I would think of it as a personal expression...Just as we choose clothes for ourselves based on things we like...and also it is just plain FUN. I did not think you were critizing in your post just asking. It does seem to alot of people to be a silly thing to do but actually smaller yorkies sometimes need extra warmth. for instance by Silk girl is only 4lbs and has a very thin coat. I would imagine that 50 degrees might be confortable for us but for a 4lb dog...I think not. She actually started to loose hair on her ears and nose because yorkies are more subceptable to Leather ear...a fungus condition that stems from cold weather. So it helps her to stay warm. I too at first thought it was silly but have changed my thoughts and I love to pick out things for both of my dogs and I don't care now if others think it is Silly. Heck my husband laughs at me but I don't care. I love them and I love buying things for them...it makes me happy. Chris |

I have to laugh because the first time I put on a jogger for Remmy he would not move...he does not mind clothing but I have since learned that he does not like it on his hind legs. I have attached a pic of him in his jogger. |
3 Attachment(s) Here in Holland its something very new to dress up a dog, i do it because my family likes it, our friends had never seen a dog dressed up and i can honestly tell u that i think i started a dressup puppy fever, my cousin and a friend of mine have now got yorkiebabies and are coming to me to find out which sites sell etc.. we love our babies like we love our kids, i only have a son of 13 years and have always wanted a little girl, but that wasnt meant to be, now i have 2 furbabies Chelsey is 6 months and she LOVES her clothes, she knows she looks pretty and she knows she gets a lot of attention from other people, a friend of my son's mother surprised me big time as i thought they were a very ( dutch ) and set in their beliefs kind of family, she is very crafty and made Chelsey the cutest little jersey for cold evenings, how sweet is that? I get so many nice compliments from strangers here that im amazed! Life is good, never worry about what others might think or say, its YOUR life and u live it the way U want to. ;) |
Awww Remmy looks so cozy in his joggers and Chelsey, Chelsey and Chanel look gorgeous as always! I always look at everyone elses babies in their clothes and get a little jealous! Its not just the T shirt, she hates all clothes! After the T shirt fiasco, we tried to put a sock on her scratching foot. That lasted less than 30 seconds before she tore it off. We then tied it on with ribbon, less than a minute. She hates sticky tape so we tried that next, it stayed on about an hour which was better but I bet if she couldn't get it off she would have knawed her leg off. Also, when she had her first season we tried a little pair of pants with the same results. We then put them on her teddy and she took them off! She just hates clothes! |

2 Attachment(s) I bet if she will where the harness vest she would wear a dress that is similar, the only diffrence is that it is long in the back, but other than that it is just like the vest. I actully took the design from a harness vest/dress |
Just curious... Do people in other countries put bows in their yorkie's hair? And how about a pretty collar or harness, is that frowned upon too? |
I put clothes on my yorkie cause shes my baby. I don't have any kids yet.. so I like to spoil her. I have a male yorkie, but I got teased for putting bows in his hair. So, I bought a female.. and I don't get teased for doing it to her. I get awww's all the time. AND she LOVES to wear clothes! My male and female have matching faux suede jackets. I don't make them wear them all the time.. just for pictures or when we go out. Everyone gets jealous cause they don't have one to dress up. |
Marlee that is a good point, but Im gonna have a go and maybe I will then be able to trick her in to a dress! And by the way that dress is so cute and your baby looks gorgeous in it! Pretty collars I have seen. At the moment Lucy has a plain red one, but I want to get her a pretty sparkly one when I have the money. Ive not seen any pretty harnesses or bows over here and we do have a lot of yorkies near us, most of them girls, maybe I can get Lucy to be a trendsetter! |
My goodness! All I have to say is that all of your posts were quite interesting! I put sweaters on my gurls when it's cold out, because they are in the house all of the time and aren't used to being outside, summer excluded, of course! They like wearing them, too, so they don't get too cold. I also have raincoats because they don't especially like to get wet in the rain! So, I say, to each his own! |
I am 51 years old. I had 2 daughters out of 4 children. I dressed them in ribbons and lace when they were little because I knew that when they were old enough to make their own clothing choices it would be pants and shirts. I am now raising my 3 oldest grandchildren as my own and when the girls(2) were little they too wore ribbons and lace. When they reach school age you have to change what they wear or risk them being laughed at. I made a dress for Autumn and I think she looks completely adorable in it. It's not perfect but she loves the attention she gets when she wears it. I will be making more clothes but with so many people in our house (13) my sewing machine and accessories are in danger. The other day I bought a couple of baby shirts and put them on Pirogue, it schickled the tick out of him. He was so excited he just ran and ran around the room. I didn't know he wanted clothes!! All the kids are wanting me to put clothes on Lady but I tell them she is nursing Matty and I won't do it until Matty is weened. I think that in my case it is safe to say I still have a thing for dressing up dolls. It helps alot that the "dolls" can express their apprieciation for my efforts. LOL Sylvia |
Kewtee-- Maybe you can start a new trend in Denmark! lol I haven't started dressing up Fred yet. Not until the little booger gets a groomin'! But, I can see why people dress up their dogs. They look soooo adorable in summer dresses and little t-shirts with "Bitches <3 me". I chuckle everytime I see things like that because those little dogs are so adorable!! Now, if I see a horse or cow in a shirt.. that'd be questionable. Or, even big giant dogs dressed up. But toy dogs are just SO freakin' cute!!! :p |
imo In my opinion dressing up your pooch is a fun way for both owners and dogs to spend time and not to mention money. I feel that it states individuality! being that i volenteer at an animal shelter, help raise puppys and do alot of seamstress work for my friends and family, i feel every dog should feel unique and different, and not only be classified as a breed of dog but as a type, like girly sporty, cutsey ect.. i am always making doggy clothes and bed slip covers. my advice to you, the person who started this post, is to go shopping and buy your little baby some stylish clothing! i know alot of people on this site who are exselent at making clothes and am considering shipping my designs as well. |
i think the dogs like being dressed up brownie prances around like ""i look handsome how you like my shirt lol""" he gets an additude like hes better then everyone else lol |
Walmart has dog clothes! The prices are like $3.00 for some cute shirts. Try the small-- it seems about right. They are al tee shirts with sayings that are cute! |
