anals [QUOTE=Yorkie_GirL]I took Oreo to the groomers once, and i watched and everything. ever since then i've been grooming my babies all the time, from baths, to haircuts, to nail trimmings... the only thing i quite haven't mastered yet is expressing the anal glands, once i do that, i'm all set! :p QUOTE] I had a breakthrough just this morning with expressing her anal glands. My discovery was that I was squeezing too low. The glands (at least on Syd) are above the actual opening, more toward her tail. This explains why I could never get it to work before. They were really bothering her...so I got all kinds of kisses for getting it right finally. :) |

I have Wahl trimmers - 1" blade - and I have a moustach trimmer... and I have a little 1/4" trimmer ...and between these 3 I'm all set - I also use a deMatting comb and one of the trimmer/thinners that look like a comb ? They sell them for pets but I happen to have the human ones and they work fine - and no - I'm no pro - Chanel just has so much hair I was going broke taking her in ...then coming home wondering why I spent so much money for something I knew I could do myself - plus she likes it. Sally's Beauty Supply has them really cheap - |

Hmmm! Quote:
I put one finger on each side of the opening, press inward so that my fingers are almost behind the mass of skin (the ball) and squeeze gently and roll outward. But today when I got it to work I focused more on the top of the ball (toward the tail). Even though it was bothering her (A LOT) only a little came out (a spot about the size of a pencil eraser on the tissue). I guess it's because she is just so small. Good luck...and just try gently at first. I'm sure you won't hurt your baby. I really wanted to learn to do this myself...b/c my vet charges $15 to do it. Isn't that insane? |
