I waited over a year for mine, but it was well worth it. You can put your name in at the shelters and put down what kind of dog your looking for and they call you when one comes in. A lot of their dogs are also in foster care, and so when you go in to look at the dogs, generally the small ones are in someones home instead of those stalls. |

Just wanted to add a comment here :) Not all yorkie poo's are less expensive than yorkies :) My yorkie poo was 1,000 (which I would never pay again for a cross now that I know better).. and I could have gotten a yorkie for less than that :) Since the designer mixes are so in demand right now, they're charging more than purebreds half the time! |

Good luck in your search. Decide on whatever you like after reading and ask questions because at the end of the day, you are the one that is going to take care of your dog and love the dog. Choose your breeder well because that goes a long way. I didn't know better but it is important. Any dog you are getting, an adopted dog, designer or purebred; be sure to love it as much as you can as his life depend on you. I am a huge dog lover and I'd prefer to adopt; mix or pure breed doesn't matter. Just know their characteristic of the breed and make sure they are what you want and what you can live with, shedding and all. |
1 Attachment(s) I have a yorkiepoo, her name is Trixie. And she does not shed. I have allergies towards dogs and I have no problems when I am around her like I do with my cocker spaniel. She is 9 pounds which is still small. Her dad was a yorkie and her mom was a minature poodle which explains her size. Her personalty is one of a kind. She is hyper and loves playing and running but she can also calm down and cuddle with you, she is super friendly and loves giving kisses. She is really smart, I had her potty trained in such a short time, I only wish my yorkies potty trained that fast and easy, lol!! She learns at a fast rate and is always willing to please. In fact, don't tell my other dogs this, but she is the smartest dog in the house. She has no health problems. I paid $500 for her and would do it again in a heartbeat. I don't have any problems with people mixing yorkies and poodles as long as they do their research and take responsibilty and only want the best for the dogs and doesn't sell them at a outrageous price. $500 to me is a good price, $1000 however is over priced, IMO. I don't support breeding all mixes, yorkiepoos and morkies happen to be the two that I like because believe they have alot to offer. I could never have gotten a small mix breed at our pound. Only big dogs come in and there is such a long waiting list for a small dog that when they do come in they are already taken. Let's just say I know someone who is actively on a waiting list for a small dog to come in and it has been over two years and she still isn't at the top of the list yet. They also have very strict rules when adopting, some of the rules are even ridiculous. So around here, rescuing isn't always an option. Her is a picture of my Trixie. She is actually chocolate and tan but you can't see it in the pictures. And she doesn't have as big of a muzzle or nose as it looks in the picture, her nose and muzzle are actually the same size as my yorkies. |
yorkiepoos well its nice to hear that others are loving and enjoying their yorkiepoos as much as i enjoy mine, i only wish i had kennel trained him from the beggining which i tried but i couldnt get him to quit his whining and crying as he wanted to get out, so needless to say he still has accidents, but not as frequently as i keep him on the bed with me until its time to go out. and it seems to be working. as far as paying 500.00 dollars for a mixed breed i have to agree with the last persons comments about it, thats outrageous! I thought I paid an outrages price of 300.00 for mine, but i guess as she said its the almighty dollar that takes presidence!!. I guess millions of people are paying for it out of frustration of not finding them in the pounds or at least many pounds. and again its still a lot cheaper than the thousands their asking for the purebreds. but if I had to pay 500.00 or more for a mixed breed id just rather keep the breeds pure and pay the extra 500 or so for them. not that these mixed breeds are not really nice dogs and maybe even better tempermented being that they have mixed temperments. but all and all we have enough dogs sitting in the pounds just waiting for a loving home and if you can handle a little larger dog and have the yard for them, by all means help those poor pups out! I just couldnt handle a larger dog and have found many pound dogs to have unknown backgrounds who at times have come out being mean tempered or having emotional problems due to the abuse many of them go through. (past experience with such dogs). BUt if i had the time and money I would take every single one of those pound dogs, put them through training to help them get over their problems and love every single one of them no matter how homely, sickly or troubled they were. I can no longer go to the pound as it breaks my heart to know i can only take one when they all need homes! maybe one day i can afford to do this and be their to rescue all the worst and least apt to be adopted. so please if there is any chance of being able to take a pound dog and help him through whatever he needs, by all means do so!! i personally just couldnt afford the dog whisperer to come to help me with my past dogs. but A a lot of love and patients will do the same on many of these dogs. |

LOVE MY "MORKIE" Blessings to all... |
...but no one said anything about the yorkie-poo mix. I have a yorkie-poo (see my avatar) and she is the love of my life. Abs no shedding what-so-ever and has the most amazing personality. She is only 3 mos as of now, but im looking for a groomer- I would 100% recommend the yorkie-poo, however the thing that really matters is the actual dog and the percentage from their breeding. I'm sure youll find pluses and minuses for any type of dog- try to go open-minded... its the personality (and specific traits youre looking for ie.doesn't shed) that you'll fall in love with. Best of Luck and enjoy! |

good luck on your search!!!! i have a purebread yorkie whom i adore, but my mother used to have a poodle and he was an amazing dog, so i could imagine them being mixed would be awesome as well. either way, you will find the one you are supposed to have!! good luck!!:) |
I have a shih-poo. He has more of a shih tzu coat and sheds quite a bit. My friend also has a shih-poo that has more of a poodle coat and he doesn't shed. It's hard to tell with the mixed breeds what gene's they will get. Good luck with your decision. |
I have a Yorkie-poo. He is the best. He has a great personality, never complains. He is so smart and easy to train. He is friendly and loves to cuddle( and does not shed) . I waited so long to get a dog and had so many expectations; he did not disappoint. I would say yorkie poodle mixes are great:thumbup: |
yorkie poo 1 Attachment(s) Hi I was reading all the massages on here and I to have a Yorkie Poo. She is everything you guys have said! I love her so much and when I first went looking for a new pet I now that I wanted a Yorkie. I intended on getting a pure but the prices were just out rages and I just could not put myself to making that purchase. I could not believe that much for a dog. I was getting discouraged and my husband was looking online and found the bread Yorkie Poo's I thought that some of them were cute and I still thought that since they were mixed with Yorkie them they would cost a lot too. I found a add in the Newspaper for puppies at $250.00 I was like wow I can afford that price and I called the lady and she told me a little bit about them, so I went to see them and I feel in love. I almost ended up with a little boy because that was all they were showing me. I told them I really wanted a girl. They had one left but they wanted to keep her, but told me that I could take her anyway. I was so excites and I still am. Amber is just perfect and she loves us so much. I could not have been any happier with my pick. |
Yorkie Poos are so Cute |
I too thought about gettin a Yorkie poo or anyhting mixed with a Yorkie for that matter. Just look at all the options. The mix breeds are not always cheaper than the purebred. The thing that made my mind up to just go for the Yorkie is that when mixing 2 purebreds together, you can never be guaranteed the utcome of the look. Like the hair, you don't know if it will be long or short or shed or not and any other physical feature. At least when I bought a Yorkie, I had a general idea of the look of my dog. Then like I said why not go ahead a pay just a little bit more to get what you truly want! Godd luck in your decision madking. You can also go to dogster and put in Yorkie of the primary breed and what ever else you might want for the secondary breed and see what some JR-yorkies look like and some yorki-poos look like and that may help you too! :aimeeyork |

1 Attachment(s) Go w/ a mix if you want a mix. Purebreds are no better than a mix. They are easy to house train, and very smart. And if you go w/ a yorki-poo or whatever mix you have two great dogs rolled into one. Some people say they are healthier, and less expensive too. I have a Morkie, and she is the best !!! Housetrained, only have to say something once and she does it. Stays w/ me in the yard and does not run away......AWESOME DOG !!!!!!! Whatever is best for you ............... |
I would not by a mixed breed, The Yorkie is a wonderful little lap dog, non shedding and a wonderful personality! Why do you want a mix with a yorkie? |

Yorkiepoo I have a 13 year old minerature poodle and a 10 year old yorkie. I love them both dearly, but if I ever got another dog, I would certainly go with a yorkiepoo. My poodle is more willing to lay down with me and sleep no matter how much sleep she has had during the day. She was much better at housetraining, too, where he is still a challenge. They both need attention paid to their teeth so in that regard, they are the same. He is much more demanding of attention but would let me dress him up in doll clothes if I wanted to and dance around the room, where she is more nervous. I can only think the combination of the two would be wonderful no matter which half was more dominant! |
I have a yorkipoo, her name is nelly and I would not trade her for anything. I do not think you know what you are getting no matter what kind of dog you get because in my opinion they are all one of a kind and they gain their personality when they finally come and live with you. Nelly is so funny just her look is priceless. She is spoiled rotten. Never kennel trained, has her own seat at the table, which is totally my husbands fault, because she has the man wrapped and I might add that he is not a dog lover at all. She just has this I am so feeble and innocent act yes ACT, under all of that innocence is a little evil personality. She sure adds to my day. She does not shed, and as for potty training, she is 1 1/2 and still has a few accidents but so do the purebreds and as you can see from my avatar she has alot of the yorkie look. I would definitely get another, and everyone has their own preference. I was gonna get a purebred as well but when a friend sent nelly's picture I was hooked. |
I am so glad to hear so many positive things about the yorkie-poo! I am getting one in the middle of October (he/she was just born yesterday!) and I couldnt be more thrilled. I have heard wonderful things and I am happy with my choice. For those of you who are wondering why anyone would want to mix a yorkie, its just to be different. Also, the yorkiepoo I am getting is much cheaper. Finally, I personally like the look of the yorkiepoos. I dont want a tiny one, as I dont want to hurt it! I think yorkies are adorable and poodles are very smart so Im hoping to get the best of both worlds! And I know I will love the dog no matter what...and I think if you have that attitude you cant go wrong with any breed! |
New here & I have 2 Yorkie Chi's Hello. New here. I have 2 precious Yorkie Chi's and they are the best dogs. They are 9 months old.. brother and sister. They look like all black yorkies. My decision to buy one was because I like Yorkies and my oldest daughter likes chihuahuas. Imagine my surprise when I was able to locate a breeder who had a mixture of the 2 dog breeds. I bought the brother and turned around and went back after the sister. I have never regretted it. Don't be fooled by people who assume a mix breed is less, not always true. In my case alone, perhaps an exception, but I paid $1100 each for my precious dogs. You can locate a pure bred Yorkie all over the place, but you cannot locate a Yorkie-Chi everywhere you look. So with that being said, a mix breed is awesome for those wanting to mix two precious dogs. Also a Yorkie Chi (also called a Chorkie) is recognized by the AKC as a designer Hybrid dog... and my dogs are AKC registered. Yorkie Poo's are precious dogs as well. I just wanted to add that to this. I have been looking at this website and reading the forums ever since I got my pups. :animal36 |

Excuse me for making a mistake................. Oh my goodness LOL... slow down, lie down, whatever. Geez. I am sorry that I said akc, I absolutely meant ACHC. I do not lie and it is a shame that you would suggest that I do. I am new to this YT and here I have been called a liar within the 5 mins I have joined. Wow. Here is the correct info so that you can sleep tonight! American Canine Hybrid Club recognizes all hybrids produced from purebred ancestry, preferably registered with a recognized registration service. A hybrid dog is a mix between two or more purebred dogs (usually two). Just like a purebred club, the purpose of the ACHC is to keep track of parentage and ancestry of these hybrid dogs. If you buy a ACHC registered dog, you will know exactly what breeds are in your dog. This is obviously not the friendly place I thought it was. :thumbdown |
