First time owning a yorkie I just got a 6 month old yorkie ...he needs a bath but I am afraid to scare him...should I let him get use to his soroundings first or would it be ok to bath him now? I dont wnt to frieghten him anymore than he already is...but he does stink. |
I would wait a week and let him get used to your house a little bit |
I agree, give him time to adjust first. Have fun. |
Thank you for your replies :) That was what I was thinking but I know my hubby is going to wonder why I havent bathed him yet... I have taken a wash cloth to his face though. ;) And I have picked out a name ...Bandit. |
Aw thats a cute name. I bet he is a sweetie |
If he stinks I would have to give him a quick bath. You could put him in the tub and give a quick shampoo and rinse. Then wrap him in a couple of warm-out of the dryer- towels and hold him. But if he seems too very scared maybe it would be best to wait. When I got Hannah she did smell bad and I saw a flea-I was very upset. I bathed her and she didn't like it and she was scared but when I wrapped her in those warm towels she calmed right down and went to sleep. Good luck. |

Thanks Genie....my bandit looks just like your Hannah. I think I will try bath & warm towel method tomorrow. He is starting to come around & venture out of his cage & even laid in the floor next to me but he is still iffy about letting me touch him. |
I find it unusual that your breeders didn't bathe your kids before you took them home. When mine are being picked up I make sure the come with ample time for me to give their new owners a grooming lesson. They have their bath, ears cleaned, nails clipped, etc...we go over the whole process. We usually spend a couple of hours together, going over grooming, feeding, shots, vet checks. |
My breeder asked me to not bathe Calliope for a week just so she could still smell her litter, Mama and Daddy on her. I thought it was a great idea but she didn't stink either so it wasn't a big deal. Guess it all depends on how bad the smell is and how comfortable Bandit is feeling. :) Can't wait to see pics of the little guy! :) |
