One of my best friends has a pit bull and a chihuaua and they get along splendidly. I think she raised them together as pups, but I'll ask her if she has any advice. :) |

I am only trying to help her, obviously she is trying to get around her husband's want of a potentially violent animal. Especially with a small child in the home! I am only passing on information, not trying to make this a "sticky" subject! IT WOULD BE SO NICE IF YOU COULD BOTH GET WHAT YOU WANT, BUT I WOULDN'T GIVE IN TO THIS ONE!!! GOOD LUCK TO YOU AND I HOPE YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND WORK THIS OUT!!! ;) |
idk My mom's friends son has a pitbull and she is most sweetest thing ever! I don't know how they are around small dogs, because they also have 2 other big dogs but she is just soooo sweet. I can't see her hurting another dog unless to protect her owners. |

of course they are! they come out yearly to take photo's of our property for their records. it would be very hard to miss 3 custom built kennels with these dogs in them. nor is there anything in our policy forbidding them. Quote:

given the right situation EVERY animal has the potiential to kill something! the only person that ever needs to be scared of our dogs is someone attempting to hurt one of us or gain access to our property. |

I really think people should think twice before stereotyping a whole breed of dogs. Its like stereotyping all people of a certain ethnicty. |

If a dog that has been kept on a chain outside all its life with no socialization. wether is a 4 pound yorkie, or a 100 pound rottweiler, it has GREAT potential to do harm. I could control my pitt, and i know many friends with rotties, ect.. who have control over there dogs. but how many small dog owners do you see who have never taught there dog ANYTHING?! Those little dogs that yap and nip and are running around, and people think its "cute" until that lil dog hurts someone. how do you feel when people say yorkies are yappy or rats?! when i was 12, i ran away from home with my dog. and got lost around miami, well a man came up and tried to grab me, my dog gave him a bark, a growl (a fair warning) but only when i started to scream did he bite him. that dog saved my life. we ran home and when i got home i found out about the murderer on the loose, i dont know if the man was him but eether way, my pitt saved my life. I saved her from a dog fighting facility as a puppy, and she saved my life. Nothing pisses me off more than people judging pitts on media attention and bad raps. http://www.understand-a-bull.com/Her...oicPitties.htm |
OKAY for one, ANY dog can turn on someone Its all in how they are reaised and their bloodlines, Make sure thet the parents and grandparents arn't agresive dogs, My cousin raises pits and from time to time she brings her's over and it plays with my Yorkie and my 2 year old son, Like I said it is all on how you raise them. They would even be better if the are raised together! I say thats Fare! If you get yours he gets his, My hubby wants a great dane and when we close on our house he will probebly be getting one! Good luck and I hope this helps. |
Also I have heard of insurance cancleing you because of a Rot, Pit, even a Dobby, But make sure your insurance company knows that you have these dogs and if they threaten to drop you, LOOK FOR A DIFFERENT COMPANY! some will take you! |
hi i wouldn't trust a pit bull my brothers friend had one from a pup and it always wants to fight other dogs...also there are recent storys of pit bulls attacking kids and killing a child... i have a staffordshire bull terrier and she licks my yorkie cleans her and cuddles up to her all night:animal-pa |

thank you,Anna Banana. believe me when i say i was one of those people, too that had misconceptions about pit bulls, too. when my husband said that he was getting his first one i was so against it! i did not want it around my child because of the things i had heard. my little boy would go outside and this dog would take off when he saw him coming!!:p my son was just a toddler then and was so rough with him so he would run to go inside his dog house when he saw him coming out the door and would not come out as long as my son was in the yard. LOL and my son would go and try and crawl into the dog house with him!:D he could have torn his head off for invading his space but he never even growled at him. i was never worried about what the dog would do to my son - i was worried what my son would do to the dog! |
I adore pitt bulls.. If I didn't have 4 dogs, I would have loved to rescue one. I think that as long as there is extensive training on the part of the owner, pitt bulls can be WONDERFUL dogs. I know that home owners insurance can go up, but I haven't heard about it being cancelled due to owning a powerful breed. I'd get hooked up w/a trainer AND behavioralist from day one, and I would honestly go to the shelter and talk to the people there about the different pitts. They are temperament tested at shelters and the staff knows them best, so you'll know what you're getting into, IMO. I highly dislike it when people assume that big dogs or powerful breeds are worse than small dogs. I've seen many a small dog, out of control attacking their human or others... so size really plays no part in my mind. Yes, you need to be 100 percent sure you can devote the time, money, and energy into training a strong breed dog, but that doesn't mean it's a dangerous dog. I think the danger in any dog is when they are left to their own devices or not trained properly. There are no bad dogs, only bad dog owners :) |
A pit bull is a terrier, and just like Yorkies, terriers have an attitude. I believe that all dogs can be trained to be loving pets, and I hear so often that pits are great pets. But my little Yorkie can sometimes get that terrier attitude. However, she doesn't have a strong jaw and really can't hurt anyone. I just would never trust a pit 100% simply because it is a terrier. We don't let our Yorkie around our granddaughter because she snaps at little kids. Maybe the pit bull wouldn't snap, but it only takes one time! You just don't hear about people being mamed by collies or goldens or labs. :animal-pa |
well I have a 130# Rottweiler, a 20# Rat Terrier, a 8# terrier mix and my 4.8# Yorkie. The all play well together. Duke, the YT bosses everyone around. My rott was from the Humane Society and he was almost a year old when we broght him home, We already had the mix, (she is 13) then I brought home the Rat puppy last july, the rott was then 2 years old and loved playing with him. When we added the YT in November last year, he was only 2#, but all the dogs were gentle with him. It was like they knew he was a baby. Now my rott plays Big Brother to all of them. What ever you decide, Good Luck to You. Dawn:animal-pa |
