Gus was this tiny little chunky thing. He reminded me of Gus Gus. The fat mouse from Cinderella |
we named tucker, tucker after a vet who tried to save our RB yorkie bandit. |
Schatzie is German and means little treasure or darling. She came to us after the loss of our Yorkie Half-Pint. I have enjoyed reading all the stories on their fur babies names. Very sweet. :aimeeyork |
Pippa was named by my daughter, Alyssa...funny story. When Alyssa was 3 years old she decided her name was not Alyssa, it was Pippa-and we should all address her as such. I don't know where she came up with it at all, even though I have heard that Kelly Ripa is sometimes referred to as Pippa by Regis, and there is a barbie doll named Pippa in England. Anyway, we only called Alyssa "Pippa" for a short time until it wore off. As soon as she got baby girl Yorkie, she said, "this is PIPPA!!' It kinda came full circle. As for Scout, my favorite literary character is Scout Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird. Even though Scout Finch is a girl in the book, I thought it was a cute name for our little boy. I didn't think anyone would get "Jem Finch". LOL I still haven't figured out a name for his AKC papers...I'm thinking "T & M's Scout's Honor" Any other suggestions? |
We wanted to give our little darling a really cute name because she is so adorable. I love Walt Disney and we tried to find a suitable name among the Disney characters. First we were thinking of Bambi, but that's more of a boy's name, so it became Bella after Bell in "The beauty and the Beast" (which also means beautiful/pretty in Italian).. It's kind of funny, but when my hubby is taking Bella for a walk alone he must be careful about shouting Bella out loud, Italian girls could get offended :D hehe |
I named my baby Susan because it seems like a cheerful, sunshiny name to me. I always think of sunshine, straw hats, sunflowers, zinnas along a picket fence and golden raisins (maybe the Sunkist Maid?) whenever I hear the name Susan. It makes me happy just to say it. So I gave it my baby girl. |
The other Simon yorkie on the board pretty much told me it was his name when I rescued him. Since my other rescue is easilly 60 pounds and named Delilah, I thought it would be funny to name him Sampson, but he wasn't having none of that. So he is just my Simon Pickle. Granted he'll answer to anything if it means a belly rub lol. Jeni |

I am absolutely obsessed with that movie...you have no idea. I want my wedding at Cinderella's castle in Disneyworld. On topic though, we named Lucy after the Beatle's song "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds". We got Linus, and because Lucy is a Peanut's character too, we decided that was a good theme I guess. I love Charles Schultz and have since I was little. |
this is the cutest thread! I named Olivia after a cat I saw in a magazine. I just thought the name was cute. her kennel name is little miss liv it up |

her full name is Lucia Grace Antoinette, but I'm the only one that actually calls her that (usually when I'm angry.. or i'll just say "lucia" if i'm coo-cooing her name) |
Since I collect Bears it seemed only appropriate that our new baby should go by the name Teddy. |
I call my yorkie "Veggiemite" :) |
When I first saw Maggie I knew instantly that was her name. I've taught dance for about 4 years now and my favorite (i know i know, i hsouldn't choose) little girl of all time was named Maggie. She was 3 and just sooo sweet! It's funny how it worked out because I had 2 of my friends with me and they thought I should name her Maggie because of our college dining hall (both fresh. and soph. year), Margaret Boyd dining hall. We always pretended that good ol' Margaret was the best thing since sliced bread. But yeah.. Mags has a few reasons her name is what it is! plus, Maggie Mae... you know, the beatles? |
My husband named our yorkie. He has this way about him and D/H said "Well, looks like Doberman Dudley will take on anything. Dudley was trying to chase this 20 pound cat out of our yard. He was only 12 weeks old and no bigger than a mouse! Anyway the name stuck. |
I am on a theme kick with my pets my 2 year old black cats name is Mercedes, he's smooth and sleek just like the car so when I got my Yorkie I knew she had to go along with the name game and Porscha fit for her! Though the bad thing is I call her Porka, I guess b/c she can eat a lot! |
Mini was already named when I got her when she was six months old. I didn't want to change it because she would already have so many new things to get used to, I couldn't see making her change her name. However, her name was Minnie Me but I'm not an Austin Powers fan so I changed only the spelling to Mini because she is so small. Thus, we now have Mini. (More appropriate is Mighty. Ha Ha) |
Turbo Charge my 6 year old male was already named when I got him. Little Bear 12 year old female - I named her little bear because she looks exactly like one of those old fashioned teddy bears. Nugget - new baby - I named her Nugget because she loves jewellery especially the gold nugget I wear around my neck. |
Macie was named after my 1st dog who passed away in April after 15 yrs. His name was Mason and sometimes I would call him Masie or Mase. I thought it was a nice tribute and it would help me keep his memory alive. |
I named Daisy her name as it seemed to suit her. I first wanted to call her Maddie or Maggie but she is definately a Daisy. I named my new pup Bear as I was was stumped to pick a name that suited him. I wanted maybe Indigo (Indy for short) since yorkies turn to blue and gold. Hubby said he looked liked a chubby polar bear and wanted to call him Polar, I was not too sure about that...but then we decided on Bear. |
puppy name My friend and I went to look at the puppies at the breeder. The breeder asked for a name so she could call him that before I picked him up. I could not come up with anything in such a short time. On the way home we brainstormed names outloud and laughed at some of the choices. Then my friend said how about Louie or Charlie (after Charlie Brown). I like that name and thought he would be Charlie, but then she was trying to rhyme names and she said Huey. Right away we both knew that would be the name to fit him. And it has, even though everyone at work calls him killer. They think it is funny. He still is my little baby Huey. |
harley was named after a gorgeous boxer that the owner brought to see me at work one day. I just liked the name, no motorcyles, etc. My last yorkie was named Dexter - from the character on Dynasty. My best friends yorkie was Alexa. Our border collie is Allie - my husband named her Our lab I named Monster because he is such a big boy. My husband adopted him and he was almost 90 lbs at a year old. |
Really enjoying thiss chat about names..I pick up my baby boy next weekend (with any luck).....thinking about Spike, Spencer, Tucker, Barkley, or Nils. Got an old playpen today at a garage sale....$3. Plan to crate train him...hope that is the best way. Mary |
Two of my dogs came already named and two we named. Sam and Willie already had their names for awhile so it didn't seem right to change them and they fit them just fine. My Chihuahau was named Daisy but we changed it to Chiquita to sound more Mexican and we thought more fitting for a Mexican breed. My tiny female Yorkie we named "Bitsy" because........she was so bitsy. Now we think it should have been Busy as she's super hyper. :thumbs_up |
Thank you for your information,......I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited to get my new baby. Have a call in to the breeder asking about his knees, hip joints, trachea, etc. YIKES..........worry, worry !!!! Mary |
Duke got his name because my husband said that a prince is usually called (DUKE). So I thought yep thats it! |

Lexi is short for Lexus Star because she cost so much and her Mom's name is Star! Max is short for Maxamillion Bordreaux (Bordreaux after his Dad) I did n't get Tia's paper to know what her registered name will be but Tia was after Tea Leoni |
Punkin's Name Punkin Puss was named after a cartoon that I used to watch when I was a little girl...The Magilla Gorilla Show...they used to have cartoons in between "Mush Mouse and Punkin Puss" was one of them and one of my favorites... :-) My fiance and I looked at another yorkie the other day..a male and I said if we get another Yorkie...his name will have to be Mush Mouse :-) we are thinking about it!!! :aimeeyork |
Starsky We got Starsky in Hutchinson Kansas. Hence the name Starsky Hutchinson. We went to Kansas on a beautiful day in April. We came home in a horrible blizzard in April. We had to stay in a motel on our way home due to the fact the roads closed. We almost named him Blizzard or white out from the weather. But we stuck with Starsky from Hutchinson Kansas. The only grief we get is where or who is Hutch! No Hutch here. Starsky is almost 8 months old. Our Beagle is name Haggis. My husband told us we could get a dog if he could name him. My husband is a Scot so the name had to go somewhat towards his Heritage. Haggis is 6 yrs old So we have a Starsky and Haggis? no Hutch! |
Trixie was already named by the breeder. She told us we could change her name and I was thinking about it for a bit. But then I noticed she already listened to her name... Besides, I am from the Netherlands and our queen's name is Beatrix. So it could be patriotic ;) (I let my family believe I named her after the queen...) |
