Sibelle is 2 pounds and she was spayed last week . It doesn't bothered her at all . She is bossing the others as usual . |
We have goldens .boy and girl, and our boy ralphie.all have been fixed. in all cases, i think it made them better...no change in personality. the little weight scares me though..i would make sure you have a vet that knows little dogs well and uses isoflorane gas.sorry for the funny type..this is being done with one finger, as ralph is sleeping on my lap and one hand.. |
Not at all. The only change I saw was for the better. Lex was neutered in December and other than a bit of discomfort that night we brought him home he was back to himself the following day. The good thing is that he household marking and sometimes humping stopped all together. Lulu is going to be be spayed in another four months or so. I want her to have one heat and then I will do it plus she is so small so the vet and I think it's best to wait some. When I had my male cat I had him neutered as well and it never changed him at all. Good luck. |

Just wanted to add..... The vet told us it was very important to make sure her blood work was good prior to her surgery due to her being SO SMALL. That is the only caution I heeded prior to her reschedule. We checked it three (3) times in all. Just to be on the safe side. Just make sure all looks good. |
Annie was spayed at 7 months old and she is the same old spunky girl as she was at six months, 2 years laters :D |
Gracie was spayed at 6 months. It was like it never happened. She has not changed one bit. |
I would go ahead and definitely have her spayed before she goes into first heat. If a dog is spayed before she goes into heat for the first time there is virtually no chance of her uterine or overian cancer and greatly reduces her chances of developing mammary cancer. Right now our Bichon (who is 20 yrs old) is dying of mammary cancer and its devestating. All our other dogs have been spayed. Delaney Jade was spayed at 12 wks old a just a bit over 2 lbs... maybe close to 3. She was adopted from the shelter at 6 wks old and had to be returned there for the spay btwn 8-12 wks. She came through with flying colors. The only problem I had was trying to keep her still so she wouldn't rip her stitches. It did not make her mean. She loves everyone, especially kids. She is my "velcro dog" and doesn't like being more than a few feet from her mommy. We adopted Schatzie from the shelter on a saturday and they did her spay on a Monday and allowed us to pick her up then. I can't say if she changed any since I didn't know her before. But she is one of the most loving dogs and will lick you to death. Both her and Laney play, play, play, play. Neither are at all fat, in fact we have to watch Laney and makes sure she keeps weight on her. I have also fostered several dogs and all were done before 6mnths old and all bounced back. In fact Schatzie had the hardest time and she was a year old. Heres a good link on the reasons why its good to spay http://www.doghause.com/spay.asp |
