HI, This is my first time on this website. I have a new Yorkie (12 weeks old) and she has her tail. She is also a "pet " and not a show dog. My previous Yorkie had a docked tail.....both are wonderful! I think this website is great and will be able to help my with all my questions! I had my first yorkie for 14 1/2 years and did not have a chance to talk with other yorkie owners. Does anyone else have a yorkie with droopy ears??:animal-pa |
I don't think it should become banned. If you don't like docked tails, you don't have to have them docked, but I think it should be a choice, not a law. Just my opinion. |

ditto that.... When I joined YT I asked this question. At that time, there was a huge uproar and the conversation got quite heated. Most people wanted to stay with the docked tails. Since that time, there appears to be a lot more acceptance of the undocked tails. I think it is only a matter of time before it is not allowed here. It might be 5 years, it might be 50 years, but I think it will happen. |

Once you figure out your way around, you'll have to post pictures of your pup on the My Yorkie forum. |
To me It is about choice......I want the choice. I prefer docking. I happen to like how the Yorkie carries the shorter tail..of course, I am interested in showing, and the AKC requires it.........I was talking to a someone at the show yesterday that said that very thing came up in a recent show and the Yorkie was "released" before the competition started, and the other one was put to the very end of the line up.......so was considered "last" by the judge. :) |

I have a Yorkie with droopy ears, does your new Yorkie have droopy ears? if so you can still fix them. |
Regarding the tails I have mix feeling. I always thought Buffy's tail was too short, but sooo cute. When I got Duncan the breeder told me over the phone that the vet had cut his tail too short, so I thought no big deal its little like Buffy's. Way wrong Duncan's tail is maybe the size of the top part of my little finger, it does not wag and will not grow or will ever wag the nerve was damaged  . I cried at first for him, but after a while he made it ok. I can tell when he is happy or excited about something without having to wag a tail . So for this reason given a choice I would say "Leave The Tail Alone, Thank U" |

Well I have mixed feelings also, Lexie is docked but left longer and I love it she has a prisy walk and that little tail goes straight up.. Bear is docked not much to it and I wish it was longer......I like them longer....:) IMO its just gives them that extra something...:) |

I was under the impression that the law had already gone through Parliament here & comes into effect at the beginning of April. They were saying last night, on the broadcast from Crufts, that from 1st April it will become illegal to dock. The Kennel Club is banning from shows any docked dog born in the UK after April 1st this year. So come October all puppies eligible for show must be undocked. But, from what I understood, they are also banning entries for shows of any docked dogs from abroad from April, no matter when they were born. If so it will have a big effect, especially on Crufts, as there are many dogs from abroad entered this year in various breeds, including the American champion Scottish Terrier, another docked breed, that came fourth in the terrier group. |
I prefer a docked tail. I docked my last litter myself (clamp/twist method) and had them a longer length...not a little nub. I think that longer docked tails are beautiful...the hair grows long and looks like a flag with all of the hair hanging down. If a law ever passes here to eliminate tail docking, then I will abide. Until there, I will continue to dock tails and remove the dew claws. |
