pet sitting price What's fair. I started a thread about boarding, and what I gather is $10-25 per day. I want to pet sit, and I was thinking about 30/week or 5/day, two daily visits...or maybe 45/week or 7/day. How does it sound? What's a good price? |

Layla goes to a babysitter during the day and it is 15 dollars for the day.. or however long i choose to leave here there... it is 25 on the weekend.. and i've never left her overnight.. but i'd imagine it would be like 25-30 for each day/night that she is there. |
If I could find a sitter that watches Pepper for the day, I'd pay 20-25 for 2-3 days a week. But a daycare will charge more. Finding someone who will dogsit a few small dogs at a time at their house would be great.. |

pet sitting sounds like fun! I would do it if I have a big backyard! |
Yeah boarding is usually $30 on up...we take Lexxi when we leave town but she has to be on the nursing side, which makes it $60 per day!!! The 2 i've used charge like $20 extra to administer medication! I agree it depends on what you are offering...I had a friend come to my house to feed, change pads and play with my girls 2x per day and she would stay about an hour each time. She also fed my 2 "big" dogs while she was here. She charged us $20 per day - but she is a friend too. With gas and taking the time to do come here, it was worth it. I think $20 a day is fair to charge if I were keeping the doggie with me, overnight and giving it 24 hour care and attention-like a part of our family. And I would pay someone I trust to keep my girls in their home in a heartbeat! However, I don't trust too many people with my babies  |
My mom does it for free in her home  I keep telling her she should charge.... I wish she was not so far away she could watch mine while we go on vacation.....some times she'll have 8 or more yorkie/poodle running around. |
My vet charges 14.99 a day per pet. and they do walks. |

So I guess here's another question: If you were leaving for vacation and needed a petsitter, would you want to leave your pet at home and have someone come to check up and feed/potty, or would you want to have your pet at the sitter's house? |

our babysitter works so that we bring Layla there... if we were keeping her overnight there... i'd have to bring a crate for her to stay in.. although i have a sneaky suspicion Layla would be on her bed :p. also i bring food and treats.. i just read an article in "bark" magazine about petsitting... i'll PM you with the details :) |
pet sitting is more complicated then you think. i do it for friends and family, people i know. However i was looking into expanding to a small business and its just more then i can handle right now. You need to be insured and bonded. You need contracts and legal documents so that if anything happens with your clients home or pets that you honestly had nothing to do with you can't be sued. If your really interested in starting this maybe try looking for a bigger company in your area and see if they will hire you. This way you can see how they do it and learn what you will need if you want to embark on your own. You can do really well in this business, and you'll love doing it but make sure you protect yourself and your clients. THere are some pretty crappy people out there that will sue for things that you didn't do or couldn't prevent. check out this book: http://www.pattimoran.com/detail.aspx?ID=11 its an excellent source of information and can be purchased at B&N or Boarders |
