't know if I will be able to get all three in at the same time or not.

My groomer usually does mine in about an hour! She does it out of her house and does a wonderful job!!!

It probably depends on if you live in a big busy city or a farm town. I know here it takes 3 to 4 hours no matter what groomer they go to.

My groomer takes 2 hours to do both my furkids...she is awesome too!! Love her!!

My hubby and I bathe the furbabies, clip nails, express anal glands if (necessary), clip hair (if necessary, but we are growing their hair out), clean ears, brush, comb, blow-dry, finish...
Plus, I'm so scared of them catching something or someone hurting them...I know, I'm paranoid!
I guess if I were to find someone who would come to my home to groom them, and I could watch, but then what would be the point. LOL We might as well do it ourselves...Oh well :)

I thought about this as well. it always seems they take all day to have my dogs done when i take them to the groomer but i have since tried another groomer and it was about the same so i guess thats normal. I took Oliver my pom and anna my yorkie in a few weeks ago and they both got their hair cut i dropped them off at 10 in the morning and she called when they were done and she called arround 3 and saind they would be done at 330 i went early and oliver was still getting some work done he didnt like me being there he imediately wanted down.

I used to take mine to the groomers and they would give me a "special" appt. where I would bring him in and they would do him immediately and would be done within the hour. I did it this way because I did not want to leave him there just to "sit" and wait to be done and they were very accomodating to me. After hearing some groomer "horror stories" though, I have since decided to just groom them myself. The only thing I bring them in for is to have their nails clipped because Im afraid to do that.:(

If they are charging when you stay - don't leave your dog!! As a groomer I can tell you I have seen some "interesting" things in a grooming shop. Depending on the type of grooming your dog requires it can be anywhere from 1 - 2 hours TOPS! I've worked for places that cage the dogs and keep going back to them - I can say that the idea of putting a dog in the cage repeatedly is more stressful. If they stress on the grooming table it is the groomers responsibility to present a calm environment - not put the dog back in a cage then take it back out again to the same environment.
My advice is call around - look for a groomer that does one on ones (your dog is the only dog in the shop) You may pay a bit more but if your dog gets individual care and is in and out within a couple hours believe me it is worth it!! My clients LOVE my service. When their dog comes I give it my full attention - no other dogs are caged and barking creating stress.
Please - if you don't get a good feeling dont leave your dog!!

45 minutes to an hour by appointment only. We go once a month. It never, ever takes her any longer.

oh my god that is messed up. its not costing them anything for you to stay. i dont understand what their bases on charging you for staying is. did they give you a reason for this? sounds like they are hiding something to me.

I once job shadowed during highschool (like 3-4 years ago) at a vet/groomer and they made us help groom dogs and cats all day. and the lady doing the groomings washed all the dogs and cats with dawn dish soap, i was apalled and needless to say i dont take my pets to that vet or that groomer i wouldnt want my dogs washed with dish soap if i wanted that done id do it myself at home. she charged quite a bit to for dish soap bathing lol.

OHHHH this happened to me the first time I took them to get groomed! 7 1/2 hours!!! I was going CRAZY at home waiting for them!! At first it was great, I washed the floors entirely! I cleaned the house entirely without having to worry about them or being bothered by them, but after that I MISSED THEM!!! I realize they were very shaggy and needed a lot of work but she had told me originally 3 - 4 hours for both and it took twice that! But like you I was sooooo pleased! Now they have been since and its about 3 - 4 hours for both of them. Usually I drop them off at 8 and pick them up b/t 11 & 12! :D

Some groomers charge extra for the owner to stay b/c they claim it distracts them. IMO you're not much of a groomer if a person in your shop is distracting. If a human is distracting how about all those other dogs barking or phone ringing?

As for the Dawn dish liquid - some groomers feel that washing a really oily dog with Dawn helps however if a groomer uses quality shampoos and understands a dogs coat they don't resort to using subsitute products. All the more reason the public should push for groomers having to be licensed by their states - just as a hair stylist is.
