Need Prayers
 
My little girl "Faith" that was born just two weeks ago today is not doing well. The breeder just informed me that she has to hold her to her mothers breast once again to feed. She is was feeding on her own this last week and finding the nipple on her own, and now is needs help.

Please pray for her. Faith was born very tiny, just 2 Oz.

2 Ounces ? That is tiny and that little angel has my prayers....I hope she pulls thru this - I really do ...Is there more you can do to get her to eat ?

Faith is a beautiful name, I have a baby I am nursing off his mommy, too. I will by praying for your little Faith.

I am sending extra prayers to St. Francis for little Faith. Hopefully she'll start nursing on her own again, she is a tiny one...

Well, I had to go down to see Faith for myself. I have been dealing with this breeder by phone once and the rest email updates. There is no doubt that faith is in trouble, she is so small that she must be held to her mothers teat and even then is all to easily dislodged by any movement by the mother. This breeder is a wonderful woman but feels that if the pup can’t suck on her own, then maybe it is just nature’s way. I could not disagree more but I am somewhat helpless in these circumstances. The only help she will provide is the physical support of her hand as she assists the pup on the mother’s belly.

So, the power of prayer is all that I can rely upon.

Can't this little baby be bottle fed ? Are you saying if she can't eat the breeder will just let nature take it's course ? oh boy - I'd be crying - Are there other options ? I've never seen a baby that young in person but it seems there has to be something more she can do !!

Thank you everyone for your prayers and support. I just wish there was something I could do.

I have seen breeders put food right into their stomach. I really feel this needs to be done. To let one so small sink or swim on her own, does not sound right to me. Sometimes they just need a little extra help!

I just don't think it has to be this way!

From time to time , I have one or two little one like Faith . I tube feed the pups but it don't work all the time . I really hope she'll be ok .

I totally agree with you, but her feeling is that maybe she should not survive. I could not disagree more. I held her and she was in my opinion trying to suckle, which means to me that she knows what to do and what she needs. I gave her back very quickly and said “ I think she is hungry”, so the breeder held her to the mother’s breast, but being so tiny she kept loosing the teat.

She needs a lot more attention, and constant supervision to make sure she gets enough to eat. She is so very tiny that the loss of just one meal, could be her last.

I am more than sad, and have cried all day.

Please post this in the "Breeder" part of the forum. There are lots of breeders on herewho know how to feed tinies and other newborns where the mother isn't capable (C-section) or won't for whatever reason. I do not agree with "letting nature take it's course" until you have tried everything humanly possible to save her.

I know they can be hand fed when necessary to supplement what thay are getting from mom. They have preemie nipples and bottles for this purpose.

I can't see "letting nature take it's course" without trying anything and everything. And still I'd fight, and fight, and FIGHT! Why doesn't this breeder want to FIGHT for this baby? Apparently she's already paid for or in the works. EVERYTHING in my life would go by the wayside to urge this baby to live, how can she be so blase' about it?

I know exactly what you are saying, but I don't want to give the impression she is without heart. She is a wonderful woman, and I like her very much. I am heart sick, as you, and would fight heaven and earth to save her.

SoCalyorkilvr recommended that I send some instant messages to some breeders, maybe they can recommend something.

So please excuse that I must try to get this done immediately!

Maybe she would let you come and hold her to eat, or as someone else said, tube feed into their stomach. My baby is having trouble, but I sit with him 4-5 times a day to make sure he is eating, mom gives him a lick and it takes 5 min for him to latch on again. It is tedious work. When the rest are eating, I make sure he sucks on, but his brothers and sisters are more than twice his size already, and he has 4 to fight with. My vet said she would show me how to tube feed if he did not continue to gain weight, but he is 5 oz, not quite as delicate as yours. Good luck, I am still praying for little faith.

When I went over there today, that was one thing that I wanted to do. Just hold her on to her mother’s teat, but she felt that it would be to upsetting for the mom. Which I understood, but knew in time that could have been alleviated. However it was not just the mom, there were probably 25 or more dogs with and without pups that anytime I moved everyone would bark. I just could not allow my presence to upset the whole household. I held her only for a very brief moment because she lifted her little head and started, what I thought was suckling. If indeed she was suckling, then in my opinion she is more than viable!

If it was my litter, I would just camp out with them. Faith would be in my arms being cuddled and cued at, and the rest of the time held to her mother’s teat. I am not in a position to tell her what should be done, which makes me feel quite helpless!

I can only hope that she will not be upset with me for sharing this, as I did in a private message give her email address. They are breeders that post on this board. I am hoping that maybe they can suggest something other than prayer.

I will also pray for your little one. How I envy that you are able to sit with him and make sure he eats and is so loved. What I would not give to be in your place.

Please forgive me for being so absolutely mind numbed! I just can't seem to communicate very well under stress. I am writing so many people at once, that I can only hope that it makes sense.

Seems to me that maybe she doesnt have the time to give this baby the extra attention that it needs. I am not being mean or harsh, with 25 dogs, sounds like she already has her hands full.

I will pray for Little Faith for her to pull thru. I really hope that she start nursing soon. Please keep us posted. I hope that the breeder will try something more than letting "nature take is course." Good luck.
