What heart pills has the vet put Tye on?
My little girl, Tansy, was diagnosed with heart failure two years ago. The vet told me to think of the time she had left to be counted in weeks rather than months, so I was devastated, she was 10 years old....young to me as all my other breed terriers had lived to be over 17.
The vet put her on Vetmedin capsules & diuretics(Frusemide) & began to give her monthly check ups. By the fourth month her heart was stronger, so she switched to check ups every two months. After a year, at her check up, the vet was listening to her heart & said that if he hadn't known about her condition, just listening to her heart he would never think there was a problem, it had improved so much. She now just sees him every six months, in between I just collect the pills. Last week was her check & there was no change, still going strong.
The difference in her on these pills has been amazing. Two years ago she could only walk for ten minutes before gasping for breath. Now she's back to playing like a puppy.
So please don't give up hope. I would never have dared to hope I would still have her with me now, let alone see how improved her condition is. | thankyou for your reply:)
tye is 13 years old and he is on frusemide prednisolone and enalapril.
tye never really got out of breath he just coughed a lot and had fluid in his lungs and then his tummy, the vet said the pills are working as his lungs and heart sound fine now but there will come a time that they wont work any longer but he cant say how long.
sasha who was tyes mum went in to heart failure very quickly, fine one day then she couldnt breath, had blue gums and i could hear fluid in her lungs, took her to vets they said her heart sounded fine and it sounded like it was just a problem with her lungs but they then did a xray and her heart was enlarged, she came home and kept falling over, couldnt breath and was blue.
that was after the first lot of pills, so different vet and they gave her more pill.
she had always had fits from age 2 but as it was only once a month they said not to worry and the meds they could give her could do more damage so best not to unless her fits got worse but when her heart was bad she was having up to 10 fits a day so i think she had been born with a heart problem that was never picked up as all the vets that had listened to her heart said it was fine.
she then after about 2 weeks on new pills had a heart attack and died but i gave her mouth to mouth and got her back, then she was given new pills again and i was told that if these pills didnt work there was no more they could do for her as some dogs take very well to heart pills but others dont.
2 weeks later she had another heart attack and i had to have her pts as there was nothing they could do:(
i think tyes heart problem is just age wheres sashas wasnt it was something she was born with.
hes doing well on the pills so it looks like hes one of the dogs it works for.:) |
