I just found this thread! I think that some outfits are really outrageous and look totally uncomfortable on dogs. But honestly Cookie loves to be dressed up in comfy casual clothes. Most of us dress our pets because we love them, want to keep them warm. If you own a tiny yorkie like I do ,most of these tinies get really cold. Cookie & Mimi get really cold if the temp goes below 72 degrees . We keep our house really cold during these months around 70-72 degrees . If I don't put a shirt on them , I will find them under a blanket or pillow somewhere. I think it really depends on the culture. I think those doggy sunglasses called Doggles are cool looking but I wouldn't put them on Cookie because they don't serve a purpose in my opinion. That is only my opinion though. I've seen two dogs wearing doggles and they look like they are totally comfortable wearing them. Genie www.littlemimi.org |
In New York City it gets very cold so we have to put sweaters on our babies. Personally I spoil my baby because, unless he needs to be fed, my 6 year old son has no need for me anymore!!!LOL Having my little yorkie enables me to give so much love to another living thing that will so willingly take all he can get! The outfits are just a fun form of creative outlet for us and they always look soooo cute. |
The doogles (doggy goggles) reminded me of a guy at our yorkie meetup this weekend. He rode on a Harley motocycle and he had his 5 lb yorkie male in a leather dog carrier on the front of the bike with just his head sticking out. It was the cutest thing ever!! My camera chose that minute for the battery to die!! Anyway, this little guy had the doogles and they really do serve a purpose for dogs who love to let the wind whip them in the face. It is bad for their eyes not to have protection. I take Hefner sailing on our sailboat so he has a pair of the doogles too. |

We have some stores that sell clothes for dogs but who buys them I don't know - never seen one with clothes. And Yorkieluv_delux - great to see you - I never thought I would see another danish yorkieowner below the age of 60! :D |
kewtee: That's great that you are keeping an open mind about clothes for Yorkies. I'm sure you must find a lot of people that think psychotherapy is bogus. Putting clothes on a dog is very odd, and I always thought people that put clothes on their dogs were kooky too, until we got a Yorkie. Clothes do serve a good purpose in the winter time or when it's cold out, my Yorkie at least can get cold very fast (especially if he has a puppy cut and is shaved down). This can be dangerous for their health, as they can get hypoglycemia. But the more pictures I saw of Yorkies and other dogs with clothes on, the cuter I thought it was. Our Yoda quickly got some clothes of his own, and he does indeed like it. In fact, he likes his collars and other jewelry that we put on him too. In fact, he looks forward to it in the morning when he wakes up, and looks up to our dresser and barks for his jewelry. :) It is unnatural for dogs to wear clothes, but when it serves a purpose and doesn't harm them in any way, it can be a good thing. |
I love putting clothing, shoes, hats, and cute hair clips on my girls 1 yorkie and 1Maltese. Buffy the yorkie has a thick coat so she gets very hot in the summer. Melissa is slim so she use to slip out of them, but I make adjustment so she can't anymore. They have their winter and summer wardrobe. I started making them dress and shirts, just for fun and also because i do care if it fits right and its going to be comfortable for them. They get a lot of attention when we go out, I enjoy it. |
Hi! all, just noticed this thread, i think each to there own, but i like Ted just the way he looks in his own cute fur.... :) |
Looked at the net for yorkie stuff in Denmark and found these: http://loppetjansen.dk/product_info....oducts_id=2307 I might give it a try for starters. Who had a picture of a feathered collar? I want that too :) |

My personal opionion is that I appreciate the work everyone did on getting the thread set up listing all the clothes sites. Maggie is very short and tiny. She now has things THAT FIT to keep her comfortable in cool, wet, stormy, hot, etc. days. |
1 Attachment(s) This is missy dressed up. she loves it and bobo likes to weatr jammies. the other dogs growl at him cause they don't have any. lol |
Kewtee, I have to tell you that my fiancé agrees with you! He is definately embarassed that I insist dressing Sydney up...and I'm not even as into it as some of the fashion plates on here. Syd only wears tee-shirts (no dresses). I guess that may be because he's a 6 foot, 200 lb. "manly man"...and walking our dog in a pink tee-shirt that says "Daddy's Girl" with a matching hair bow makes him feel funny. Personally I think he should just get over it. ;) But anyway...dressing her started because we have very cold winters and I didn't want her to freeze when we went outside to potty. But now (summer) she just looks so darn cute that I can't help myself. By the way...what thread is everybody refering to about the dog clothing sites? I can't find it. |
My only thing with putting clothes on Jerry is that living in the south...its kind of hot for him.....he does have a few sweaters and shirts for when it gets cold though. Michael |
Actually I have a confession to make! I dress my dog! The reason I forgot all about it in this context was of course that dressing up to me is the dog wearing an actual dress, t-shirts and hats. I will show you a picture of Kali in her wintercoat - when it rains and snows in winter I dress her in this - and she hates it! http://www.metteogthomas.dk/images/vuffer/jakke1.jpg I tried buying some boots but they fell off the instant I put them on her - even with velcro. We decided sometime during winter to try and walk her without the coat and she never was cold at all - she is after all a dog and build "to last". I still think a raincoat is a good thing and will buy one for no. 2 - but that's also convinient for me, since I won't have to spend forever drying them when they have been out in the rain.... Here we are in our thermosuits - "mother and daughter" :p Wearing that outfit really made my friends laugh but it is the only right thing when living here where it gets really cold in winter! http://www.metteogthomas.dk/images/sne.jpg |
