Did yours stay dark? Kona is just over a year old (1 year and a month or so) and she is still the black and tan. Do I need to be concerned that she hasn't changed colors or is that just okay and normal for some? |
I'v noticed usually the smaller ones stay blk/tan, but I'm no expert. How big is your baby? I THINK it should of started to change color by now. Mine is tiny and she stayed blk/tan, I know it's not the standard color though but I like it. |
Kona is on the smaller side - maybe just around 4 pounds (it's been a while since we weighed her). So I guess I'll go by what you said, that's super interesting if that is true. Bernie on the other hand has gotten a LOT lighter, he's two months younger than her. |
Hi, I wouldn't worry if your baby changes or not. My one girl Princess Pia will turn two years April 12th and she weighs just about 2 lbs. and is steele blue and tan head. My other girl Trixie Bear will turn 2 yrs. Sept 7th and she weighs just about 4 1/2 lbs. and her body is as black as can be and her head is a combo of colors. Since Pia is steele blue I don't think smaller size determines the color of the yorkie. I really love the dark black ones and unless your showing I wouldn't worry about it. :) |
2 Attachment(s) MY archie is 14 months and 3.5 pounds and has also stayed dark. I'd be happy if he stayed just as he is -- gorgeous! :mtongue: |
Oh for sure! i love her color. My bf and I commented when we got her on how we didn't want her to change colors because we loved it so much. So I guess we are getting what we asked for. She still looks as dark as she does in my avitar picture. She's not show quality so I'm not concerned about that. :) I just wanted to see what others thought. You're all the best! |

Ok, here's Pia for you :D I tried to find a pic where you could see her color but to be honest the pics really don't show her true color  Anyways, here she is ;) P.S. The last pic is Pia with her sister Trixie ;) Oh and Pia loves to sleep in hats, so please don't think I'm nuts, LOL!!! |
My punkin stayed dark she is a little over 2 now she is about 6lbs she is a good eater |
I love it when they stay dark! It makes them look like puppies even when they are all grown up! I like all of the colors though. My friend has one who is gold and actually a light silver..it is gorgeous! |

I meant boys tend to hold their color more than girls............can you tell I NEED so coffee? I am so stinken tired lately........I need my thyroid checked:rolleyes: |
Kona's colouring is very much like Tia's. The pic in the avatar is Tia when she was 9 weeks old. She is now over 4 months and her colouring hasn't changed except that the roots on the top of her head are ashy grey, and she has a few stray greys on her back. Lots of people comment on how they hope she stays dark. My husband and I chose her because of her dark colouring. It would be neat to see if she changes, and what to...but we love her no matter how she looks! |

They're all different. That is one of the attractions of the yorkie, they aren't all cookie cutter copies. |
no Tootsie is silver and tan...i wish she was a little darker... my next yorkie i am hoping will stay black/gold...kekk |
winston is still pretty dark, black and gold, and he's 3 years old and not a tiny yorkie, about 7.5 lbs. but when we were looking for a yorkie, we really wanted one that would stay dark, of course it's not the standard, it's just what i like, but you know what, i would still love him even if he turned out purple... |

Our new puppy is really dark too and we are hoping he stays that way as well. It is a really cute color! |
I ordered a copy of Annie's pedigree from AKC. She has stayed very dark and I found both colors in her parents and grandparents. I love the black and tan with some gold in her whiskers. I keep her with a "puppy cut" and she's adorable. I leave the long fur on her sides and legs. From what I can find out the colors come from the breeding, not necessarily from being male or female. Annie's mother was 6 lbs and her father about 4 lbs, but she has grown to 11 lbs and she's not fat, but she's very strong and muscular. There must have been a large ancestor back there somewhere in that pedigree!!!! We are kinda glad she's larger, not so delicate that way !! We love her no matter what. |
Ginger is close to her 2nd birthday and is still black and gold. I know it's not the breed standard but I love it! I think she's so cute. :) |
Max will be a year old on the 16th and he's still black and gold. He has some gray on the top of his head and his legs and feet are gold. I think he's beautiful. (But I am his Mommy). Judy |
buddy has stayed dark and tan . maddy is about 4 months (?) and the area where her hair is growing out is a greyish color but the tips are black so i think its normal bc buddy is about 7 months and he is still dark and i dont think u should worry :D |
Max looks alot like my Annie and the description you gave sounds like her coloring exactly !!! |
1 Attachment(s) I have two yorkies who are brother and sister and both the exact same size weighing in at 3lbs even. One is blue and gold and the other is black and tan. I don't think it has anything to do with their size...it has to do with their genes. I know the mother of my two was black and tan and their dad was blue and gold. |
