Outlaw tail docking. Here in the UK, govermant are at the moment deciding on wether to pass a bill on banning tail docking.I dont no how to put up a web link but if you can try and get into this website and scroll down to tail docking you should find some more information on what they are saying. gm.tv . Id like to hear some of your opions on this as I dont no wether i should get Missys new litters tails docked.  |
I'm all for banning tail docking. They've got lovely tails - swishing behind them like big banners. There's a bill before select committee here too. I hope it's passed. They're no longer working dogs - in that they are not sent down rat holes - so there is no rationale for docking them. Aside from aesthetic - which, to me at least, is not a reason to go surgically altering an animal. I think the arguments put forward by Kennel Clubs everywhere are specious. I know others on this site disagree but that is my honest feeling on the matter. Dougal's not docked and I love his tail. Dixie was docked before I knew about her - if I had been in contact with the breeder before she was born I would have said leave the tail. |
Missy has a tail, Boots does'nt. Just say that outta my new litter there was a puppy that had showing quialty and i wanted to show him/her, would this be allowed by the kennel clubs. |
You'd have to check the breed standard for your kennel club. the New Zealand kennel club has the requirement of docking - so if the tail wasn't docked that would mean points off. If they passed a law banning docking then the breed standard would have to change. Here's the NZ breed standard: http://www.nzkc.org.nz/br164.html It would seem that Dixie's tail has been docked too short - she only has a tiny little nub of a tail. Poor baby. |
I think many breeders prefer them docked, but as the owner of two pet-quality Yorkies with docked tails, I say let 'em grow. |

Next time we get a Yorkie I will plan ahead and ask the breeder not to dock ours. Tails give them an extra outlet for expression. Unless you have to (for showing), I'd say don't. |
In alot of other countries, they prefer the tails to be intact, not docked. There was a thread about this awhile ago, but I can't seem to find it. For showing in the US, docking is preferred for sure. My yorkie has a docked tail which I think is so cute, but I think yorkies with full tails look cute too! No need in cutting off part of their tails just for looks. |
I prefer the tail docked. |
I'm for banning docking too. I love their tails. My first Yorkie had hers. I still love my little boy with his docked tail but if I could have been the one to decide...he would not have been docked. |
I dont realy mind if the tails are docked or not. But i soppose i have a bit af a dillema wether to dock or not, i need to make my mind up for tomorrow though. Im sorta swayed to keep the tails, now that people are fighting to ban this practice. Oh I dont no..... |
I like the tails! I'm definity for banning the docking of tails |
I have a morkie (yorkie/maltese)......they left her tail on and it is beautiful.............it is long and it curls up on top of her. Love it......it add alot to her........ :) |

i prefer them docked. I dont think it should be banned. |
I love the look of the docked tails, but if I had my choice I would not dock them. |
