also ... but if I did not get asked to leave ... what harm can I do in Target???
It isn't the idea of what harm you can do, but that if someone can't bring in their big dog, than you shouldn't either, no matter what excuse ("My dog is cleaner than most kids," "He sleeps," etc.) you (and you meaning anyone.. not specifically you) have for doing so. :) |

I do respect stores that have stated rules, however, I think there should be some discrimination to a point. There is everywhere else so why not with dogs too. If kids are over a certain sight they aren't allowed to play at a restaurants playground, if you're too tall you cant go on certain roller coasters, if you're too heavy they won't let you fly on certain airlines etc. Certainly a small dog enclosed in a carrier is different than a great dane or a boxer or a lab. To say that all dogs are the same and all rules should be the same is a joke in my opinion. If I owned a store I might not let big dogs in but if your dog is well kept and is small enuogh for you to keep it contained, then I say, what harm can it do? |
I'm going to take Izzie to the mall today in her carrier. I just need to run in for one quick item. I live in a small town, so I really doubt anyone will say anything. Plus, I need to get her used to her carrier since we'll be flying to CA in April. :D We'll see how it goes... |
I so get the allergies thing. Not fun. But getting sick off of dogs is something completely alien to me xD I get sick more often from peoples' kids. My mom drives a school bus and is -constantly- bringing home some new and exciting ailment xD I'd rather be around dogs than most people's kids. Omg. Especially in stores. I don't have kids...so I don't know. Do kids -always- scream when they're in a store? xD I mean, you walk into toys r us and there are fussy, yelly kids all over (when it's busy anyway). Petsmarts are quieter *gets the giggles* Omigosh though. I hadn't thought about wrapping a dog up in a blankie to carry it. That's a good idea. |
I have one of those pocket book looking carriers, and I put my keys and wallet in them, and nobody ever notices him, because they think it's a pocket bag. Fool them every time. |
I think my yorkie acts better than some of the kids I've seen in the stores...LOL we have a Christmas Tree Shop here and they allow dogs in there. |
Rules are rules is all i'm saying. I do not know what harm could be done because i'm no expert, i do know that there are rules that state no pets allowed, meaning NO PETS, in carrier, on leash, in arms, on top of head whatever. and as of now there are no exceptions in most stores like what type of pet and how you are carrying it. |

Mission Accomplished! :) Not to hijack this thread or anything... Izzie and I went to the mall... We went to 3 different retail stores and passed 3 different security guards. No one said a thing to us! :) I had her in this green tweed bag that I bought at Petco for $15. It's not super cute or anything, but obviously it did it's job. :) |
This sort of brings back memories of when my daughter was a baby.....and stores turned me away with her stroller.....I never went back to any store that turned me away......I can understand food stores not allowing it....(maybe)....I'd smuggle Brandi in a carrier if I thought I could get away with it...... |

Just as a side note, I'm an manicurist and as much as I wanted to bring Pip in with me when she was just a baby, I couldn't take the risk because if the inspector had walked in I'd have been fined at least $500 for that. Dr.s and Dentists have pretty much the same kind of rules, so they'd be paying the fine if they got caught with the dog on the premises. I've dropped in the salon with her on my days off, tho, and that way I'm just a 'customer', and I stay right inside the door with her. I've got a carrying bag my mom got for me in a garage sale, I think it cost her a $1.00, (thanks Mom!). We took Pip in several stores and no one was the wiser. |

but truthfully, I got busted at Home Depot ... really!!! and they have NO signs .... |
I checked the signs at the mall before Izzie and I walked in. There was one stating "No Smoking" and another one saying that teenagers could only be in groups of 4 or less.... I wouldn't have had a problem if anyone had asked me to leave. :) I was just doing a test run of having Izzie in a carrier. |
